  • Professional journal articles, while eye-catching, nay also be somewhat superficial and formal. In fact, interior design magazines focus on providing images rather than texts to appeal to readers. Thus, it has been difficult for interior design magazines to represent interior designers who are serious about their career. The KOSID Journal, on the other hand, is not a professional journal, but handles current Issues that are most sensitive and important to professional interior designers and provides understanding of contemporary interior design trends. In this respect, this study analyzed the contents of the KOSID Journal, from its founding issue (1983) until it began to serve academic purposes with the establishment of the Interior Design Association in 1992 and discussions of the interior design discourse of the time.

  • With rapid economic development in Korea, interests in interior design have increased gradually. However, interior design markets were poorly evaluated from 2015 Korean Consumer Evaluation. It is necessary to identify what kinds of problems, defects, and consumer claims have arisen during interior design planning and construction procedures. Therefore the purpose of this study is to investigate claims and disputes in interior design project procedures and to find out when defects or claims take place in those procedures in order to reduce claims or defects. Email questionnaires were distributed to KOSID members (professional interior designers) using Google Survey. In addition, a focus group interview was conducted. A total of 54 responses were collected and analyzed using SPSS 19. As a result, in an agreement stage, alteration in materials is the major source of claim. More than a half of respondents addressed time shortage for programming and planning. During the construction stage, approximately 31% respondents experienced client dissatisfaction with materials and finishes. The reason for project completion delay was due to claims during construction. The claims most frequently appealed by clients were related to painting. The satisfaction with project quality is positively related to the quality and contents of design documents including design drawings and specifications. Regulations and communication with clients are important issues to reduce the gaps between interior designers and clients/ consumers.

  • As remodeling market is growing and peoples' concern on health and well-being is getting high, there is a need to apply environmentally friendly approach to remodeling an interior space. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to provide basic information on environmentally friendly remodeling process focused on the implementation of interior construction process. The method of this study was two-folds. First, previous researches were reviewed to drive general remodeling process, and then content of implementation of environmentally friendly remodeling process were added. Second, semi-structured interview was conducted to eight experts in interior design who were members of KOSID. The results of this study are as follows; (1) Applying environmentally friendly method to remodeling will be essential. Therefore, it is necessary to develop various types of environmentally friendly finish materials and methods and continuing attention should be paid. (2) For broad implementing an environmentally friendly application on remodeling, builders, interior designers, manufacturers, and clients should change their consciousness through education and publicity, (3) The results showed that using environmentally friendly materials was the most primary concern for the designers. However, there is a lack of information about contamination derived from materials when manufacturing and constructing and even wastes. Thus designers should be aware of using environmentally friendly verified materials regarding materials itself and its manufacturing process.

  • The study Is Intended to investigate and analyze the system and practice that have been applied to Interior Architecture, comparing with a number of similar foreign cases, in an attempt to seek the way toward its development as well as to come up with the solution for enhancing the competitiveness, thereby making a recommendation on how to create the desirable work environment of Interior Architecture down the road. The conclusion and recommendation we have made is highlighted as follow. Among the practical or procedural challenges in the process of improving work environment of Interior Architecture, development of current national technical qualification system in a way of further detailing the categories of Ki-sul-sa(highest engineer grade) or Ki-neung-jang(highest technician grade) as part of measures aimed at gradual approaching for improvement of design fees and rates or supervision fees will be very crucial, that calls for close coordination with the Ministry of Labor and Human Resources Development Service of Korea. In a bid to upgrade the Interior Architecture to become the part of knowledge-based industry, amendment to Korean Standard Industrial Classification along with Standard Classification of Occupations and Academic Classification will be essential, and moreover with the attitude of reflection and self-improvement, the endeavors to be able to deal with the revision of existing laws and regulations in a consistent way and manner, by forming a joint committee among the three Interior Architecture-related organizations(KOSID, ICC, KlID), will be more than important.

  • Since International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) was established in 1968, the number of joined nations is getting increasing and the regime for variety protection was intensified. Korea joined as the 50th member nation in UPOV. A lot of floricultural plants including rose and chrysanthemum from foreign countries have been applied and registered by Korea Seed and Variety Service (KOSID). Since Korea is one of the importing countries in cut flowers and bulbs, paying royalty is a big burden. Now we are to identify the policy on handling of a mutant from essentially derived varieties (EDV) and relation of a finder (or grower) and breeder by different companies in each country. As a result, the rights are provided not to a finder but to a breeder (breeding company) in most industries. Second, grower's rights are recognized, but in case of the mutant is commercialized, a grower and a breeder should come to a mutual agreement. Third, there is a kind of compensation system for the finder of the mutant.
