In this study, a longitudinal joint connection was proposed for the short-span slab-type precast modular bridges with rapid construction. The slab-type modular bridge consists of a number of precast slab modules and has the joint connection between the modules in the longitudinal direction of the bridge. The finite element based parameter analysis and the push-out test were conducted to design the shape and the dimensions of the longitudinal joint connection. Number of shear keys within the joint, height and depth of the shear key, tooth angle, and the spacing were considered as the design parameters. Using the local cracking load obtained from the analytical and experimental results, an efficiency factor was proposed to evaluate the effectiveness of the longitudinal joint connection. The dimensions of shear key were determined by comparing the efficiency factors.

As the welding spot forms a singular geometry of an external crack type, fatigue failure of spot-welded specimens can be evaluated by means of a fracture parameter. Recasting the load vs. fatigue life relationships experimentally obtained, we predicted the fatigue life of spot-weld specimens with a single parameter denoted the equivalent stress intensity factor. This crack driving parameter is demonstrated to successfully describe the effects of specimen geometry and loading type in a comprehensive manner. The suggested fatigue life formula for a single spot weld can play a key role in the design and assessment of spot-welded panel structures, in that the fatigue strength of multi-spots is eventually determined by the fatigue strength of each single spot. We therefore attempt to evaluate the effectiveness and validity of $K_e$ in predicting the fatigue life of auto seat belt anchor panel. We first establish finite element models reflecting the actual mechanical behavior of 3 types of seat belt anchor specimens. Using finite element models elaborately established, we then obtain the effective crack driving parameter $K_e$ composed of its ductility -dependent modal components. It is confirmed that the $K_e$ concept successfully predicts the fatigue life of multi-spot welded panel structures represented by auto seat belt anchors here.

With the increase in the exploitation depth of offshore oil and gas, it is possible to control the global buckling of deep-sea pipelines by the snake lay method. Previous studies mainly focused on the analysis of critical buckling force and critical temperature of pipelines under the snake-like laying method, and pipelines often suffer structural failure due to seismic disasters during operation. Therefore, seismic action is a necessary factor in the design and analysis of submarine pipelines. In this paper, the seismic action of steel pipes in the operation stage after global buckling has occurred under the active control method is analyzed. Firstly, we have established a simplified finite element model for the entire process cycle and found that this modeling method is accurate and efficient, solving the problem of difficult convergence of seismic wave and soil coupling in previous solid analysis, and improving the efficiency of calculations. Secondly, through parameter analysis, it was found that under seismic action, the pipe diameter mainly affects the stress amplitude of the pipeline. When the pipe wall thickness increases from 0.05 m to 0.09 m, the critical buckling force increases by 150%, and the maximum axial stress decreases by 56%. In the pipe soil interaction, the greater the soil viscosity, the greater the pipe soil interaction force, the greater the soil constraint on the pipeline, and the safer the pipeline. Finally, the pipeline failure determination formula was obtained through dimensionless analysis and verified, and it was found that the formula was accurate.

Tensairity girder is a light weight inflatable fabric structural concept which can be used in road emergency transportation. It uses low pressure air to stabilize compression elements against buckling. With the purpose of obtaining the comprehensive target of minimum deflection and weight under ultimate load, the cross-section and the inner pressure of tensairity girder was optimized in this paper. The Variable Complexity Modeling (VCM) method was used in this paper combining the Kriging approximate method with the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) method, which was implemented by ABAQUS. In the Kriging method, the sample points of the surrogate model were outlined by Design of Experiment (DOE) technique based on Optimal Latin Hypercube. The optimization framework was constructed in iSIGHT with a global optimization method, Multi-Island Genetic Algorithm (MIGA), followed by a local optimization method, Sequential Quadratic Program (SQP). The result of the optimization gives a prominent conceptual design of the tensairity girder, which approves the solution architecture of VCM is feasible and efficient. Furthermore, a useful trend of sensitivity between optimization variables and responses was performed to guide future design. It was proved that the inner pressure is the key parameter to balance the maximum Von Mises stress and deflection on tensairity girder, and the parameters of cross section impact the mass of tensairity girder obviously.

