The glass-ceramics was prepared with the scoria(CaO-MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 system) of the locally occurring volcanic ejecta containing 10-13w/o of (FeO+Fe2O3) by melting at 140$0^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours and thermally treated for nucleation and crystallization. The sucrose was added to the scoria to adjust the Fe2+/Fe3+ ratio during the melting process. The addition of 1-2w/o of sucrose showed the glass-ceramics body with the finest particle developed and dispersed over the entire range. It is concluded that the impurity content of iron oxide and titanium oxide play the most-influencial effect on the crystallization. When 1-2w/o of sucrose was added to the scoria, the value of Fe2+/Fe3+ ratio was 0.93-1.32 and showed the best result of crystallization. The nucleation temperature and time were calculated by the measurements of exothermic peak temperatures of DTA for quenched and thermally treated glasses. The nucleation temperature of scoria glass without the addition of sucrose was estimated as 75$0^{\circ}C$, but the addition of sucrose by 2w/o showed the nucleation temperature 6$25^{\circ}C$. The nucleation time was calculated with the same DTA curves. The nucleation times estimated were about 150min. for both of glasses without and with sucrose added. Finally, the activation energies for crystallization were calculated with the DTA data. The calculated activation energies were 143 Kcal/mole for the glass without addition of sucrose and 90Kcal/mole, 87Kcal/mole, 85Kcal/mole and 71Kcal/mole for the glasses of 1w/o, 2w/o, 3w/o and 4w/o addition respectively.
The purpose of this study was to find out the information on nutrition labeling and how many calories and nutrients the high school students consumed for 1 day from cookies. A total of 74 male and female high school students in Suwon were surveyed and 56 cookies that they consumed were examined. Background data were collected by questionnaire, cookie intake by 24-hr recall, and the calories and nutrients content in cookies and the amount of intake by nutrition information on the wrapping paper of cookie. The statistical analysis for the data was done by SPSS 12.0. Energy contents in 1 serving size of cookie were $90{\sim}315\;kcal$, average of 170 kcal. The protein contents were $0{\sim}7\;g$, fat $2{\sim}20\;g$, cholesterol $0{\sim}55\;mg$, and sodium $30{\sim}390\;mg$ in 1 serving size of cookie. Most of the cookies(80%) examined contained no trans fat at all, which is desirable. Among the types of cookies, snacks contained higher quantities of calories and sodium, the pie contained more sugar and cholesterol, and the biscuit had more trans fat. One fourth of the cookies examined belonged to 'high calorie, low nutritious food' according to the criteria proposed by The Ministry for Health, Welfare and Family Affairs. Thus the excessive intake of cookies might result in nutritional imbalance. There were large differences in calorie intake among students, from zero who did not intake any cookies at all to maximum 818 kcal/day, an average of 75 kcal/day. When the students who did not intake cookies were excluded, energy 205 kcal. fat 10 g, sodium 177 mg were consumed from the cookie for a 1 day on average.
The purpose of this study was to investigate selected nutrient intakes, dietary atherogenesity, energy balance and activity level of college students. One hundred and thirty onoe students (61 males and 70 females) made their three-day dietary records and one-day activity records along with one-day dietary records. BMI of the surveyed students was 22.33 for males and 20.28 for females. Average calorie intakes of male and female students was respectively 2166.20kcal and 1793.60kcal. Females had slightly higher fiber intakes than males in terms of fiber g/1000kcal. Carbohydrate, protein and fat ratios in energy composition of males and females were respectively 56.62 : 15.33 : 24.70 and 57.64 : 16.49 : 25.79. Average cholesterol intakes of male and female students were 295.66mg and 259mg respectively. The male showed higher saturated fat intake. and had higher atherogenic indices of diets such as cholesterol index(CI) and cholesterol-saturated fat index(CSI) than the female. Males spent an average of 1039.00 kcal/day compared to females of 687.93 kcal/day for all physical activities. Most students participated in light (100% of males and females) and moderate (33% of males and 3% of females) activities level. Few students spent time at severe and very severe activity level. Seventeen of the 131 students were in positive energy balance whereas 83% were in negative balance. Both genders with positive energy balance tended towards smaller weight and BMI, and larger food intakes than those with negative energy balance. Students with positive energy balance had higher saturated fat intakes and dietary atherogenic scores of CI and CSI than the counterparts with negative energy balance. Males with positive energy balance had decreased physical activity and daily energy expenditure whereas increased food and saturated fat intakes. Females with positive energy balance had singificantly increased food, saturated fat and sugar intakes.
