Development and Characterization of Tissue Equivalent Proportional Counter for Radiation Monitoring in International Space Station

  • Tissue equivalent proportional counter (TEPC) can measure the Linear Energy Transfer (LET) spectrum and calculate the equivalent dose for the complicated radiation field in space. In this paper, we developed and characterized a TEPC for radiation monitoring in International Space Station (ISS). The prototype TEPC which can simulate a 2 ${\mu}m$ of the site diameter for micro-dosimetry has been tested with a standard alpha source ($^{241}Am$, 5.5 MeV). Also, the calibration of the TEPC was performed by the $^{252}Cf$ neutron standard source in Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS). The determined calibration factor was $k_f=3.59{\times}10^{-7}$ mSv/R.

  • We introduce the ${\kappa}_0$-proximity space as a generalization of the Efremovic-proximity space. We define a product ${\kappa}_0$-proximity and the quotient ${\kappa}_0$-proxmity and show some properties of ${\kappa}_0$-proximity space.

  • We have designed and manufactured the Earth observation camera (EOC) of multi-purpose infrared imaging system (MIRIS). MIRIS is a main payload of the STSAT-3, which will be launched in late 2012. The main objective of the EOC is to test the operation of Korean IR technology in space, so we have designed the optical and mechanical system of the EOC to fit the IR detector system. We have assembled the flight model (FM) of EOC and performed environment tests successfully. The EOC is now ready to be integrated into the satellite system waiting for operation in space, as planned.

  • 한국천문연구원은 $1\;-\;5{\mu}m$ 파장영역에서 관측 가능한 근적외선 카메라 KASINICS(Korea Astronomy and Space science Institute Near Infrared Camera System)를 개발하였다. 열적외선이 강해지는 $3{\mu}m$ 이상의 파장영역에서는 대기 중의 수증기에 의한 대기투과도가 중요해진다. 이 논문에서는 국내 천문대의 적외선 관측 조건을 알아보기 위해 한국천문연구원의 GPS 신호를 이용한 PWV(Precipitable Water Vapor) 측정 시스템을 사용하여 2006년 7월부터 2007년 8월까지의 보현산 및 소백산 상공의 월별 PWV 분포를 조사하였다. 그 결과, 국내 대기 수증기량 조건은 지표면의 이슬점온도를 이용해서 추정한 예상보다 좋았으며, 특히 가을철 및 겨울철에는 미국 Kitt Peak 천문대 상공의 조건과 비교하여 크게 다르지 않음을 확인하였다.