Balance shaft has a key role in reducing a engine vibration in a vehicle and widely applied for current models. Since balance shaft module consists many sub-component and each part has its own operational characteristics, some different analysis backgrounds should be integrated into one sub-part in balance shaft module and this is the main obstacles in making a design process. Moreover, the balancing shaft is rotating in high speed and such condition requires large safety factors in a design process owing to a lot of unexpected problems with the overwhelming rotation. Balance shaft is the core-component generating the intended unbalance as well as cancelling the unbalance force or moment by the engine module. So, the balance shaft should meet the high fatigue resistance not to mention of NVH performance. In this paper, a design strategy focused on balance shaft is developed to build a optimal model considering a engine vibration. Putting the unbalance mass distribution as main design parameter, some candidate model is verifed with structural and fatigue analysis and most appropriate model is proposed here.

An Intake Port of SI engines plays a key role on improving engine performance by maximizing full load volumetric efficiency or by optimizing in-cylinder air motion. However, designing an intake port has been usually performed based on port experts' experience and know-how, which means that analytical analyses are relatively insufficient. In this paper, port design parameters which decide an overall port shape were defined in order to correlate them relevantly with flow test results accumulated so far. Test species were composed of all twenty eight SI engines which cover major engine displacements from 1,000cc to 4,000cc. First, they were tested on a steady state flow test rig to find out their flow coefficients. Secondly, those flow coefficients were analyzed based on the port design parameters measured from the engines. The most effective parameters were port height, valve head diameter, and the ratio of port size and cylinder bore diameter. The final correlation equation could predict flow coefficients within 2% deviation.
The study on the performance of the nonlinear friction tuned mass dampers (FTMD) for the mitigation of the seismic responses of the structures is a topic that still inspires the efforts of researchers. The present paper aims to carry out a numerical study on the optimum tuning of TMD and FTMD parameters using a multi-objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO) algorithm including soil-structure interaction (SSI) effects for seismic applications. Considering a 3-story structure, the performances of the optimized TMD and FTMD are compared with the uncontrolled structure for three types of soils and the fixed base state. The simulation results indicate that, unlike TMDs, optimum tuning of FTMD parameters for a large preselected mass ratio may not provide a best and optimum design. For low mass ratios, optimal selection of friction coefficient has an important key to enhance the performance of FTMDs. Consequently, a free parameter search of all FTMD parameters provides a better performance in comparison with considering a preselected mass ratio for FTMD in the optimum design stage of the FTMD. Furthermore, the SSI significant effects on the optimum design of the TMD and FTMD. The simulation results also show that the FTMD provides a better performance in reducing the maximum top floor displacement and acceleration of the building in different soil types. Moreover, the performance of the TMD and FTMD decrease with increasing soil softness, so that ignoring the SSI effects in the design process may give an incorrect and unrealistic estimation of their performance.
The CGA proposed by IETF working group prevents address spoofing and stealing and provides digital signature to users, but key collision problem arises. To solve this critical problem, the CGA defines the SEC field within address format, which is set to high value when high security is required and vice versa, but the CGA faces a dilemma between security and the processing time. As SEC value increases, the processing time to generate the CGA grows dramatically while key collision ratio increases if low SEC value is applied to the CGA. We propose modified CGA (MCGA) that has shorter processing time than the CGA and offers digital signature with small overheads. To solve key collision problem, we employ hierarchical ad hoc network. The MCGA is applicable to IPv6 networks as well public networks. In this paper, we design a mathematical model to analyze the processing time for MCGA and CGA first and evaluate the processing time via simulations, where the processing time for MCGA is reduced down 3.3 times when SEC value is set to 0 and 68,000 times when SEC value is set to 1. Further, we have proved that the CGA is inappropriate for both ad hoc networks and IPv6 networks when the SEC field is set to more than 3.

In this study, it was investigated about optical simulation in highg brightness and high uniformity direct-type backlight design for medical application. Direct-type backlight has been used high-brightness backlight such as Medical LCD application. The key parameter in designing direct-type backlight was consists of three geometrical dimension such as the distance of two lamps, the gap of lamp and reflection plate and the number of lamps. It has many of variations in optical design and it causes the different properties in backlight system. It shows the best values of above parameters; 26mm of the distance of two lamps, 4.5mm of the gap of lamp and reflection plate and 16 lamps. And we produced the specimen as above condition, and acquired good result in backlight such as the value of the brightness is 6423 nit in center of emission area and less than 5% in brightness uniformity. It shows the effective ways of designing backlight system using optical simulation method for medical LCD application.