In this study, we investigated the effects of lowering the fat and cholesterol in the diets of 26 Korean hypercholesteolemic men($\geq$240mg/dl). They consumed 2378kcal/day with 20.9% of the energy deriving from fat, and a cholesterol intake of 282mg(118mg/1000kcal). The experimental diet consisted of 2400kcal, the same as their usual diet, but the fat content was restricted to 15%, and the cholesterol level to below 100mg/1000kcal. The subjects kept to this diet for four weeks and were asked to maintain their usual life activities during the experimental period. The dietary intake and levels of plasma lipid, lipoprotein-cholesterol and apoprotein of the subjects were analyzed before, two weeks into, and after four weeks dietary intervention. After two of the dietary intervention, there were no significant changes of plasma total cholesterol or triglyceride levels but there was some changes of phospholipid level. However, after four weeks, the levels of plasma total cholesterol, triglyceride, and phospholipid had decreased significantly: 18.2%, 32.9%, and 11.9%, respectively. And the LDL-cholesterol and VLDL-cholesterol levels also showed a marked reduction of 18.1%, and 33.0% respectively without change of HDL-cholesterol level. There were no changes in the levels of Apo-A 1, Apo-B, or Lp(a). The changes of the plasma lipid levels were significantly associated with the changes in dietary fat intake but not the cholesterol intake. In conclusion, although the responses to the dietary intervention varied among the individual subjects, the lowering of dietary fat component from 21% to 15% of energy intake seems to be an effective way to reduce plasma cholesterol and triglyceride levels without decreasing HDL-cholesterol level. It was also found that the restriction of dietary cholesterol to below 100mg/1000kcal not seem to be effective for the hypercholesterolemic patient who already consuming below 300mg/day of cholesterol.

The specific rate constants for the oxidation reactions of carbon monoxide on a unit catalytic surface area were measured. The catalysts used were NiO made from $Ni(NO_3)_2,\;and\;Ni(OH)_2$, and Mn$O_2$ made from Mn$(NO_3)_2$. At low pressure the reaction rate was found to be of second order and the activation energies were 12 kcal/mole (on NiO made from Ni$(NO_3)_2$, 17 kcal/mole (on NiO made from Ni$(OH)_2)$) and 18 kcal/mole (on Mn$O_2$). Plausible reaction mechanisms were proposed from the experimentally determined reaction orders.
The respiratory experiment was made on laying hen fed acclimented to three temperatures of 10, 20, and 30$^{\circ}C$. 1. The FHP of laying hen decreased with increasing room temperature. 2. The feed intake and heat production(HP) all decreased with increasing temperature. However, the highest energy retention was found with optimum temperature (20$^{\circ}C$). 3, The MEm's were 128,110, and 110kcalkg 0.75 for the 10, 20, and 30$^{\circ}C$ of room temperature. The NAME's were 64,78, and 69 percent for the respective room temperature. The results indicated that the highest NAME was obtained with optimum temperature(20$^{\circ}C$). 4. Although there was no significant difference in the nitrogen retention(NR) at different temperatures, the NR was maximum at the optimum temperature(20$^{\circ}C$). 5. The experimental results suggest that in the Bone of thermal neutrality under cooler and hotter conditions heat loss is more dependent on the environmental temperature.
