Long-term Application Effect of Silicate Fertilizer on Soil Silicate Storage and Rice Yield

  • Monitoring of soil fertility and crop productivity in long-term application of silicate fertilizers is necessary to use fertilizers efficiently. This study was conducted to investigate effects of continuous application of silicate fertilizer for rice cultivation from 1969 to 2014. The treatments were no silicate fertilizer treatments (N, NC, NPK, and NPKC) and silicate fertilizer treatments (N+S, NC+S, NPK+S, and NPKC+S). The 46-yr input of $2\;ton\;ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$ of silicate fertilizer increased pH 0.6 ~ 1.1 and exchangeable Ca $2.0{\sim}2.4cmol_c\;kg^{-1}$ in silicate fertilizer treatments (N+S, NC+S, NPK+S, and NPKC+S) compared with no silicate fertilizer treatments (N, NC, NPK, and NPKC) because silicate fertilizer included Ca component. Also, available silicate concentrations of silicate fertilizer treatments (N+S, NC+S, NPK+S, and NPKC+S) increased $169mg\;kg^{-1}$ compared to no silicate fertilizer treatments. In Period II ('90~'14), the mean annual Si field balance varied from 62 to $175kg\;ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$ in silicate fertilizer treatments, indicating continuous accumulation of soil Si. Silicon uptake and grain yield of rice had greater differences between N treatment and N+S treatment than other treatments. This showed that the application of silicate fertilizer had greater effect in nutrient-poor soils than in proper nutrient soils. Thus the application of silicate fertilizer led to improvement the fertility of soil and increasement of rice production for the lack of soil nutrients.

Fertilizer Use Efficiency of Taro (Colocasia esculenta Schott) and Nutrient Composition of Taro Tuber by NPK Fertilization

  • The objectives of fertilizer recommendation are to prevent the application of excessive fertilization and to produce target yields. Also, optimal fertilization is important because crop quality can be influenced by fertilization. In this study, yields and fertilizer use efficiency of Taro (Colocasia esculenta Schott) were evaluated in different level of NPK fertilization. N, P and K fertilizer application rates were 5 levels (0, 50, 100, 150, 200%) by practical fertilization ($N-P_2O_5-K_2O=180-100-150kg\;ha^{-1}$), respectively. In the N treatment, the yields of Taro tuber were about $33Mg\;ha^{-1}$ from 90 to $360kg\;ha^{-1}$ N fertilization. However, the ratio of tuber to total biomass decreased with increasing N fertilization rate. In the P and K treatments, yields of Taro tuber were the highest at $150kg\;ha^{-1}$ fertilization. Fertilizer use efficiency was decreased by increase of N and K fertilization. Crude protein of Taro tuber was the highest at practical fertilization. Sucrose content of tuber was influenced by phosphate application.

Comparison of Grain Quality of Bacterial Blight Resistant Near-isogenic Lines of Rice under Different Fertilization Levels

  • This study was conducted in 2002 and 2003 to investigate variation on rice quality associated with cooking, and eating qualities under the three different fertilizer levels, none fertilizer level($N-P_2O_{5-}K_2O=0-0-0kg/ha$), ordinary fertilizer level($N-P_2O_{5-}K_2O=1l0-45-57kg/ha$), and heavy fertilizer level($N-P_2O_{5-}K_2O=180-90-110kg/ha$). The eight resistant near-isogenic lines(NILs) for bacterial blight in rice were examined for grain appearances, several physicochemical properties, and palatability value measured by Toyo taste meter. Significant variations in NILs(V), Years(Y), and VxY interaction were recognized in grain length and palatability value under the none fertilizer cultivation, in grain width under the heavy fertilizer cultivation, and in white belly ratio under the three different fertilizer cultivations, respectively. According to increase the fertilizer application rate, variation in grain length and grain width were not significant, but grain thickness was thinner under the ordinary and heavy fertilizer cultivations than under the none fertilizer cultivation. On the other hand, white belly ratio, protein content and Mg/K ratio increased, while amylose content and palatability value lowered. Alkali spreading value lowed under the heavy fertilizer cultivation than under the none and ordinary fertilizer cultivations. Palatability value was significantly low in the line carrying XalJ than in the other lines under the ordinary fertilizer cultivations.

