  • In this paper, the conceptual design of satellite digital base put which is based upon data interface between satellite on-board computer and remote devices like satellite sub-components is presented. This conceptual design shows the unification of the interface between on-board computer and satellite remote devices and the hierarchical results of the interface level. A comparison of different system and merits and demerits of digital base part coming from this conceptual design is performed.

  • To avoid an unexpected explosion occurring from a mixture of LOx and fuel, Inter-Propellant Seal (IPS) is used in a Turbopump. This paper presents a brief theoretical backgrounds of IPS and also reports preliminary test results. Tests were performed up to 1.5 MPa and 20,000 rpm and leakage performance of IPS was evaluated. As a result it was verified that leakage flow rate of IPS satisfied its design requirement.

  • Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI) is under development to provide a monitoring of oceancolor around the Korean Peninsula from geostationary platforms. It is planned to be loaded on Communication, Ocean, and Meteorological Satellite (COMS) of Korea. In this paper radiometric calibration concept of the GOCI is introduced. The GOCI radiometric response is modeled as a nonlinear system in order to reflect a nonlinear characteristic of detector. In this paper estimation approaches for radiometric parameters of GOCI model are discussed. For the GOCI, the offset signal depends on each spectral channel because dark current offset signal is a function of integration time which is different from channel to channel. The offset parameter can be estimated by using offset signal measurements for two integration time setting is described.

  • The KOMPSAT-1(Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite-1) is the first multi-purpose satellite funded by Korean government for the purpose of remote sensing and scientific data gathering in KOREA. It has successfully achieved its own mission since Dec. 21, 1999. This paper provides an overview of the KOMPSAT-1 missions and addresses the nominal mission planning and operation flow. This paper also describes the routine operational orbit determination and orbit prediction process using GPS navigation solution data. Meanwhile, some problems due to inexperience of the multiple mission operations during LEOP(Launch & Early Orbit Phase) and early normal mission were investigated. Then, resolutions that include the development of new mission planning tool are addressed. The KOMPSAT-1´s missions become more complicated rather than its Initially designed ones. In order to accomplish ...

  • NARO Space Center is being developed as a national project for the Korea Space Development Program. Among the major missions of the Space Center, the Range Control System is the focal point for all command and control operation of the Space Center. The acquired data from the Tracking Stations and the on-site facilities is processed and distributed in the Control Center. Data processing or data fusion is needed for the exact tracking of the Launch Vehicle from several tracking systems. The first phase, which is the best telemetry source is selected among data streams that are received from each telemetry stations using some pre-defined criterion. Trajectory data and major telemetry parameters...

  • COMS(Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite) has multiple payloads; Meteorological Image(MI), Ocean Color Imager(GOCI) and Ka-band communication payloads. MI has 4 IR and 1 visible channel. In order to improve the quality of IR image, two calibration sources are used; black body image and cold space look data. In case of COMS, the space look is performed at 10.4 degree away from the nadir in east/west direction. During space look, SUN or moon intrusions are strictly forbidden, because it would degrade the quality of collected IR channel calibration data. Therefore we shall pay attention to select space look side depending on SUN and moon location. This paper proposes and discusses a simple and complete space look side selection logic based on SUN and moon intrusion event file. Computer simulation has been performed to analyze the performance of the proposed algorithm in term of east/west angular distance between space look position and hazardous intrusion sources; SUN and moon.

  • Band-limited filtering will be applied to remove interference resulted from two neighbored channels in the transmission of KOMPSAT-5 X-Band image data. In that case, receiver in ground station should prepare righteous matched filter to avoid huge BER degradation depending on the matched filter of COTS receiver. As an effort to simulate the bandlimited filtering, test filter was designed and manufactured on the basis of main specification for output filter of KOMPSAT-5 satellite. Consequently, 1.8dB of BER degradation was measured at the output of test band-pass filter, but the degradation was downsized up to 0.4dB thanks to the adaptive matched filter of COTS receiver.

  • This study describes to design the interface between VDL (VHF Digital Link) Mode 2 system and AOA (ACARS Over AVLC) network. KARI-Wrapper using aircraft and ground station design requirements should be designed to the system configuration of the in-out interface of the components and analyzed with the ARINC 618, 620, 622 documentations. According to the system interface test, we are verified the satisfactions of uplink and downlink VDL Mode 2 requirements.

  • This work discusses the numerical analysis, the design and experimental test of the SMA (Shape Memory Alloy) actuator along with its capabilities and limitations. Convection heating and cooling using water actuate the SMA element of the actuator. The fuel such as propane, having a high energy density, is used as the energy source for the SMA actuator in order to increase power and energy density of the system, and thus in order to obviate the need for electrical power supplies such as batteries. The system is composed of a pump, valves, bellows, a heater (burner), control unit and a displacement amplification device. The actuation frequency is compared with the prediction obtained from numerical analysis. For the designed SMA actuator system, the results of numerical analysis were utilized in determining design parameters and operating conditions.
