  • A field study was conducted to determine the runoff loss of N and P in small scale of red pepper field plots (10% slope), consisting of three different plots with black polyethylene vinyl mulching (mulching), ridge without mulching (ridge), and flat without ridge and mulching (flat). Composted manure and urea as a basal application were applied at rates of $20MT\;ha^{-1}$ and $93kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$, respectively. Urea at $189kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$ and fused phosphate at $67kg\;P_2O_5\;ha^{-1}$ were additionally applied on June 25 with different fertilization methods, broadcast application in flat plot and hole injection in ridge and mulching plots. Plant uptake of N and P was positively correlated with their respective concentrations in surface soil: mulching > ridge > flat plots. The runoff loss by soil erosion was higher in flat plot than ridge and mulching plot with contour line. Nitrate loss by the runoff water had no significant differences among three surface management practices, but the higher average value in ridge and mulching plots than flat plot. Especially, the flat plot had no phosphate loss during summer season. This is probably due to low labile P content in surface soil of flat plot. In the summation of soil and water loss, flat plot was higher in N and P loss than ridge and mulching plot with contour line. Nevertheless, the nitrate and phosphate loss by runoff water could be more important for non-point source management because the water could meet the river easier than eroded soil because of re-deposition around slope land.

  • This study was carried out to select economic-crops according to the improvement methods of newly-reclaimed soils. Silage corn, soybean, Job's tears and sweet potato were cultivated under 6 treatments including integrated improvement plot, control plot, compost plot, subsoiling plot, phosphate plot and lime plot on the Songjeong loam from 1985 to 1988. Crop yields and soil physical properties were investigated throughout the experiment. Soil porosity in the sweet potato plots were highest. In case of cultivated years, those of 4th year were lowest. Averaged yield increasing ratios of silage corn, soybean, job`s tears and sweet potato in the integrated improvement plots were 132%, 29%, 49% and 59%, respectively. And that of 5 soil improved treatments for 4 crops were 53%, 15%, 25% and 38%, respectively. After subtraction of the total expenses of soil conditioners, the economical efficiency of soil improvements were clear in the 4 crops except the compost plot of silage corn. That of sweet potato plot was the highest.

  • Delayed stem senescence of soybean is a phenomenon of retarded leaf and stem yellowing, where plants maintain a high stem water content and remain chlorophyll in leaf and stem at maturity stage. This phenomenon was one of the most important physiological disease in Japanese soybean cultivation. The occurrence of delayed stem senescence was affected by sowing time. And the most of Japanese field, soybean seeds were sowed in June. June is the rainy season in Japan, and the soil water content of field become higher in this season. In this study, the effects of late sowing (July sowing) on the yield and the occurrence of delayed stem senescence in soybean cultivars Enrei, Tachinagaha and Ayakogane were examined from 2013 to 2015, in the experimental farm at Nihon University (Fujisawa-city, Kanagawa, Japan). The seeds of all cultivars were sowed in June (June-normal density plot) or July (July-normal density plot, July-high density plot and July-super high density plot) in field experiment. The pot experiments were carried out in 2014. In all cultivars, the yield of July-high density plot and July-super high density were higher than that of June normal density plot. And the yield of June-normal density plot was the same as that of July-normal density plot. In all cultivars, the occurrence of delayed stem senescence was increased by seeding in June sowing. And in July sowing plots, no significance difference in the occurrence of delayed stem senescence was observed among density plots. One of reason about the increasing the occurrence of delayed stem senescence in June-normal plot was the increasing of the damaged seeds by bean bugs. Add one of reason about the decreasing of the occurrence of delayed stem senescence of July plots was the decreasing of the amount of cytokinin supplied from root to top and water stress after the flowering time was improved compared with the June plot. In conclusion, the yield of Enrei, Tachinagaha and Ayakogane were not changed by changing the sowing time from June to July. In all cultivars, the occurrence of delayed stem senescence were decreasing by seeding in July.

  • Second-order rate constants ($k_{CN^-}$) have been measured for nucleophilic substitution reactions of Y-substituted phenyl benzoates (1a-r) with $CN^-$ ion in 80 mol % $H_2O$/20 mol % DMSO at $25.0{\pm}0.1^{\circ}C$. The Br${\o}$nsted-type plot is linear with ${\beta}_{1g}$ = -0.49, a typical ${\beta}_{1g}$ value for reactions reported to proceed through a concerted mechanism. Hammett plots correlated with ${\sigma}^{\circ}$ and ${\sigma}^-$ constants exhibit many scattered points. In contrast, the Yukawa-Tsuno plot for the same reaction exhibits excellent linearity with ${\rho}_Y$ = 1.37 and r = 0.34, indicating that a negative charge develops partially on the oxygen atom of the leaving aryloxide in the rate-determining step (RDS). Although two different mechanisms are plausible (i.e., a concerted mechanism and a stepwise pathway in which expulsion of the leaving group occurs at the RDS), the reaction has been concluded to proceed through a concerted mechanism on the basis of the magnitude of ${\beta}_{1g}$ and ${\rho}_Y$ values.

