Purpose is to systematically examine the factors related to patient safety nursing of nursing university students in a convergent and complex aspect and to identify the effect size through meta-analysis. The research method used PRISMA(Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses). Medline, Embases, CINAHL, DBpia, Research Information Service System (Riss), and Korean Studies Information Service (Kiss) were used, while overseas databases were searched using MeSH terms and Emtrees. The search term was [(patient safety or patient harm or safety management) and (students, nursing)] or [(patient safety or patient harm or safety management) and (education, nursing, graduate)].The research found that nursing performance, knowledge, attitude, self-confidence, recognition, and cognition were found to be relevant factors in the order of confidence, attitude, recognition, and knowledge.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the knowledge on patient safety and performance confidence for the subject of health-related major students. Participants were 349 Health-related majors. Data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0. According to the study results, correct answer rate for patients' knowledge on safety was 65.7% in average. Average point of performance confidence was $7.11{\pm}1.74$. Considering in terms of question, patient identification was high, while effective communication was shown to be low. Patient identification, communication, surgery procedure, fall, patient's safety accident report as the lower domain for patients' knowledge on safety and performance confidence had a positive correlation, while knowledge and infection management, facility environment had a negative correlation for health-related major students, development of patients' safety education program is needed to enhance importance of patients' safety before clinical practice and to allow implementation of safe clinical practice.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate perception of patient safety culture, incident reporting, and safety care activities among clinical nurses and to identify factors associated with the safety care activities. Methods: Structured questionnaires were used to collect data from 155 nurses who were involved in direct patient-care. Results: Descriptive statistical anaylses revealed that the mean score of patient safety culture was $3.26{\pm}0.32$ and $4.19{\pm}0.41$ was for the safety care activities. In incident reporting, reporting intention ($3.56{\pm}0.68$), belief in improvement ($3.42{\pm}0.60$), worry about appraisal ($3.37{\pm}0.65$) and reporting knowledge ($3.36{\pm}0.72$) respectively. Correlational analyses showed that perceived patient safety culture (r=.36), reporting intention (r=.34), belief in improvement (r=.32), and the knowledge (r=.38) in incident reporting were positively correlated with safety care activities, while the worry about appraisal in incident reporting attitude was negatively correlated. The factors associated with safety care activities were incident reporting knowledge (${\beta}=.31$, p<.001), supervisor/managers' attitudes toward patient safety culture (${\beta}=.29$, p<.001), belief in improvement of incident reporting attitude (${\beta}=.16$, p=.041). Conclusion: These results suggest that to improve safety care activities among hospital nurses, it is necessary to educate nurses on incident reporting. Also, a system-level approach is needed to support leadership in patient safety and to provide positive feedback on incident reporting.
Purpose: This study was to investigate the relationships among patient safety culture, safety competence and safety nursing activity among nurses in anesthetic and recovery rooms, and to identify the factors contributing to safety nursing activity. Methods: A descriptive correlational study was conducted. Participants were 156 nurses from 13 hospitals. Data were collected from February 11 to March 15th, 2019, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation and multiple regression analysis with SPSS statistics 24.0 Program. Results: Safety nursing activity was significantly different in relation to nurses' level of education, position at work, clinical career, clinical career at anesthetic and recovery rooms, and work experience in patient safety. Safety nursing activity demonstrated a significant positive correlation with patient safety culture and patient safety competence. Factors contributing to safety nursing activity were patient safety knowledge, skill and attitude, clinical career, clinical career at anesthetic and recovery rooms, and the patient safety improvement system which explained 57.0% of total variance of safety nursing activity. Conclusion: To improve safety nursing activities at anesthetic and recovery rooms, it is necessary to develop patient safety programs with enhanced knowledge, skill and attitude to take patient safety as a top priority.
This study was conducted to find out factors affecting patient safety management activities at nursing devisions of two university hospitals. The indicators of patient safety activities used in the study were selected from Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture which was developed by The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality in the United States. Data were collected from 372 nurses working at inpatient wards at two university hospitals located in Seoul and Won-Ju cities through the self-administered questionnaires, and analyzed using frequency analysis, t-test, correlation, and regression analysis. The result of this study were as follows. First, The mean of patient safety management activities was 3.41 which was a little bit higher than the average level. The mean of communication within the ward was the highest, whereas that of patient safety management culture was the lowest. Second, there were significant differences in the perception of nurses on patient safety management activities in terms of the educational background, length of employment, and work hours per week. Third, three variables of communication within the unit, attitude of top management, and attitude of nurses have significant positive effects on patient safety management activities. Fourth, 37.4% of the variation in the patient safety management activities was explained by the study variables. In conclusion, hospital administration and nursing managers should make an effort to learn the knowledge of patient safety program, show their deep interest on the patient safety to the employees and motivate them to communicate effectively each other within the work unit to develop a good patient safety culture and system.

