Evaluation on Resistance to Pitting Corrosion of Fe-Cr Alloys via Measurement of the Critical Pitting Temperature (CPT) and Potentiodynamic Polarization According to KS D 0238 (wet, dry), ASTM G 61 and ISO 17475 Standards (Fe-Cr합금의 공식저항성 평가를 위하여 다양한 규격(KS D 0238, ASTM G 61, ISO 17475)에 따라 실시한 동전위 분극 시험과 임계공식온도 측정시험)

  • The resistance to pitting corrosion of Fe-Cr alloys was evaluated by performing potentiodynamic polarization and critical pitting temperature (CPT) tests. For the potentiodynamic polarization tests, various standards were applied, i.e., KS D 0238 (wet, dry), ASTM G 61, and ISO 17475, showing different potentiodynamic polarization results including pitting potentials. ASTM G 61 and ISO 17475 standards presented relatively higher pitting potential while KS D 0238 (dry) indicated lower values than the others. Effects of surface roughness, scan rates, and exposure time to air before tests were also investigated. CPT tests were performed under two different applied potentials, 300 m$V_{SCE}$ and 200 m$V_{SCE}$ in deaerated 1 M NaCl aqueous solution. CPT values and the polarization test results showed a linear relationship.

  • When designing protective clothing, there are something to be considered such as physiological feature of human body, acting range not to restrict physical activity, and effectiveness of material. Because the primary objective of protective clothing is to protect human body from danger and it is designed through complex designing process not likely general clothing design. However, current evaluation techniques-such as the ISO, the ASTM and the CEN, and KS-provide only the standard to evaluate the primary feature of material (testing, performance requirements, material specification, selection and application, test and care, and so on). There are no standard to evaluate influence for the human body while protective clothing put on. Especially, in Korea, there is KS to evaluate protective clothing, but it is partially translated version from ISO because of lack of core technology about this field. However, developed countries recognize it is new competitive means in the time of Global Standards and they are competing to make their own standard to global standard for the protective clothing. Therefore, it can be great opportunity for Korean clothing and textile industry to revitalize if focusing on research and development for protective clothing design based on physical activity of human body, fit evaluation technique and sizing which is currently no global standard for it and developing our standard to global standard.

Proposals of Integration of Korea Industrial Standard for Aggregates for Efficient Quality Control of Concrete Aggregate (콘크리트용 골재 품질 관리 효율화를 위한 골재 관련 KS 표준 통합 방안)

  • The objective of this paper is to provide integrated Korea industrial standards(KS) for concrete aggregates, which has been separately provided with ten kinds of KS, in order to improve the way of quality management of concrete aggregate and to prevent distribution of unsuitable aggregates. For the sequences of the paper, typical foreign standards related to concrete aggregates including ASTM for US, EN for EU, JIS for Japan are reviewed and compared to provide necessities and feasibilities of the paper. Based on the analysis above results, existing KS for concrete aggregates, which have been separately provided with ten kinds being lack of correlation between each KS is integrated to KS F 2526 "Aggregates for concrete" in this paper. By doing this, in terms of terminology, the expression of the aggregate, which has been currently classified into specified terminologies of aggregates depending on sources, manufacturing methods of each aggregates, is able to be integrated to single expression of the aggregate for concrete. It is believed that integrated KS presented herein provides more desirable way in terms of its better accessibility, easier revision and closer connection between each aggregate kinds.

  • In order to evaluate the difference of testing results in the standards on the compressive strength of various countries, we have compared the testing results of the compressive and flexural strength, one of the most important properties of cement, obtained on the various standards(KS, JIS, BS, ASTM) and the statistical method was used to evaluate the results.

  • An ultrasonic test method, as a nondestructive test is applied to ensure the clad interface quality assessment. According to the reference codes and standards, not only korea Industrial Standard(KS) but also American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Standard, ultrasonic examination procedures use the pulse-echo, A-scan, back reflection signal drop method and/or side drilled reference hole used to establish the acceptance criteria of clad material test. But the variety of bonding materials and sizes makes it difficult to produce the reference blocks, or thus the criteria. In order to overcome these practical difficulties, new ultrasonic testing criterion is suggested. In this new method, the theoretical interface reflection signal amplitude level is calculated and suggested as an acceptance criteria with the back reflection signal set to 100% FSH(Full Screen Height) which is based on acoustic impedance mismatch at the clad interface for the explosive clad ultrasonic inspection. Applicability of suggested criterion, for the explosive clad Fe-Naval Brass with different bonding quality is confirmed to the pre-existed KS and ASTM specifications and verified by using SEM (Seanning Electron Microscope) micrograph. The results obtained by the suggested method is more conservative than the results according to the KS B 0234 and ASTM A 578 specifications The suggested method could be applicable to any other combination of explosive clad ultrasonic inspection.

  • Aviation fuel oil is more strictly controlled than other transport fuels because it can lead to major accidents in the event of a problem. The quality standards of the aircraft are specified by the domestic Korean Standard, the American Society for Testing and Materials and the International Air Transport Association, respectively. From 2016 to 2017, the quality analysis of 6 items such as aromatic content, sulfur content and distillation characteristics was carried out on the jet fuel produced at five domestic refineries. Domestic production of jet fuel has been shown to be in conformity with the quality standards and has been maintained at a constant level throughout the year. Compared with the specification of ASTM and IATA the aromatic content of domestic KS specification is set to be strictly 1.5 wt% higher than the ASTM and IATA setting specification, but it satisfies this specification sufficiently. In addition, other items such as sulfur content, distillation property and flash point satisfied both domestic and international specification.

  • In determining properties of ductile cast iron, it is well known that nodularity plays a significant role. Therefore, the national and/or international standards for ductile cast iron such as KS, ISO, ASTM and JIS have specified some methods for evaluating it. However, most of standards have not recommended the methods using image analyzer which is known as an objective analyzing tool for evaluating microstructure. In this study, a reliable method for evaluating nodularity by image analyzing method was proposed, and the result was compared with that from the common counting method proposed in KS D 4302-1999. It was found that there was a reasonable relationship in nodularities measured by these two methods.

  • Synthetic fiber reinforced concrete is applicable to many applications for construction material. In general, synthetic fibers have low tensile strength and elastic modulus, but they have many advantages such as high crack resistance, impact resistance, chemical resistance, flexural behavior and corrosion free in fiber reinforced concrete. Recently, fiber reinforced concrete with macro synthetic fibers has been used to improve performance of structures in tunnel shotcrete, precast segmental lining and bridge slab and precast concrete structures. This study investigated the influence of bundled type polyamide fiber reinforced concrete on the flexural behavior in accordance with ASTM C 1609 and KS F 2566 standards.
