  • High-Level synthesis of digital circuits calls for automatic translation of a behavioral description to a structural design entity represented in terms of components and connection. One of the critical steps in high-level synthesis is to determine a particular scheduling algorithm that will assign behavioral operations to control states. A new scheduling algorithm called Data Availability Scheduling (DAS) for high-level synthesis is presented. It can determine an appropriate scheduling algorithm and minimize the number of states required using data availability and dependency conditions extracted from the behavioral code, taking into account of states required using data availability and dependency conditions extracted from the behavioral code, taking into account resource constraint in each control state. The DAS algorithm is efficient because data availability conditions, and conditional and wait statements break the behavioral code into manageable pieces which are analyzed independently. The output is the number of states in a finite state machine and shows better results than those of previous algorithms.

  • The special session of the East Asian Observatory was prepared to let the Korean Astronomical Community know the current status and future prospect of the EAO, and to hear the opinion from the community. The East Asian Observatory (EAO) was formulated on September 5, 2014 by East Asian Core Observatories Associations (EACOA) as a non-profit company registered in the State of Hawaii. As a first mission of the EAO, it has successfully operated the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT) since March 2015. The Submillimeter Array (SMA) has been available to the East Asian astronomers from 2017A season through the EAO, and the Subaru and the East Asian VLBI Network (EAVN) are the possible facilities to be available in near future.

  • The paper describes the construction of global function approximation models for use in design optimization via global search techniques such as genetic algorithms. Two different approximation methods referred to as evolutionary fuzzy modeling (EFM) and neuro-fuzzy modeling (NFM) are implemented in the context of global approximate optimization. EFM and NFM are based on soft computing paradigms utilizing fuzzy systems, neural networks and evolutionary computing techniques. Such approximation methods may have their promising characteristics in a case where the training data is not sufficiently provided or uncertain information may be included in design process. Fuzzy inference system is the central system for of identifying the input/output relationship in both methods. The paper introduces the general procedures including fuzzy rule generation, membership function selection and inference process for EFM and NFM, and presents their generalization capabilities in terms of a number of fuzzy rules and training data with application to a three-bar truss optimization.

  • To satisfy operation condition in information storage device, the suspension shape is very important since it correlates to dynamic characteristics. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the dynamic characteristics by using finite element analysis, shape optimization. The suspension has various modes according to different kinds of frequency bandwidth. Sway mode and second torsion mode are especially critical among them. (omitted)

  • The main obstacle to high track density in HDD id the structural resonances of the suspension. The most critical mode is sway mode and second torsion mode, when a data is read and written. It is common fact that the effect of two modes is smaller when a thickness is bulky. But the stiffness of suspension is smaller, the slider can follow a disk better. Because these two fact are reciprocal, a compromise is needed. So we investigated another method to improve band width without changing of the thickness of suspension but with changing of the shape. • We study the effect of driving scheme on the density-magnetic field correlation. We numerically investigate how the correlation time of driving affects the correlation between density and magnetic field. We performed MHD turbulence simulation using two different driving schemes - a finite-correlated driving and a delta-correlated driving. In the former, the forcing vectors change continuously with a correlation time comparable to the large-eddy turnover time. In the latter, the direction and amplitude of driving changes in a very short time scale.

  • Magnetic fields play an important role in star-forming processes by regulating gravitational collapse. In filamentary structures of star-forming regions, magnetic fields are likely to be aligned with minor axes of filamentary molecular clouds because matter freely moves along magnetic field lines. Orion A region, one of the well-known high-mass star forming regions, has long filament structure. In order to study magnetic field directions with respect to the filamentary structure in Orion A, we have analyzed $850{\mu}m$ dust polarization observations obtained with the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT). We found tight correlation of dust intensity gradients and magnetic field directions. It was estimated that 81% of magnetic field segments are aligned with density gradients within 40 degree. In conclusion, we confirmed most of magnetic field segments are perpendicular to the major axis of the filament in Orion A.

  • Magnetic fields affect star formation in a broad range of scales from parsec to hundreds au. In particular, interferometric observations and ideal magneto-hydrodynamic (MHD) simulations have reported that formation of a rotation-supported disk at the earliest young stellar objects (YSOs) is largely suppressed by magnetic fields aligned to the rotational axis of YSOs: magnetic braking. Our recent ALMA observations toward L1448 IRS 2, which has a rotation detected and its magnetic fields aligned to the rotation axis (poloidal fields) in ~500 au scales, show that the fields switch to toroidal at the center in ~100 au scales. This result suggests that magnetic braking may not be so catastrophic for early disk formation even in YSOs with magnetic fields aligned to the rotational axis.

  • The current trend of Korean-based journals is to become international journals. Support from academic societies and the government to improve the quality of journal and achieve internationalization is growing. For world-wide dissemination of journal contents, an online peer-review system and high quality journal web site are required. Also journals should be written in English. Proper publication ethics is also needed. For this article, I researched the current status of the 'Journal of the Korean academy of Pediatric Dentistry' and have made some suggestions to help with this journal's internationalization process for the future.
