  • VO2 exhibits metal-insulator transition (MIT), of which critical temperature (TC) is about 340 K. There have been many reports that MIT can be induced by UV light as well as heat. Clear mechanism regarding such photo-induced MIT has not been clarified. We have compared the MIT behaviors of VO2 thin film during heating-cooling cycles with and without light. We tried several light sources with different wavelengths (red, blue, and UV). Tc and hysteresis width of the resistance change were influenced by the illumination of the samples. We performed Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) studies, which can reveal the evolution of the local sample work function. In this presentation, we will discuss possible physical origins for the photo-induced effects on the MIT behaviors of the VO2 samples.

  • Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) prepared by aromatic thiols on gold surfaces have much larger potential for electronic device applications due to their electronic properties. In this study, the formation and structures of SAMs prepared by benzenethiol (BT), toluenethiol (TT), 2-fluorobenzenethiol (2-FBT), 3-fluorobenzenethiol (3-FBT), 4-fluorobenzenethiol (4-FBT), 4-chlorobenzenethiol (4-CBT), 4-fluorobenzenemethanethiol (4-FBMT), and 4-chlorobenzenemethanethiol (4-CBMT) on Au(111) were examined using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and Kelvin probe (KP) to explore the structure and electronic interface properties of eight differently substituted aromatic thiol SAMs on Au(111). And these values are compared with gas phase dipole moments computed by quantum chemical calculations for individual thiol molecules. It was revealed that all eight thiol-molecules form uniform SAMs on Au(111) at $75^{\circ}C$ compared to lower solution temperature by STM observation. The work function change obtained in the KP measurements and calculated molecular dipole moments have the linear relationship while the 4-FBMT and 4-CBMT deviate from this tendency.

  • The present work explains the interfacial energetics of all oxide transparent photodiodes. The optical, structural and morphological of copper oxides were systematically analyse by UV-Visible spectrometer, X-Ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Atomic force microscopy measurements (AFM). The UV-Visible result exhibits optical bandgap of Cu2O and CuO as 2.2 and 2.05 eV respectively. SEM and AFM result shows a uniform grain size distribution in Cu2O and CuO thin films with the average grain size of 45 and 40 nm respectively. The results of Current-Voltage and Kelvin probe force microscope characteristics describe the electrical responses of the Cu2O/ZnO and CuO/ZnO heterojunctions photodiodes. The obtained electrical response depicts the approximately same knee voltages with a measurable difference in the absolute value of net terminal current. More over the present study realizes the all oxide transparent photodiode with zero bias photocurrent. The presented results lay the template for fabricating and analysing the self-bias all oxide transparent photodetector.

  • We report on a direct measurement of two-dimensional chemical and electrical distribution on the surface of photovoltaic Cu(In,Ga)$Se_2$ thin-films using a nano-scale spectroscopic and electrical characterization, respectively. The Raman measurement reveals non-uniformed surface phonon vibration which comes from different compositional distribution and defects in the nature of polycrystalline thin-films. On the other hand, potential analysis by scanning Kelvin probe force microscopy shows a higher surface potential or a small work function on grain boundaries of the thin-films than on the grain surfaces. This demonstrates the grain boundary is positively charged and local built-in potential exist on grain boundary, which improve electron-hole separation on grain boundary. Local electrical transport measurements with scanning probe microscopy on the thin-films indicates that as external bias is increases, local current is started to flow from grain boundary and saturated over 0.3 V external bias. This accounts for carrier behavior in the vicinity of grain boundary with regard to defect states. We suggest that electron-hole separation at the grain boundary as well as chemical and electrical distribution of polycrystalline Cu(In,Ga)$Se_2$ thin-films.

  • Although silver is used for T-OLED (Top emitting organic Light-Emitting Diode) as reflective anode, it is not an ideal material due to its low work function. Thus, we study the effect of annealing and atmospheric pressure plasma treatment on Ag film that increases its work function by forming the thin silver oxide layer on its surface. In this study, we deposited silver on glass substrate using RF sputtering. Then we treated the Ag samples annealing at $300^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes in atmosphere or treating the atmospheric plasma treatment for 30, 60, 90, 120s, respectively. We measured the change of the mechanical properties and the potential value of surface with each one at a different treatment type and time. We used nano-indenter system and KPFM (Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy). KPFM method can be measured the change of surface potential. The nanoindenter results showed that the plasma treatment samples for 30s, 120s had very low elastic modulus, hardness and Weibull modulus. However, annealed sample and plasma treated samples for 60s and 90s had better mechanical properties. Therefore, plasma treatment increases the uniformity thin film and the surface potential that is very effective for the performace of T-OLED.
