  • The purpose of this study is to compare the difference between quadriceps strength and endurance on the degree of elasticity of convergent kinesio taping. Twenty-eight normal adults who voluntarily participated in this study were randomly assigned among 4 groups, that is, group without tape, group with tape elasticity of 0 %, group with tape elasticity of 25 %, or group with tape elasticity of 50 %. Quadriceps strength and endurance were measured using CSMI. Strength among the groups was significantly different (p<.001), and the greater the elasticity of the tape, the greater the muscle strength. However, endurance was't significantly different among the groups (p>.05). These findings suggest that convergent kinesio taping elasticity with 25% and 50% is effective for quadriceps strength in physical activity.

  • This study was conducted to investigate changes in posture and muscle characteristics by applying mat pilates and kinesio taping to college students with round shoulder posture and to investigate effective interventions. Subjects were 28 men and women with a round shoulder posture, and they were randomly assigned to a mat pilates group (MPG, n=14) and a Kinesio taping group (KTG, n=14). Each group performed the intervention for 4 weeks, and the distance from the ground to the acromion(DGA) and muscle characteristics (F: Frequency; S: Stiffness; D: Decrement) were measured before and after the intervention. Independent T-test was performed for the difference in the amount of change between groups, and the paired-sample T-test was performed for the difference between pre-post values within the group. Statistical significance level was set as 𝛼=.05. As a result of measuring the change in DGA in both groups, it was significantly decreased in MPG (p<.05). As a result of measuring the change in muscle characteristics of the two groups, the change in F in TL was significantly increased in MPG (p<.05), there was no change in TG, and the amount of change in MPG was larger in the amount of change between the two groups. appeared (p<.05). The change in S was significantly increased in MPG (p<.05). Therefore, the mat pilates conducted in this study is considered to be an effective intervention for improving the round shoulder posture and changing the muscle characteristics than kinesio taping.

  • PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of physical therapy plus Kinesio taping (KT) on muscle tone and stiffness in patients with shoulder pain. METHODS: This study included 22 participants who were divided into the experimental group (n=11) who underwent a routine physical therapy with KT and the control group (n=11) who received the same physical therapy only. The physical therapy consisted of heat application and electrical stimulation. Heat was applied for 10 minutes and electrical stimulation was conducted for 20 minutes. Intervention was provided over a 1-week period, and frequency for muscle tone and stiffness was measured to determine changes in shoulder muscle status. The muscles were supraspinatus and deltoid. Measurements were taken before, after 1day, 3day and after 1 week to identify time-dependent effects of intervention. RESULTS: The effects of the intervention were significant in both groups, and effects were greater in the experimental group. Changes in muscle tone and stiffness were statistically significant in both groups and at varying time points (p<.05). CONCLUSION: Based on the improved muscle performance found in this study, KT is considered an effective intervention strategy for patients with shoulder pain when it is combined with conventional physical therapy.

  • Background: Recently, a new method of dysphagia rehabilitation using Kinesio taping (KT) has been attempted and demonstrated an immediate increase in the activation of the suprahyoid muscle during swallowing in healthy adults. Objectives: To investigate the effect of dysphagia rehabilitation using KT on the thickness change of the suprahyoid muscle in patients with dysphagia after stroke. Design: Two-group pre-post design. Methods: In this study, 20 patients with dysphagia after stroke were enrolled and assigned to the experimental and control groups. The experimental group applied KT to the front of the neck and repeatedly swallowed against the tension of the tape. On the other hand, the control group performed repeated swallowing without applying KT. Patients in both groups had swallowed 50 times a day/5 times a week for 4 weeks. For evaluation, the volume of the geniohyoid, mylohyoid, and digastric muscle was measured before and after the intervention using portable ultrasound equipment. Results: As a result of comparing the two groups after the intervention, the experimental group showed more volume increase in mylohyoid (P<.05) and digastric muscle (P<.05) than the control group. Conclusion: This study proved that suprahyoid muscle resistance exercise using KT is effective in increasing the volume of the suprahyoid muscle.
