  • This paper describes a research work of developing a computer-aided design of blanking and piercing for stator and rotor parts. Based on knowledge-based rules, the die design system, STRTDES2, is designed by considering several factors, such as complexities of blank geometry and punch profile, and availability of press equipment and standard parts. Therefore this system can carry out a die design for each process which is obtained from the result of an automated process planning system, STRTDES1 and generate part drawing and the assembly drawing of die set in graphic forms. Knowledges for die layout are extracted from plasticity theories, relevant references and empirical know-hows of experts in blanking industries.

  • The purpose of this study is to establish a CAD (Computer Aided Design) system for research and development(R&D) of a new product. In the R&D process of a new product, the design objects are frequently redesigned based on the experimental results obtained with prototypes. The CAD/CAE systems (which is based on computer simulation of physical phenomena) are effective in reducing the number of useless prototypes of a new product. These kinds of conventional CAD/CAE systems do not provide a function to reflect the experimental results to the redesign process, however. This paper proposes a methodology to establish the CAD system, which possesses the engineering model of a designed object in the model database, and refines the model on the basis of experimental results of prototype. The blackboard inference model has been applied to infer model refinement and redesign counterplan by using insufficient knowledge of R&D process of new products.

  • A successful, computer-aided design support system can help a process designer focus on making effective design decisions, not merely tedious routine calculations. Such a system is essential to enhance quality of design in terms of economics, environmental benignity, reliability, robustness, and operability. Such a statement is even more accepted when applied to conceptual design problems, where gross design specifications are given while a combinatorial number of design alternatives exists. This paper presents an agent-based approach as a systematic and efficient way to design a design support system for the synthesis of conceptual chemical processes. An agent-based approach allows us to handle design knowledge as an object and thus greatly improve the modularity and reusability of that knowledge. Such modularity and reusability lead to the increased productivity in the development of a design support system and the increased ease in the relaxation of design decisions and the generation of design alternatives, both of which functions are critically important in dealing with the complexity and uncertainty of conceptual design problems.

  • Since, human error is a major factor contributing to disaster during start-up of operation in Boiler plant. it is necessary to develop an automation system which prevent mode of operation that are known to be dangerous and to bring a loss of energy. The aim of this study is to suggest a model for the computer-aided synthesis of operation sequence as a part of automation system for start-up operation. Synthesis is accomplished by the formation of a hierarchical network of goals which decide sequence of operations. Hierarchical Network is formed by using method which upper goals ( i.e. upper operation al situation) are classified by the function of themselves into lower goals (i.e. lower operational situation). Knowledge for deciding operation sequence is generated by putting In order the knowledge of hazard operation and energy management.

  • Computer aided process planning(CAPP) is a key for implementing CIM. It is bridge between CAD and CAM and translates the design information into manufacturing instructions. Generally, manufacturing is an area where intelligent systems will not be able to rely on methods requiring formalized knowledge. Manufacturing lacks a body of knowledge that is specific, formalized, and rigorous, and which can be coded as rules or procedures. Thus expertise in manufacturing is developed over a period of many years. Case-based reasoning(CBR) offers a new approach for developing intelligent system. In the case-based approach the problem solving experience of the experts is encoded in the form of cases. CBR's retrieval process can be divided to two step. The first step is matching step, and the second step is selection step. For selecting base case, new preference heuristics were introduced using similarity concept. Similarity concept has three has three dimensions, i.e. entity similarity, structural similarity, and goal similarity. In this paper, bolt's process planning was selected an application domain. Following the test result, the new preference heuristics were approved as a useful procedure in CAPP.

  • The application of modern ecological, ultrastructural and molecular methods, aided by the cultivation of numerous cyanobacterial morphotypes, has substantially changed our knowledge of these organisms. It has led to major advances in cyanobacterial taxonomy and criteria for their phylogenetic classification. Molecular data provide basic criteria for cyanobacterial taxonomy; however, a correct phylogenetic system cannot be constructed without combining genetic data with knowledge from the previous 150 years research of cyanobacterial diversity. Thus, studies of morphological variation in nature, and modern morphological, ultrastructural, ecophysiological and biochemical characters need to be combined in a “polyphasic” approach. Taxonomic concepts for generic and infrageneric ranks are re-evaluated in light of combined phenotypic and molecular criteria. Despite their usefulness in experimental studies, the limitations of using strains from culture collections for systematic and nomenclatural purposes is highlighted. The need for a continual revision of strain identification and proper nomenclatural practice associated with either the bacteriological or botanical codes is emphasized. Recent advances in taxonomy are highlighted in the context of prospects for understanding cyanobacterial diversity from natural habitats, and the evolutionary and adaptational processes that cyanobacteria undergo.

  • This paper describes some research works of computer-aided design of blanking and piercing progressive die for stator and rotor parts. An approach to the system is based on knowledge based rules. The deveolped system is composed of six modules such as main program, input and shape treatment, production feasibility check, strip layout, die layout and drawing edit module. Using this system, design parameters ( geometric shapes, die and punch dimensions and dimensions of tool elements) are determined and output is gen- erated in graphic from. Knowledges for tool design are extracted from the plasticity theories, handbooks, relevant references and empirical know-hows of experts in blkanking companies. The developed system provides powerful capabilities for process planning and die design of stator and rotor parts.

An approach to the system is based on knowledge based system. The system has been written in AutoLisp with personal computer. Knowledges for process planning & die design are extracted from the plasticity theories, handbooks, relevent references and empirical know-how of field experts in hot forging companies. The developed system is composed of five main modules, such as input module, process planning module, die design module, flow simulation module and output module which are used independently or in all. The final output is generated in graphic from. The developed system which aids designer provides powerful capabilities for process planning and die design of hot forging.
