  • A number of concrete columns were blasted using TNT to study the propagation characteristics of ground vibration caused by different loading conditions in the blast hole of the columns. For each loading condition, peak particle velocity measured on the ground was analyzed. The regression analysis revealed that the use of square blast hole results in smaller vibration magnitude and faster decaying time than the case with circular blast hole. The analysis also showed that the blasting in the closed hole leads to larger vibration magnitude than the blasting in the hole penetrating the column, whereas the difference in vibration decaying time is negligible.

  • To investigate the effects of powder shape on U loading density of fuel meat, two kinds of fuel meats were prepared with atomized and comminuted U$_3$Si$_2$ powders by extrusion or rolling process. Extruded fuel meats with atomized spherical U$_3$Si$_2$ powder appeared to have much less porosity than those with comminuted irregular U$_3$Si$_2$ powder at higher U$_3$Si$_2$ fraction- The U$_3$Si$_2$ particles with spherical shape are less fractured in extrusion than in rolling. Most of atomized particles on the whole maintained to have spherical shapes in the extrusion. It has been shown that atomized spherical particles are expected to approach similar upper loading limits comparing with comminuted particles in rolled plates, but exceed comminuted powder loading limits in extruded rods.

  • In situ clay soils with Ko condition have anisotropic characteristics, varying the response according to the principal stress direction upon loading. But because of their practicality and simplicity, consolidated isotropic undrained compression tests are commonly used in practice to determine the behavior of cohesive soils. In this study to investigate the anisotropic characteristics and the effects of consolidation stress states on the response of normally consolidated clay soils during shearing, triaxial compression and extension tests after consolidating the undisturbed clay soil samples, which are obtained as a block sample to normalized consolidation states under isotropic or Ko state, were carried out. As a result of tests, the anisotropy of the undrained strength was confirmed. Comparing the soil responses between isotropic and Ko consolidation, the undrained strength by isotropic consolidation is overestimated because of its higher mean consolidation pressure. And isotropic consolidation reduces the anisotropy of soil response and influences on the stress-strain behavior and pore pressure response because the animotropic soil structure is partially collapsed during isotropic consolidation process. Also, OCR in overconsolidated soils is decreased by isotropic consolidatiorL Friction angle in eztension is higher than that in compression, but regression analysis shows that friction angle with cohesion in extension is almost the same as that without cohesion in compresslon.

  • Subcritical crack growth in rock material can occur under monotonic and cyclic loading. Subcritical crack growth plays an important role in evaluating the long-term stability of structures in rocks. This paper presents the results of studies conducted to determine subcritical crack growth parameters under monotonic and cyclic loading in rock-like material. The constant stress rate method was employed for monotonic loading. The subcritical crack growth parameter of n under cyclic loading was determined by the relation between the rate of crack growth per cycle and stress intensity factor range. The specimens contained pre-existing flaws with 45 and 60 degrees of inclination angle and flaws spacing and continuity were varied to arrange crack growth in shear or tensile manner. The results show that the parameter of n is almost constant regardless of the applied load conditions such as monotonic and cyclic or shear and tension.

  • To evaluate the compaction - induced lateral earth pressure acting on retaining structures such as retaining walls, abutments, culverts, underground walls, etc., a new equation is developed using the newly proposed hysteretic model simulating soil's loading - unloading behavoir under Ko-condition. The lateral pressurds calculated by the new equation are found to agree well with those of field tests previously performed by other researchers.

  • An experimental study has been performed to investigate the correlation on compressor discharge temperature of capacity modulated system A/C in cooling mode. Indoor and outdoor temperatures, the cooling capacity, compressor discharge temperature and loading time are measured by the psychrometric calorimeter. The system is controlled by applying the scroll compressor operated by PWM valve and loading duty. With decreasing outdoor temperature, the cooling capacity increases. But, with decreasing indoor temperature, it decreases. According to the increase in outdoor temperature and loading duty, compressor discharge temperature increases. From these experimental data, the correlation on compressor discharge temperature is proposed. The correlation obtained from the present study is agreed with the experimental data within $3^{\circ}C$.

  • OFDM Systems for multi-user use adaptive modulation and ending (AMC) which is a method that selects suitable modulation order and code rate depending on channel state of each user. Using AMC, OFDM system can provide high quality and reliable communication. Base station using AMC scheme requires downlink channel information of each terminal to operate optimality. However, under practical system environment, it is unsuitable to transmit all channel information because uplink bandwidth of the system is limited. In this paper, we propose a flexible block-wise loading (FBL) algorithm combined with a novel CQI feedback scheme with reduced number of required bits to optimize the performance of AMC system. Proposed algorithm allocates sub-carrier groups dynamically to improve the sector throughput and outage probability performance.

  • The present investigation has been performed on the mixing behavior and microstructural development during fabrication of Fe micro-nano powder feedstock for a micro-powder injection molding process. The mixing experiment using a screw type blender system was conducted to measure the variations of torque and temperature during mixing of Fe powder-binder feedstock with progressive powder loading for various nano-powder compositions up to 25%. It was found that the torque and the temperature required in the mixing of feedstock increased proportionally with increasing cumulative powder loading. Such an increment was larger in the feedstock containing higher content of nano-powder at the same powder loading condition. However, the maximum value was obtained at the nano-powder composition of not 25% but 10%. It was owing to the 'roller bearing effect' of agglomerate type nano-powder acting as lubricant during mixing, consequently leading to the rearrangement of micro-nano powder in the feedstock. It is concluded that the improvement of packing density by rearrangement of nano-powders into interstices of micro-powders is responsible for the maximum powder loading of about 71 vol.% in the nano-powder composition of 25%.

  • This study evaluates the yield load and allowable bearing capacity of ground in compressive loading tests to confirm the effect of CPR foundation reinforcement. The average compressive strength of the injection materials was higher than the planned compressive strength. Standard penetration tests for each stratum showed that foundation reinforcement improved the average N values, thereby increasing the bearing capacity of the ground. Compressive loading tests on two CPR piles revealed that the total and net settlement due to the maximum load exceed that permissible for the CPR pile diameter. The yield load and allowable bearing capacity calculated by the settlement criterion and the load-settlement curves varied greatly with the method applied. Therefore, it seems to be necessary to determine the optimum value through comprehensive analysis after applying various yield load calculation methods.

  • In this paper, It is performing to the elastic and elasto-plastic large deformation series analysis using a numerical method for the initial deflection effect of the aluminum alloy rectangular plate in the elasto-plastic loading area patch loading size. It is assumed a boundary condition to be a simply supported condition and consider the initial deflection amplitude, aspect ratio. It examined the critical elastic buckling load and post-buckling behaviour of aluminium alloy A6082-T6 rectangular plate. It used a commercial program for the elastic and elasto-plastic deformation series analysis. If the initial deflection amplitude is smaller, the in-plane rigidity with increasing to load is reduced from the start and occurs significantly more increasing the amplitude. More higher the aspect ratio, the initial yield strength is gradually decreased, and the plate thickness thicker and occurs larger than the thin walled plate a reduction ratio of the initial yield strength of the patch loading size as 0.5.