친환경 유기질 비료 시용이 참당귀의 생육과 수량에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Eco-Friendly Organic Fertilizer on Growth and Yield of Angelica gigas Nakai)

  • This experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of several organic compost on the growth and root yield of Angelica gigas Nakai with organic cultivation. After fertilizing the soil with organic fertilizer, the dry weight of liming fertilizer showed a slow change, while microorganism fertilizer decreased about 29% until 20 day after fertilizing. At 110 days after fertilizing, microorganism fertilizer decreased more than liming fertilizer. Liming fertilizer decomposed slowly, while microorganism fertilizer decomposed early on rapidly but gently after 20 days in decomposed rate of organic fertilizer. Dried root yields per 10a of A. gigas were not significance between 277.6kg in conventional fertilizer and 277.7kg, 280.5kg in N 1.5, N 2.0 times of microorganism fertilizer. Decursin and decursinol angelate contents in A. gigas were 9.08 ~ 9.07% from N 1.0 and N 1.5 times in liming fertilizer, and 7.94 ~ 8.12% from N 1.5 times and N 2.0 times in microorganism fertilizer, compared to 7.31% of conventional treatment.

무우, 배추생육(生育)에 대한 수종의 유기질비료(有機質肥料) 시용효과 (Effect of Organic Fertilizers Application on Radish and Cabbage Growth)

  • 1. 유기물(O.M)함량과 염기치환용량(C.E.C.)이 극히 낮은 본 시험 토양의 시험 토양 분석 결과에 의하면 기타 물질 시용에 관계없이 복비 시용이 토양 중 N.P.K 함량 모두를 증가 시켰으며 특히 N은 Peat 시용에 의하여도 현저히 증가하였고 미원 비료시용에 의하여도 약간 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 2. 식물체중 양분함량을 보면 무의 경우 N, Ca 및 Mg 함량이 지하부보다 지상부에 P는 지하부에 많이 분포함을 보였으며 각처리에 따른 양분함량 분포는 복비시용은 기타처리에 관계없이 복비 무시용구에 비하여 높은 N함량 분포를 나타냈다. 3. 배추의 경우도 역시 N.P.K성분 모두가 모든 처리에서 무처리에 비하여 높은 함량을 나타내었으며 또한 무우의 경우와 유사하게 복비시용이 무시용에 비하여 N.P.K함량이 더욱 높이는 경향이었다. 4. 무우, 배추수확량은 모든처리가 무처리에 비하여 수량을 증가시켰으나 모든 유기질 비료들의 단독효과는 미원비료 2배수준을 제외하고는 모두 복비효과보다 낮았으며 복비를 추천량과 함께 유기질 비료를 시용할 경우는 전연 반대로 모든 유기질 비료가 복비 단독 효과보다는 월등히 높았다. 5. 수량에 미치는 유기질 비료종류간의 상대적 효과는 복비 시용여부에 관계없이 다음과 같은 순서로 요약 될 수 있다. 미원 비료 ${\geq}$ Biovin > 일반퇴비 ${\geq}$ Peat

Yield and Free Sugar Contents of Burdock (Arctium lappa L.) depending on Nitrogen Levels

  • Excessive nitrogen fertilization influences crop yields and quality as well as environmental pollution. In this study, yields, nitrogen use efficiency and free sugar contents of burdock (Arctium lappa L.) were evaluated at different levels of nitrogen fertilization. Nitrogen fertilizer was applied at 5 levels (0, 50, 100, 150, 200%) based on the conventional fertilization ($N=230kg\;ha^{-1}$), and phosphate and potassium fertilizer were treated by conventional P and K fertilization ($P_2O_5-K_2O=140-210kg\;ha^{-1}$) in all plots. The root yields of burdock were the highest in N 100~150% treatment plots. Nitrogen use efficiency and nitrogen recovery decreased from over N 150% treatment. Nitrogen uptake of root was greater than that of shoot in N 50~200% treatments. Fructose contents in root were inversely proportional to the level of nitrogen fertilization. As considering nitrogen recovery and root quality, economical burdock yield was obtained in N $230kg\;ha^{-1}$.

Production of Eco-friendly Aminotosan® Fertilizer from Waste Livestock Blood using Chitosan Coagulation

  • The aim of this study was to produce Aminotosan$^{(R)}$ fertilizer using optimized chitosan coagulant from waste livestock blood. Amino-acid fertilizer was produced by pretreated livestock blood. Chitosan coagulant was aggregated with amino-acid fertilizer to produce Aminotosan$^{(R)}$. Optimized coagulation conditions were set using chitosan coagulant such as 10% citric acid and 500 ppm chitosan coagulant by analysis of CST and TTF. The efficiency of coagulation by chitosan coagulant under the optimal conditions was better than chemical coagulants. After solid/liquid separation for coagulated amino-acid fertilizer, Aminotosan$^{(R)}$ fertilizer which added eco-friendly and aesthetic functions was produced.

