  • KEPCO is now promoting the overseas transmission businesses on the basis of competitive transmission technology. This paper deals with a development study on the power system network analysis in Myanmar which was performed as the first overseas transmission business of KEPCO. The aim of this study is to establish comprehensive and stable power system network plan by analyzing the current and future system in Myanmar.

  • In order to integrate large amounts of variable generation resources such as wind and solar reliably into power grids, accurate renewable energy forecasting is necessary. Since renewable energy generation output is heavily influenced by environmental variables, accurate forecasting of power generation requires meteorological data at the point where the plant is located. Therefore, a spatial approach is required to predict the meteorological variables at the interesting points. In this paper, we propose the meteorological variable prediction model for enhancing renewable generation output forecasting model. The proposed model is implemented by three geostatistical techniques: Ordinary kriging, Universal kriging and Co-kriging.

  • High penetration of renewable energy generators causes unnecessary investment for power system facilities. Especially with Korean government policies such as Renewable Energy 3020 and Inter-connection support Responsibility of KEPCO for 1 MW DERs, the applications of DER interconnection in distribution system have been increasing. To save the investment, smart control functions for DERs are required and the test bed for the inverters which have not been prepared are necessary to insure DER inter-connection stability. For this, test bed for advanced functions of a smart inverter has been constructed and the tests for necessary functions have been implemented. In this paper, the test bed and environment as well as specifications are introduced and the test results for the validation of the functions are analyzed.

  • This paper statistically analyzes the time required for each failure cause and describes a diagnostic method for 159 reports of failure analysis of MV cables that occurred in the distribution system of KEPCO over the past 18 years. In addition, the manufacturer's failure rate compared to 100C-km was calculated using 381 cases of MV cable deterioration failure between 2008 and 2020. It is hoped that this paper will help those in charge of maintaining underground facilities at the business office to use the failure rate to prioritize facility diagnosis.

  • After the spread of the data collection devices such as smart meters, energy data is increasingly collected in a variety of ways, and its importance continues to grow. However, due to technical or practical limitations, errors such as missing or outliers in the data occur during data collection process. Especially in the case of customer-related data, billing problems may occur, so energy companies are conducting various research to process such data. In addition, efforts are being made to create added value from data, which makes it difficult to provide such services unless reliability of data is guaranteed. In order to solve these challenges, this research analyzes prior research related to bad data processing specifically in the energy field, and propose new missing value processing methods to improve the reliability and field utilization of energy data.

바닥재 냉각기 기포유동층의 기체-고체 연전달 분석 (Gas-Solid Heat Transfer Analysis of Bubbling Fluidized Bed at Bottom Ash Cooler)

  • In this study we investigated the gas to solid heat transfer of bubbling fluidized bed bottom ash cooler installed at the Donghae power plant in South Korea. Several different analyses are done through 1-D calculations and 3-D CFD simulation to predict the bottom ash exit temperatures when it exits the ash cooler. Three different cases are set up to have consideration of unburnt carbon in the bottom ash. Sensible heat comparison and heat transfer calculation between the fluidization air and the bottom ash are conducted and 3-D CFD analysis is done on three cases. We have obtained the results that the bottom ash with unburnt carbon is exiting the ash cooler, exceeding the targeted temperature from both 1-D calculation and 3-D CFD simulation.

  • As ESS safety issues increase recently, there is a need to more precisely monitor the temperature of the ESS. In this paper, DTS technology for temperature monitoring of ESS batteries is introduced and the temperature measurement principle is explained. The temperature of the battery module is measured using the DTS system, and the thermal deviation between battery cells inside the battery module is analyzed. In order to analyze how thermal imbalance affects the charging and discharging performance of the battery, an accelerated degradation test was conducted. Cycle life characteristics analysis, battery surface temperature change, and AC impedance characteristics were conducted to analyze how the performance of battery cells differs according to temperature conditions.

백화현상에 따른 ACSR 송선선로의 인장강도 특성 분석 (Analysis of Tensile Strength Characteristics of ACSR due to White Rust)

  • In this study, a tensile test, one of the mechanical tests, was performed with the collected natural aging ACSR. In order to be used as basic data for predicting the replacement cycle of ACSR, the tensile strength with the normal cables was compared for cables which was caused white rust due to exposure of the hard-drawn aluminum wire surface. Among the ACSR wires collected from various regions, white rust was found on the surface of the small wire, and by checking the tensile strength of them, we would like to suggest the criteria for the ACSR replacement cycle, focusing on changes in mechanical properties.
