An acoustic finite element model of a bridge is developed to evaluate the noise generated by the traffic-induced vibration of the bridge. The dynamic response of a multi-girder bridge, modeled by a 3-dimensional frame element model, is analyzed with a 3-axle 8 DOFs truck model and a 5-axle 13 DOFs semi-trailer. The flat plate element is used to analyze the acoustic pressure due to the fluid-structure interactions between the vibrating surface and contiguous acoustic fluid medium. The radiation fields of noise with a specified distribution of vibrating velocity and pressure on the structural surface are also computed using the Kirchhoff-Helmholtz integral. Although the noise produced by the bridge vibration is not serious in itself, which is below the audible frequency range, it should be considered as an interaction problem between vehicle noise and bridge vibration noise in order to evaluate the traffic noise around the bridge.
An acoustic finite element model of a bridge is developed to evaluate the noise generated by the traffic-induced vibration of the bridge. The dynamic response of a multi-girder bridge, modeled by a 3-dimensional frame element model, is analyzed with a 3-axle(8DOF) truck model and a 5-axle(l3DOF) semi-trailer. In an attempt to illustrate the influence of the structural vibration noise of a bridge to total noise level around the bridge, the random function is used to generate the vehicle noise source including the engine noise and the rolling noise interacting between the road and tire. Among the diverse parameters affecting the dynamic response of bridge, the vehicle velocity, the vehicle weight, the spatial distribution of the road surface roughness, the stiffness degradation of the bridge and the variation of the air temperature changing the air density are found to be the main factors that increase the level of vibration noise. Consequently, The amplification rate of noise increases with the traveling speed and the vehicle weight.
In this paper, the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) (Mindlin) for continuum incorporating surface energy is exploited to study the static behavior of ultra-thin functionally graded (FG) plates. The size-dependent mechanical response is very important while the plate thickness reduces to micro/nano scales. Bulk stresses on the surfaces are required to satisfy the surface balance conditions involving surface stresses. Unlike the classical continuum plate models, the bulk transverse normal stress is preserved here. By incorporating the surface energies into the principle of minimum potential energy, a series of continuum governing differential equations which include intrinsic length scales are derived. The modifications over the classical continuum stiffness are also obtained. To illustrate the application of the theory, simply supported micro/nano scaled rectangular films subjected to a transverse mechanical load are investigated. Numerical examples are presented to present the effects of surface energies on the behavior of functionally graded (FG) film, whose effective elastic moduli of its bulk material are represented by the simple power law. The proposed model is then used for a comparison between the continuum analysis of FG ultra-thin plates with and without incorporating surface effects. Also, the transverse shear strain effect is studied by a comparison between the FG plate behavior based on Kirchhoff and Mindlin assumptions. In our analysis the residual surface tension under unstrained conditions and the surface Lame constants are expected to be the same for the upper and lower surfaces of the FG plate. The proposed model is verified by previous work.
Free vibration analysis of thin shells is carried out by using isogeometric approach. For this purpose, a thin shell element based on Kirchhoff-Love shell theory is developed. Non-uniform rational B-spline surface (NURBS) definition is introduced to represent the geometry of shell and also used to derive all terms required in the isogeometric element formulation. Gauss integration rule is used for stiffness and mass matrices. The present shell element is then applied to examine vibrational behaviours of thin plate and shell structures. From numerical results, it is found be that reliable natural frequencies and associated mode shapes of thin shell structures can be predicted by the present isogeometric shell element.
For many different types of apertures the diffraction phenomenon on the electromagnetic wave is analyzed by unsing Kirchhoff and Fresnel's diffraction theory. The signal intensity in variation of aperture's parameters is numerically calculated by a computer. To obtain the experimental data many types of apertures were made on an acryl board on which a special materical Elecoat was painted for preventing some reflections on the board surface and transmissions through it. Two Yagi antennas were used for a transmitting and receiving antenna and the frequency was 820MHz. The theoretichal values agreed reasonably with experimental data and these results will be used for a system design in the mobile communication between many buildings in the middle of a city.
