Estimated channel information, especially multipath length and multipath channel of the desired user, is necessary for most previously reported linear blind multiuser detectors in code division multiple access (CDMA) systems. This paper presents a new blind intersymbol decorrelating detector in asynchronous CDMA systems, which uses the cross correlation matrix of the consecutive symbols. The proposed detector is attractive for its simplicity because no channel estimation is required except the synchronization of the desired user. Compared with other reported multiuser detectors, simulation results show that the proposed detector provides a good performance when the active users have significant intersymbol interference and the multipath length is short.

A game theoretic approach is applied for studying the energy efficient rate scheduling. The individual utility function is defined first. Then, a non cooperative rate game is modeled in which each user decides the transmission rate to maximize its own utility. The utility function considered here is the consumed energy for the individual user's data transmissions. In particular, using the fact that the utility function is convex, we prove the existence of Nash Equilibrium in the energy efficient rate scheduling problem at hand. Accordingly, a non cooperative scheduling algorithm is provided. For better energy efficiency, the sum of the individual user's utility function is optimized Finally, the convergence analysis and numerical results to show the energy efficiency of the proposed algorithms are provided.

Cognitive radio (CR) has been proposed as an effective technology for flexible use of the radio spectrum. The interference between primary users and CR users, however, becomes a critical problem when they are using adjacent frequency channels with different transmission power levels. In this paper, a robust CR orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) architecture, which can effectively suppress interference to nearby primary users and overcome adjacent channel interference (ACI) to the CR user, is proposed. This new approach is characterized by adaptive data repetition for subcarriers under heavy ACI, and adaptive time spreading for subcarriers near the borders of the CR user's spectrum. The data repetition scheme provides extra power gain against the ACI coming from primary users. Time spreading guarantees an acceptable interference level to nearby primary users. By computer simulation, we demonstrate that, under a CR environment, the proposed CR OFDM architecture outperforms conventional OFDM systems in terms of throughput and BER performance.
Beamforming techniques have been successfully utilized for traffic channels in order to solve the interference problem. However, their use for control channels has not been sufficiently investigated. In this paper, a (semi-) centralized beamforming strategy that adaptively changes beam patterns and controls the total transmit power of cells is proposed for the performance enhancement of the common channel in hierarchical cell structure (HCS) networks. In addition, some examples of its practical implementation with low complexity are presented for two-tier HCS networks consisting of macro and pico cells. The performance of the proposed scheme has been evaluated through multi-cell system-level simulations under optimistic and pessimistic interference scenarios. The cumulative distribution function of user geometry or channel quality has been used as a performance metric since in the case of common control channel the number of outage users is more important than the sum rate. Simulation results confirm that the proposed scheme provides a significant gain compared to the random beamforming scheme as well as conventional systems that do not use the proposed algorithm. Finally, the proposed scheme can be applied simultaneously to several adjacent macro and pico cells even if it is designed primarily for the pico cell within macro cells.
One of the most serious factors constraining the next generation cellular mobile consumer communication systems will be the severe co-channel interference experienced at the cell edge. Such a capacity-degrading impairment combined with the limited available spectrum resource makes it essential to develop more spectrally efficient solutions to enhance the system performance and enrich the mobile user's application services. This paper proposes a unique hybrid method of frequency hopping (FH) and subcarrier-reuse-partitioning that can maximize the system capacity by efficiently utilizing the available spectrum while at the same time reduce the co-channel interference effect. The main feature of the proposed method is that it applies an optimal combination of different frequency reuse factors (FRF) and FH-subcarrier allocation patterns into the partitioned cell regions. From the simulation results, it is shown that the proposed method can achieve the optimum number of subcarrier subsets according to the frequency-reuse distance and results in better performance than the fixed FRF methods, for a given partitioning arrangement. The results are presented in the context of both blocking probability and BER performances. It will also be shown how the proposed scheme is well suited to FH-OFDMA based cellular systems aiming at low co-channel interference performance and optimized number of subcarriers.

Most of the current frequency hopping (FH) based dynamic spectrum access (DSA) methods concern a reactive channel access scheme with synchronous inter-channel spectrum sensing, i.e., FH is reactively triggered by the primary user (PU)'s return reported by spectrum sensing, and the PU channel to be switched to is assumed precisely just sensed or ready to be sensed, as if the inter-channel spectrum sensing moments are synchronous. However, the inter-channel spectrum sensing moments are more likely to be asynchronous, which risks PU suffering more interference. Moreover, the spectrum sensing is usually erroneous, which renders the problem more complex. To address this problem, we propose a proactive FH based DSA method against both erroneous spectrum sensing and asynchronous inter-channel spectrum sensing (moments). We term it as proactive DSA. The optimal FH sequence is obtained by dynamic programming. The complexity is also analyzed. Finally, the simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method.

In this paper, we design on nonliner 3 user Dirty Paper Precoding for MIMO adjacant interference signal cancellation based on 3 GPP LTE Release 10. In this paper, in order to reduce the inter-channel interference at the transmitted side, we propose the Dirty Paper Precoding scheme for 3-user MIMO wireless systems using LQ decomposition and Gram-Schmidt algorithm based in its orthonormal basis.
Due to the difficulty of coordination in the cellular uplink, it is a practical challenge how to achieve the optimal throughput scaling with distributed scheduling. In this paper, we propose a distributed and opportunistic user scheduling (DOUS) that achieves the optimal throughput scaling in a single-input multiple-output interfering multiple-access channel, i.e., a multi-cell uplink network, with M antennas at each base station (BS) and N users in a cell. In a distributed fashion, each BS adopts M random receive beamforming vectors and then selects M users such that both sufficiently large desired signal power and sufficiently small generating interference are guaranteed. As a main result, it is proved that full multiuser diversity gain can be achieved in each cell when a sufficiently large number of users exist. Numerical evaluation confirms that in a practical setting of the multi-cell network, the proposed DOUS outperforms the existing distributed user scheduling algorithms in terms of sum-rate.

In this paper, we investigate the power allocation for cognitive relay networks. Cognitive relay networks offer not only increasing spectral efficiency by spectrum sharing but also extending the coverage through the use of relays. For spectrum sharing, conventional works have assumed that secondary users know perfect channel information between the secondary and primary users. However, this channel information may be outdated at the secondary user because of the time-varying properties or feedback latency from the primary user. This causes the violation for interference constraint, and the secondary user cannot share the spectrum of the primary after all. To overcome this problem, we propose the power allocation scheme for the secondary user under the allowable primary user's outage probability constraint. Since the proposed power allocation scheme does not use the instantaneous channel information, the secondary users have lower feedback burden. In addition, the proposed scheme is also robust to the outdated channel environment.

This paper reports a cognitive radio network architecture based on overloaded multicarrier direct sequence code division multiple access (O-MC-DS-CDMA). The O-MC-DSCDMA technique combines CDMA with a multicarrier modulation technique to overcome the channel fading effects. In this technique, secondary users are enabled to share the available bandwidth with the existing primary users. Two sets of orthogonal Gold codes are used to support the primary and secondary users simultaneously. The orthogonality between the spreading codes is lost due to the non-zero cross correlation between the codes and the timing synchronization error in the uplink transmission, which causes interference between primary and secondary users. This paper proposes two modified hybrid parallel/successive interference cancellation techniques for primary and secondary user base station receivers with multiple antennas to suppress the interference among users. Interference among the same group of users is cancelled by parallel interference cancellation and the interference among groups is cancelled using successive interference cancellation. The simulation results confirmed that the proposed modified interference cancellation techniques show better BER performance over conventional interference cancellation techniques.