The objective of this study was to determine protein quality and hematological properties of infant diets formulated from local food materials. The food materials were obtained locally, fermented, and milled into flour. The flours were mixed as 70% popcorn and 30% African locust bean (FPA), 70% popcorn and 30% bambara groundnut (FPB), and 70% popcorn, 20% bambara groundnut, and 10% African locust bean (FPAB). Proximate analysis, protein quality, hematological properties, and anthropometric measurements of the animals fed with the formulations were investigated. The protein contents of the formulated diets were significantly higher than that of Cerelac (a commercial preparation) ($15.75{\pm}0.01g$/100 g) and ogi (traditional complementary food) ($6.52{\pm}0.31g$/100 g). The energy value of FPAB ($464.94{\pm}1.22\;kcal$) was higher than those of FPA ($441.41{\pm}3.05\;kcal$) and FPB ($441.48{\pm}3.05\;kcal$). The biological value (BV) of FPAB (60.20%) was the highest followed by FPB (44.24%) and FPA (41.15%); however, BV of the diets was higher than that of ogi (10.03%) but lower than that of Cerelac (70.43%). Net protein utilization (NPU) of the formulations was 41.16-60.20%, whereas true protein digestibility was 41.05-60.05%. Metabolizable energy (232.98 kcal) and digestible energy (83.69 kcal) of FPAB were the highest, whereas that of FPA had the lowest values. The protein digestibility values corrected for amino acid score of the diets (0.22-0.44) were lower than that of Cerelac (0.52), but higher than that of ogi (0.21). The growth patterns and hematological properties (packed cell volume, red blood cells, hemoglobin, mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration, mean corpuscular hemoglobin, and mean corpuscular volume) of the formulated diets were higher than those of ogi, but lower than those of Cerelac. In conclusion, we established that the FPAB food sample was rated best in terms of protein quality over the other formulated diets. Therefore, a FPAB blend may be used as a substitute for ogi.

Industrial combustible waste is very valuable source for refuse derived solid fuel since its heating value is usually over 3,000kcal/kg. Especially, synthetic high molecular compound which is high of productivity and heating value is used as raw material in many cases. Film type plastic has been widely used for producing RPF because their shaping is easy and they has high heating value. On the other hand, the possibility of various type of waste as a source for RPF in this study. It has been found that resin compound drived and tire derived solid fuel showed more than 6,000kcal/kg of heating value. But the heating value decreased by adding paper and wood waste.

Three experiments were conducted with broilers to study the effects of early feed restriction. In all studies, treatments were represented by three replicated floor pens, each containing 20 birds. In Experiment 1, broilers were fed at 0.75 kcal ME/g BW/sup0.67 for 3 d, 1.5kcal m/E BW/sup0.67 for 5 d or 2.25 kcal ME/g BW/sup0.67 for 7 d, all imposed beginning at 7 d of age. Birds were smaller following feed restriction(P<0.05), although growth compensation occurred, and at 49 d all restricted birds were same(P>0.05) to full-fed control buds in body weight. Growth compensation was associated with improved feed conversion(P<0.05), although carcass composition was unchanged. In a second study, all birds were fed at 0.75 kcal ME/g BW/sup0.67 for 3 or 5 d, starting at either 4, 7, or 10 d of age. When feed restriction was applied for shorter periods of time, growth compensation occurred(P>0.05). With more severe feed restriction, birds were smaller(P<0.05) at 49 d compared to control. Feed conversion was improved following prior feed restriction(P<0.05, 4 to 49). In a third trial, broilers were fed a starter diet diluted with 50% rice hulls. Birds failed to consume enough of this diluted feed, and so were initially smaller, However 49 d weight was not affected (P>0.05). When periods of 24 h feed withdrawal were imposed in conjunction with the diluted diets, birds were under weight at 49 d. It is concluded that physical feed restriction at 0.75 to 1.5 kcal ME/g BW$\^$0.67 imposed for 3 to 5 d in the early life currently presents the best option as a means of controlling broiler growth so as to improve feed efficiency.