This presentation examines the characteristics of torsional vibration in axisymmetric out-of-plane vibrations of an annular Mindin plate. The out-of-plane vibration of circular or annular plates have been investigated since a long years ago by many researchers. When the classical Kirchhoff plate theory neglecting the effect of transverse shear deformation is applied to a thick plate, its out-of-plane natural frequencies are much different from reality. And so, since Minlin presented a plate theory considering the effect of rotary inertia and transverse shear deformation, many researches for the out-of-plane natural vibration of circular or annular Mindin plates have been performed. But almost all researchers missed the torsional vibration due to transverse shear deformation in axisymmetric out-of-plane vibrations of the circular or annular Mindin plate. Therefore, in this presentation, we verify the existence of torsional vibration of an annular plate and present the natural frequencies of an annular plate with free outer boundary surface.
The 2-dimensional unsteady flows on and around the cambered airfoils were computed by applying LES with the deductive dynamic SGS model. The unsteady flow field were used as inputs to compute the far-field sounds and directivity patterns from rotating blades by a hybrid approach that exploits Farassat's formula. The BEM (Boundary Element Method) was applied to predict the frequency characteristics from the rotating blades for the cases of even- and uneven-pitched fans. The BEM results suggested that the unevenly pitched fan have less pronounced discrete peaks at BEF frequencies, which was confirmed by the experiment.
A new analytical buckling solution of a thermo-electro-magneto-elastic (TEME) cylindrical nano-shell made of BiTiO3-CoFe2O4 materials is obtained based on Hamiltonian approach. The Winkler and Pasternak elastic foundations as well as thermo-electro-magneto-mechanical loadings are applied, and two different types of edge conditions are taken into the investigation. According to nonlocal strain gradient theory (NSGT) and surface elasticity theory in conjunction with the Kirchhoff-Love theory, governing equations of the nano-shell are acquired, and the buckling bifurcation condition is obtained by adopting the Navier's method. The detailed parameter study is conducted to investigate the effects of axial and circumferential wave numbers, scale parameters, elastic foundations, edge conditions and thermo-electro-magnetic loadings on the buckling behavior of the nano-shell. The proposed model can be applied in design and analysis of TEME nano components with multi-field coupled behavior, multiple edge conditions and scale effect.
This paper deals with the temperature calculation using equivalent thermal network for surface mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor(SPMSM) under the steady-state condition. In the equivalent thermal network, heat sources are generated from copper loss and iron loss. Heat transfer consists of conduction, convection and radiation. However, radiation is neglected in this paper because its effect is much smaller than others. Although the heat transfer coefficient in conduction use material property, heat transfer coefficient in convection is difficult to measure due to the atmosphere and ambient condition. Temperatures of each region in SPMSM are measured by thermocouple in operating condition and the thermal resistances of convection are calculated by kirchhoff's current law(KCL) and experimental result. In order to verify the validation and reliability of the proposed equivalent thermal network, temperature which is calculated other load condition is compared with experimental results. Accordingly, temperatures of each region in other SPMSMs will be easily predicted by the proposed equivalent thermal network.
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the flexible structure of parabolic shell using photostrictive actuators. The analysis is made to know its dynamic behavior and light-induced control forces for coupled parabolic shell. The effects of an actuator location as well as membrane and bending components under the control action have been analyzed considering the approximate spherical model. The parabolic membrane shell accuracy is being mathematically approximated and validated comparing the light induced control forces using approximate equivalent spherical shell model. The parabolic shell with kapton smart material and photostrictive actuators has been used to formulate the governing equation in the transverse direction. The Kirchhoff-Love assumptions are used to obtain the governing equation of shell with actuator. The mechanical membrane forces and bending moments for parabolic thin shell with actuator is used to analyze the dynamic effect. The results show that membrane control action is much more significant than bending control action. Photostrictive actuators oriented along circumferential direction (actuator-2) can give better control effect than actuators placed along longitudinal direction (actuator-1). The slight difference is observed between spherical and parabolic shell for a surface with focal length to the diameter ratio of 1.00 or more than unity. Space applications often have the shape of parabolical shells or shell of revolution, due to their required focusing, aiming, or reflecting performance. The present approach is focused that photostrictive actuators can effectively control the vibration of parabolical membrane shell. Also, the actuator's location plays an important role in defining the control force.
