  • In this paper, we present an color quantization method by complementing the disadvantage of K-means color quantization that is one of the well-known color quantization. We named the proposed method "octree-means" color quantization. K-means color quantization does not use all of the clusters because it initializes the centroid of clusters with random value. The proposed method complements this disadvantage by using the octree color quantization which is fast and uses the distribution of colors in image. We compare the proposed method to six well-known color quantization methods on ten test images to evaluate the performance. The experimental results show 68.29 percent of mean square error(MSE) and processing time increased by 14.34 percent compared with K-means color quantization. Therefore, the proposed method improved the K-means color quantization and perform an effective color quantization.

  • The conventional K-means algorithm is widely used in vector quantizer design and clustering analysis. Recently modified K-means algorithm has been proposed where the codevector updating step is as fallows: new codevector = current codevector + scale factor (new centroid - current codevector). This algorithm uses a fixed value for the scale factor. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm for the enhancement of learning time in fuzzy c-means a1gorithm. Experimental results show that the proposed method produces codebooks about 5 to 6 times faster than the conventional K-means algorithm with almost the same Performance.

  • Massive data are continuously produced with a data rate of over several terabytes every day. These applications need effective clustering algorithms to achieve an overall high performance computation. In this paper, we propose ancestor as cluster center based approach to clustering, the K-means algorithm using ancestor. We modify the K-means algorithm. We present a clustering architecture and a clustering algorithm that minimize of I/Os and show a performance with excellent. In our experimental performance evaluation, we present that our algorithm can improve the I/O speed and the query processing time.

  • An improved K-means document clustering method has been presented, where a concept vector is manipulated for each cluster on the basis of cosine similarity of text documents. The concept vectors are unit vectors that have been normalized on the n-dimensional sphere. Because the standard K-means method is sensitive to initial starting condition, our improvement focused on starting condition for estimating the modes of a distribution. The improved K-means clustering algorithm has been applied to a set of text documents, called Classic3, to test and prove efficiency and correctness of clustering result, and showed 7% improvements in its worst case.

  • Fast and high-quality document clustering algorithms play an important role in providing data exploration by organizing large amounts of information into a small number of meaningful clusters. Many papers have shown that the hierarchical clustering method takes good-performance, but is limited because of its quadratic time complexity. In contrast, with a large number of variables, K-means has a time complexity that is linear in the number of documents, but is thought to produce inferior clusters. In this paper, Condor system using K-Means algorithm Compares with regular method that the initial centroids have been established in advance, our method performance has been improved a lot.

  • We cluster the electricity consumption of households in A-apartment in Seoul, Korea using Hierarchical K-means clustering algorithm. The data is recorded from the advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), and we focus on the electricity consumption during evening weekdays in summer. Compare to the conventional clustering algorithms, Hierarchical K-means clustering algorithm is recently applied to the electricity usage data, and it can identify usage patterns while reducing dimension. We apply Hierarchical K-means algorithm to the AMI data, and compare the results based on the various clustering validity indexes. The results show that the electricity usage patterns are well-identified, and it is expected to be utilized as a major basis for future applications in various fields.

  • In this study. the author proposes a nonhierarchical clustering method. called the "Double K-Means Clustering", which performs clustering of multivariate observations with the following algorithm: Step I: Carry out the ordinary K-means clmitering and obtain k temporary clusters with sizes $n_1$,... , $n_k$, centroids $c_$1,..., $c_k$ and pooled covariance matrix S. $\bullet$ Step II-I: Allocate the observation x, to the cluster F if it satisfies ..... where N is the total number of observations, for -i = 1, . ,N. $\bullet$ Step II-2: Update cluster sizes $n_1$,... , $n_k$, centroids $c_$1,..., $c_k$ and pooled covariance matrix S. $\bullet$ Step II-3: Repeat Steps II-I and II-2 until the change becomes negligible. The double K-means clustering is nearly "optimal" under the mixture of k multivariate normal distributions with the common covariance matrix. Also, it is nearly affine invariant, with the data-analytic implication that variable standardizations are not that required. The method is numerically demonstrated on Fisher's iris data.

  • K-means clustering is an iterative algorithm in which items are moved among sets of clusters until the desired set is reached. K-means clustering has been widely used in many applications, such as market research, pattern analysis or recognition, image processing, etc. It can identify dense and sparse regions among data attributes or object attributes. But k-means algorithm requires many hours to get k clusters that we want, because it is more primitive, explorative. In this paper we propose a new method of k-means clustering using a center of gravity for grid-based sample. It is more fast than any traditional clustering method and maintains its accuracy.