  • It is necessary to assess soil physical properties and crop growth treated by compaction to establish the soil management standard. This study evaluated the bulk density, strength and crop growth after subsoil compaction for sandy loam and loam on the field in Suwon, Korea. The treatments were compaction and deep tillage. Sandy loam and loam were classified to coarse soil and fine soil, respectively, depending on clay contents. In coarse soil, bulk density of compacted plot was 8~17% greater than control and deep tilled plot. The root growth was worse in compacted plot compared with control. In fine soil, plow pan was not observed in deep tilled plot with 5~19% smaller bulk density than compacted plot and control. Deep tillage improved the crop growth. The soil physical properties by compaction were dependent on clay content and crop growth limit depended on the traffic driving.

  • The second-order rate constants ($k_{OH^-}$) for the reactions of Y-substituted-phenyl diphenylphosphinates (4a-4i) with $OH^-$ in $H_2O$ at $25.0{\pm}0.1^{\circ}C$ have been measured spectrophotometrically. Comparison of $k_{OH^-}$ with $k_{EtO^-}$ (the second-order rate constants for the corresponding reactions with $EtO^-$ in ethanol) has revealed that $EtO^-$ is less reactive than $OH^-$ although the former is ca. 3.4 $pK_a$ units more basic than the latter, indicating that the reactivity of these nucleophiles is not governed by their basicity alone. The Br${\o}$nsted-type plot for the reactions of 4a-4i with $OH^-$ is linear with ${\beta}_{lg}$ = -0.36. The Hammett plot correlated with ${\sigma}^-$ constants results in a slightly better correlation than that correlated with ${\sigma}^{\circ}$ constants but exhibits many scattered points. In contrast, the Yukawa-Tsuno plot for the same reactions exhibits an excellent linear correlation with ${\rho}$ = 0.95 and r = 0.55. The r value of 0.55 implies that a negative charge develops partially on the O atom of the leaving group. Thus, the reactions of 4a-4i with $OH^-$ have been concluded to proceed through a concerted mechanism.

  • A kinetic study is reported for nucleophilic substitution reactions of 4-pyridyl X-substituted benzoates 7a-e with a series of alicyclic secondary amines in H2O. The Br${\o}$nsted-type plot for the reactions of 4-pyridyl benzoate 7c is linear with ${\beta}_{nuc}$ = 0.71. The corresponding reactions of 2-pyridyl benzoate 6, which is less reactive than 7c, resulted in also a linear Br${\o}$nsted-type plot with ${\beta}_{nuc}$ = 0.77. The fact that the more reactive 7c results in a smaller ${\beta}_{nuc}$ value appears to be in accord with the reactivity-selectivity principle. The aminolysis of 7c has been suggested to proceed through a stepwise mechanism in which breakdown of the intermediate is the rate-determining step (RDS). The Hammett plot for the reactions of 7a-e with piperidine consists of two intersecting straight lines, i.e., ${\rho}_X$ = 1.47 for substrates possessing an electron-donating group (EDG) and ${\rho}_X$ = 0.91 for those possessing an electron-withdrawing group (EWG). In contrast, the corresponding Yukawa-Tsuno plot exhibits excellent linear correlation with ${\rho}_X$ = 0.79 and r = 0.56. Thus, it has been concluded that the nonlinear Hammett plot is not due to a change in the RDS but is caused by stabilization of the ground state of the substrates possessing an EDG through resonance interaction between the EDG and the C=O bond of the substrates.

  • In the high-dimensional data, the number of variables is very larger than the number of observations. In this case, the impact of influential observations on regression coefficient estimates can be very large. Jang and Anderson-Cook (2017) suggested the LASSO influence plot. In this paper, we propose the LASSO influence plot, LASSO variable selection ranking plot, and three-dimensional LASSO influence plot as graphical methods for evaluating the impact of influential observations in high-dimensional data. With real two high-dimensional data examples, we apply these graphical methods as the regression diagnostics tools for finding influential observations. It has been found that we can obtain influential observations with by these graphical methods.

  • In the present study, a post-processing program is developed for 3D data visualization and analysis. Because the graphical user interface(GUI) of the program is based on Qt-library while all the graphic rendering is performed with OpenGL library, the program runs on not only MS Windows but also UNU and Linux systems without modifying source code. The structure of the program is designed according to the object-oriented programming(OOP) concept so that it has extensibility, reusability, and easiness compared to those by procedural programming. The program is organized as modules by classes, and these classes are made to function through inheritance and cooperation which is an important and valuable concept of object-oriented programming. The major functions realized so far which include mesh plot, contour plot, vector plot, streamline plot, and boundary plot are demonstrated and the relevant algorithms are described.
