An Analysis of the Class 'Philosophy' in the 5th Edition of Korean Decimal Classification and Relative Index (KDC 제5판 철학류 항목 전개에 관한 소고)

  • This research analyzes the revised philosophy class in the 5th Edition of Korean Decimal Classification. It depends on the 1st Edition of KDC despite of the fact that contents and words were revised and changed, numbers for classification were moved, and indices were removed from the previous Edition of KDC. The object of the 5th Edition of KDC, metaphysics and eistemology are organized in the same sub-class(綱) through modifying, sex psychology, development psychology, physiognomy fortune judgment, applied psychology are expanded that its data are increasing in psychology, ethics, moral philosophy are modified.

  • This article analyzes the general characteristics and major revisions of the newly published DDC 23, including those of Tables and Schedules. Based on these and general background found in the process of revision and maintenance of DDC, it suggests some implications and ideas for the revision of KDC.

  • The notes of the classification system are to improve the accuracy and consistency of classification by providing useful information on classification numbers and items. Even though, several notes are used in KDC, they are not enough to keep up with rapidly developing and expanding knowledge of nowadays. The purpose of this study is to suggest appropriate types and improvements of the notes in KDC 5th edition. In order to achieve these purposes, transition of notes in KDC was analyzed. Notes of DDC 23rd edition, NDC new 9th edition, and KDC 5th edition were also analyzed. Based upon these comparison and analysis, problem and improvement of notes in KDC were suggested.

The Methods for the Improvement of the KDC 5th Edition of Education Classification System (KDC 제5판 교육학분야 분류체계 개선 방안)

  • This study is intended to present methods improving the classification system of KDC education fields after comparing and analyzing the academic system of education, classification system of KDC, NDC, DDC and LCC, and that of the research field classification system of National Research Foundation of Korea. The results of the analysis have revealed that it is required to improve and correct the KDC 5th edition of education including the addition of classification items that reflect the trend of academic development, proper development in the rank classification terms of education detailed fields, addition of detailed subjects, errors of classification symbols and omission of correlative indexes in the classification items. This study has proposed improved methods to solve those problems.

  • This study is intended to present methods improving the classification system of KDC architecture engineering fields after comparing and analyzing the academic system of architecture engineering, classification system of KDC, DDC, and LCC, and that of the research field classification system of National Research Foundation of Korea. The results of the analysis have revealed that it is required to improve and correct the KDC 5th edition of architectural engineering including the addition of classification items that reflect the trend of academic development, proper development in the rank classification terms of architectural structure engineering, addition of detailed subjects, selection of proper classification terms, errors of classification symbols and English expression, and omission of correlative indexes in the classification items. This study has proposed improved methods to solve those problems.

  • Constructions and Architecture fields were divided into Architecture engineering and Architecture in the 5th edition of Korean Decimal Classification (KDC), but those were combined in the 6th edition of KDC published in 2013. The purposes of this study are to find problems and to suggest modifications through comparing and analyzing the 5th and the 6th editions of KDC, Dewey Decimal Classification, Nippon Decimal Classification and Universal Decimal Classification. The necessity of reclassification, a long classification number for History of Architecture and addition of categories of traditional building and architectural engineering are required to improve the 6th edition of KDC and the improvements and modifications of those problems are suggested.

  • The purpose of this study aims to provide possible suggestions for the improvement of the korean Decimal Classification System in 21th century through the analysis of history field as the subject of study. As a result of this study, some problems(for example, irrational classification number system, very simplicity of $\lceil$Table of Geographic Areas. Historical Periods. Persons$\rfloor$. improper development of class 900, necessity of some internal tables and $\lceil$Table of Racial, Ethnic, National Groups$\rfloor$, insufficiency of note etc.) were found out. This study can be useful for the future revision of KDC4 because a revolutionary improvement were provided.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the problems concerning the arrangement of 679 Korean music schedules in the fifth edition of KDC and to propose improvements of that problems. In this study, therefore, the theoretical knowledge background of Korean music is examined first. Then, the development of 679 Korean music section and subsection from first edition to the fifth edition of KDC were examined. And the expansion aspects and their problems of 679 Korean music of the fifth edition of KDC were analyzed and some suggestions to solve that problems were proposed.

A Study of Revision of the History Class(900) for the KDC 6th Edition (한국십진분류법 역사(900) 분야 개정에 대한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate and analyse the revised contents of the history class in the Korean Decimal Classification(KDC), 5th edition, and then identify problems and propose the revised contents for the KDC, 6the edition. Major analysed areas are divided into four. First, geographic area table is discussed. It includes extension of the geographic area table, emphasis of hierarchical structure in the geographical area, revision of North Korean geographical names, extension of subgeographical structure of major nations in the world, and revision of nations in the central and west Asia. Second, Korean time period is extended. Third, the notes of entries of the Chinese and Japanese history areas are shorten. Fourth, the geographical and personal names are changed their native pronunciation, specially Chinese and Japanese. For the revision of the KDC, 6th edition, four areas are discussed: first, Korean geographic areas would be categorized by broaden area, second, the areas are arranged from the capital of the nation to others, third, foreign geographical names would be used their native names, and last, time period would be categorized by years.
