  • The psychophysical experiments were carried out by a panel of eleven observers on the image difference pairs displayed on the LCD (liquid crystal display)to quantify the quality changes of complex images imparted by the typical image processing operations. There were six different kinds of pairs according to their original image. The three types of visual tests performed were: pair-to-pair comparison of image differences for ordering the differences between images introduced by single or combination of image lightness change, contrast change, blurring, and sharpening, perceptibility and acceptability tests using ascending or descending series of image difference pairs ordered according to the size of their visual differences. • In order to develop a pot lid that would not overflow, three parts were created, each different in size. One cover (A") had a small hole (dia. 10 cm) for the vapor to escape (dia. about 2.5 mm). Another, cover A' had a medium-sized hole (dia. about 5 cm) for the vapor to escape. Cover A (dia. 300 mm, $120\;mm^H$) had a large hole (dia. 100 mm) for the vapor to escape. Because the new cover was partially open while soy paste solution cooking, it showed that it could not only prevent overflow, but also extend the burning approaching and salinity increase time, reducing both cooking time and the amount of energy necessary to cook.

  • Recently the wind turbine generating systems are increasing world widely. This type of systems will change the nation's energy environment which largely depends on the fossil fuels. It will also bring new problems to the power industry and the customers. The expected problem is the voltage and frequency stability of the power distribution network, when a wind turbine generating system is connected to the line. It becomes necessary and important to evaluate their impact on the electrical network stability. This paper shows the electrical data measurement and analysis of a inductive wind turbine generator affecting the power quality problem of the distribution line.

  • We are concerned with the question of servicing warranties for repairable items. During the warranty period, each time an item fails the manufacturer has the obligation to restore the item to operational condition either by repairing the item or by replacing it by a new item. In this paper, we consider the repair-replacement strategies based on the condition of the failed item. For products with phase-type lifetime distributions where the phases represent the condition of the item, we develop algorithms to determine the expected cost of servicing a warranty and use it in making the repair-replacement decision. Illustrative numerical examples are presented. We also propose a dynamic strategy by taking the expected remaining warranty cost into consideration.

  • This paper describes the assessment of seismic performance of the concrete gravity dam seismically reinforced by post-tensioned anchors. In order to evaluate the seismic performance, the response spectrum analyses have been carried out for 7 different configurations of the post-tensioned anchors, and then their performance improvement in the maximum tensile and compressive stresses is compared to each other. The comparative results demonstrate that the layout of the post-tensioned anchors strongly influences the seismic performance of the concrete gravity dam. In this study, the slightly-inclined vertical anchorage system shows the largest improvement on the overall performance of the seismically-excited concrete gravity dam.

  • The heavy duty diesel engine must have a large output for maintaining excellent mobility. The compacted graphite iron (CGI) is a material currently under study for the engine demanded for high torque, durability, stiffness and fatigue. In this study, three dimensional finite element model of a heavy-duty diesel engine was developed to conduct the stress analysis by using property of CGI. The FE model of the heavy duty diesel engine section consisting with four half cylinder was selected. The heavy duty diesel engine section include cylinder block, cylinder head, liner, bearing cap, bearing and bolt. The loading conditions of engine are pre-fit load, assembly force and gas force.
