  • In this paper, the kinematics of the new type of parallel manipulator is studied, and neural network is applied to solve the forward kinematics problem. The parallel manipulator, called a Stewart platform, has an easy and unique solution about the inverse kinematics, however the forward kinematics is difficult to get the solution because of the lack of an efficient algorithm due to its highly nonlinearity. This paper proposes the neural network scheme as an alternative Newton-Raphson method. The neural network is found to improve its accuracy by adjusting the offset of the result obtained.

  • This paper presents a new formulation of the kinematics of closed-chain mechanisms and its applications to obtaining the kinematic solutions and analyzing the singularities. Closed-chain mechanisms under consideration may have the redundancy in the number of joints. A closed-chain mechanism can be treated as the parallel connection of two open-chains with respect to a point of interest. The kinematics of a closed-chain mechanism is then obtained by imposing the kinematic constraints of the closed-chain on the kinematics of the two open-chains. First, we formulate the kinematics of a closed-chain mechanism using the kinematic constraint between the controllable active joints and the rest of joints, instead of the kinematic constraint between the two open-chains. The kinematic formulation presented in this paper is valid for closed-chain mechanisms with and without the redundancy. Next, based on the derived kinematics of a closed-chain mechanism, we provide the kinematic solutions which are more physically meaningful and less sensitive to numerical instability, and also suggest an effective way to analyze the singularities. Finally, the computational cost associated with the kinematic formulation is analyzed.

  • This paper proposes simple and practical methods in order to overcome complex formulation and heavy computational burden of the forward kinematics of 6 앨 3-6 type parallel manipulators. Three ap-proaches for the forward kinematics are presented : one extra sensor a modified structure and novel numerical method. The proposed methods are applied to the forward kinematics of a new 6 앨 parallel manipulator with special geometry that has three internal links three external links and a moving platform of a cone shape. The proposed methods use three tetrahedrons for finding the position and orientation vector of the moving platform. The main advantages of the appraches using tetrahedrons are to abbreviate the formulation to easily find so-lutions of the forward kinematics and to be able to practically control of the manipulator in real time.

  • Line graphs are powerful tools in conveying complicated relationships and ideas because they show the relationship that exists between two continuous variables. Also, they can show readers the variations in variables and correlate two variables in a two dimensional space, and therefore, line graphs have a significant role in physics, especially kinematics. One of the purposes of the Test of Understanding Graphs in Kinematics (TUG-K) was to uncover student problems with interpreting kinematics. The TUG-K was given to Korean college students in 2004. To what extent are Korean college students able to understand such important line graphs? Analysis of the results of the TUG-K showed in which objectives students' strengths and weaknesses are found. This study investigates Korean college students' interpretation skills of kinematics graphs and the results of the study will be used to help instructors teach kinematics graphs more effectively.

  • This paper presents a novel pose description corresponding to the structure characteristics of parallel manipulators, which is convenient and intuitionistic to us. A class of 3-RSR parallel manipulator is considered here. Through analysis on geometry theory, we obtain a new method of the closed-form solution to the forward kinematics. The closed-form solution contains two different meanings-analytical and real-time. So we reach the goal of practical application and control. A numerical example is also presented and are verified by an inverse kinematics analysis. It shows that the method has a practical value for real-time control.

  • In this paper, the numerical inverse kinematics analysis is presented for a collaborative robot with an offset wrist. Robot manipulators with offset wrist are widely used in industrial applications, due to many advantages over those with wrist center and those with three parallel axes such as simple mechanical design, light weight, and so on. There may not exist a closed-form solution for a robot manipulator with offset wrist. A simple numerical method is applied to solve the inverse kinematics with offset wrist. Singularity is analyzed using Jacobian matrix and the numerical inverse kinematics algorithm is implemented on the real-time controller.

  • In this paper, we present an inverse kinematics of a 7-dof Anthropomorphic robot arm using conformal geometric algebra. The inverse kinematics of a 7-dof Anthropomorphic robot arm using CGA can be computed in an easy way. The geometrically intuitive operations of CGA make it easy to compute the joint angles of a 7-dof Anthropomorphic robot arm which need to be set in order for the robot to reach its goal or the positions of a redundant robot arm's end-effector. In order to choose the best solution of the elbow position at an inverse kinematics, optimization techniques have been proposed to minimize an objective function while satisfying the euler-lagrange equation.