The aim of this study was to identify how information media about patient safety incidents influences nursing students' knowledge, perception, and confidence in performance toward patient safety. A total of 337 nursing students agreed to participate in this study. Data were collected from the participants between June 4 and June 12, 2018. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient with SPSS 21.0. Participants' scores for knowledge, perception, and performance confidence toward patient safety were $6.43{\pm}1.92$, $41.02{\pm}4.35$, and $39.61{\pm}5.89$, respectively. Patient safety knowledge was significantly different according to age, grade, and patient safety education experience. Patient safety perception was significantly different according to satisfaction with the major, patient safety performance confidence showed statistically significant differences according to grade, patient safety education experience, and major satisfaction. Information media exposure to patient safety incidents on TV and knowledge (r=.32, p<.000) and performance confidence (r=.21, p<.000) toward patient safety had positive correlations. Information media exposure to patient safety incidents on the internet and knowledge (r=.34, p<.000), perception (r=.12, p=.028), and performance confidence (r=.24, p<.000) toward patient safety also had positive correlations. This study provides basic data for nursing education and program development for patient safety management.
Purpose: This study aimed to identify the factors influencing competency for Multi-Drug Resistant Organisms (MDRO) infection control in nursing students with clinical practice experience. Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted from May 2020 to August 2020 by including 175 nursing students in two nursing schools located in Daegu. The data were collected using self-report questionnaires. The data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 25.0 program with descriptive statistics, independent t-test, ANOVA, correlation, and multiple regression. Results: The competency of MDRO infection control was 3.41.±0.38. The attitude to patient safety management and - knowledge of MDRO infection control were 3.81±0.47 and 16.98±3.02, respectively. Factors influencing the competency of MDRO infection control were perceived benefit(β=.38, p<.001), knowledge toward MDRO infection control(β=.21, p=.001), attitude in patient safety management(β=.17, p=.028), and perceived barrier(β=-.15, p=.029) with an explanatory power of 34.2%. Conclusion: A systemic education program regarding MDRO infection control is needed for nursing students to provide knowledge related to MDRO infection control and help establish positive beliefs toward MDRO infection control and attitudes in patient safety management.

This study investigated knowledge and attitudes of long-term care hospital nursing assistants such as nursing aides and direct care workers toward patient safety and their safety care activities. This was a descriptive study that attempted to enhance the competence of nursing assistants' patient safety management, and the data were used to develop a training program for nursing assistants. A total of 230 nursing assistants working at six hospitals whose wards were over 200 participated and were assessed with a rating 1 or 2 in 2013 in B city. Data were collected using questionnaires from March 2 to March 26 in 2017. The collected data were analyzed by the SPSS/WIN 20.0 program using number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test, correlation coefficient, and multiple regression. In conclusion, the findings show that patient safety care activities were better performed by nursing aides than direct care workers. Higher education and a higher number of patient safety training programs and patient safety care activities were frequent. In addition, nursing assistants' knowledge of patient safety affected attitudes toward patient safety, and attitudes affected patient safety care activities. Therefore, an actual regular training program for patient safety should be executed over five times a year to improve patient safety perception. Furthermore, a hospital system including adequate working time needs to be improved. Based on the results of the study, patient safety in long-term care hospitals should be improved, and this study could be utilized as basic data to develop a training course for improvement of knowledge and attitudes of nursing assistants toward patient safety.
The purposed of this study was to identify the factors that affect Confidence in Performance Patient Safety Management targeted nursing students. The study subjects were 228 nursing students. The nursing students experienced patientl safety accidents in the fall (50.0%), needle puncture (18.5%), Patient identification error (12.0%), injection medication error (7.5%) and oral medication errors (4.3%). In the logistic regression analysis, Attitude of Patient Safety Management(t=6.09, p<.001), Clinical Decision Making(t=3.97, p<.001) and gender(t=2.56, p=.011) were significant factors related to Confidence of Performance Patient Safety Management. Based on the results of this study, we propose to develop a convergence education program that considers patient safety management attitude, clinical decision making ability, and gender in order to improve confidence of performance patient safety management of nursing students.
Purpose : This descriptive survey investigated the effects of clinical nurses' critical reflection competency, professional pride, and person-centered care practices on patient safety management activities. Methods : The participants were 183 clinical nurses working at a tertiary hospital in South Korea. The questionnaires consisted of the Critical Reflection Competency Scale for Clinical Nurses Professional Pride the Person-Centered Nursing Assessment Tool and Patient Safety Management Activities. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, Tukey's HSD, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression using SPSS 29.0. Results : The mean score for patient safety management activities was 4.65±0.34 out of 5. There were significant differences in patient safety management activities according to age (F=3.90, p =.010), education level (t=-2.56, p =.013), total work experience (F=3.87, p =.010), and the number of healthcare accreditation system experiences (F=5.22, p =.006). Patient safety management activities were positively correlated with critical reflection competency (r=.337, p <.001), professional pride (r=.271, p <.001), and person-centered care practices (r=.399, p <.001). The results indicated that person-centered care practices affected patient safety management activities (𝛽=.358, p <.001) with the explanatory power of 22.5%. Conclusion : To improve clinical nurses' patient safety management activities, it is necessary to develop participatory educational programs that can integrate skills and attitudes based on conceptual knowledge of person-centered care. Intervention studies are needed to test the effect of person-centered care on patient safety when applied in clinical practice.