The Effects of Phosphorus Fertilization After Incorporation of Green Manure Crops to Jeju Volcanic Ash Soils on Potato Yields, Available Phosphate Contents in Soil, and Phosphorus Balances

  • The volcanic ash soils from the Jeju province have low available phosphate because of the high phosphate fixing power of the soils. Phosphorus fertilizerwas dressed after cultivating green manure crops and before cultivating potatoes in order to investigate potato yields, the available phosphate contents, and phosphorus balance in the soils. Green manure crops cultivated in this study were hairy vetch alone and hairy vetch and rye. During potato cultivation, four treatments were conducted in the experiments; NF (non fertilizer), P fertilizer ($N-P-K=0-25-0kg\;10a^{-1}$), NK fertilizer ($N-P-K=18-0-19kg\;10a^{-1}$), and NPK fertilizer ($N-P-K=18-25-19kg\;10a^{-1}$). There were no differences in the yields of potato stem and tuber from the cultivation plots of different green manure crops. However, in the plots with single-sown hairy vetch and mixed-sown hairy vetch and rye, the yields of potato stem and tuber were higher in the P fertilizer plot than in NF plot. The yield of tuber among the treatments with mixed-sown hairy vetch and rye was the highest in the NPK fertilizer plot. The available phosphate content in soils initially increased with time in all plots, but began to decrease gradually after Oct. 18. The available phosphate contents were high in the plots for phosphate fertilization, and the difference in available phosphate content between non-phosphorus fertilizer plots and phosphorus fertilizer plots increased with time. In the single-sown hairy vetch and mixed-sown hairy vetch and rye plot, the phosphorus balances in NF plot and NK fertilizer plot were very low, while those in the P fertilizer plot and NPK fertilizer plot were high. In conclusion, available phosphate contents in soil and the potato yields were increased by phosphorus fertilization when potatoes planted after cultivating hairy vetch and rye together, compared to hairy vetch alone.

시설재배지 염류집적 토양에 대한 추비 저감 처리가 토마토 수량 및 양분함량에 미치는 영향 (Effects of reduced additional fertilizer on tomato yield and nutrient contents in salt accumulated soil)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of reduced nitrogen (N) and potassium (K) fertigation as additional fertilizer on tomato yield and nutrient contents in excessively nutrients-accumulated soil. Shoot and root dry weights (DW), dry matter rate for shoot, root and fruit and number of fruit in both AF50 and AF100 (50 and 100% levels of additional fertilizer) treatments were increased in comparison with those in AF0 (0% level of additional fertilizer) treatment. In case of nutrient uptake by tomato, nitrogen, phosphorous (P) and potassium contents in all tomato parts (leaf, stem, root and fruit) in AF50 and AF100 treatment were lower than those in AF0 treatment. On the contrary, soluble sugar and starch contents in all tomato parts in AF50 and AF100 were higher than those in AF0 treatment. There were differences between AF0 and AF50 or AF100 in tomato growth, yield, nutrient level and contents of soluble sugar and starch. In contrast, the level and initiation point of fertigation did not significantly affect the parameters. Based on our results, the application of properly reduced level of additional fertilizer is possible to maintain the productivity of tomato and alleviate the nutrient accumulation in plastic film house soils.

벼 재배시 혼합유기질비료 시용이 질소이용율과 수량에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Mixed Organic Fertilizer Application with Rice Cultivation on Yield and Nitrogen Use Efficiency in Paddy Field)

  • 혼합유기질비료 시용 후 벼 재배시 무기태질소 함 량, 질소이용율, 수량 등을 조사하여 질소 화학비료 대체 가능성을 검토코자, 화학비료 3요소구, 혼합유기질비료 0, 100, 150% 시용구 등 5처리를 두어 2006년도에 시험을 수행한 결과는 다음과 같다. 혼합유기질비료 100% 시용구 토양 중 $NH_4-N$ 함량은 대조구에 비해 많았으며 표면수에서도 같은 경향이었다. 시험후 토양 중 Av. $P_2O_5$ 함량은 대조구에 비해 혼합유기질비료 100% 시용구에서 많았으나 Ex. K 함량은 적었다. 수도체 중 질소이용율은 혼합유기질비료 100% 시용구가 대조구에 비해 높아 질소 화학비료 대체 가능성이 있었다. 이앙 후 30일, 60일에서 경수는 혼합유기질비료 100% 시용구가 대조구 보다 많았다. 혼합유기질비료 중 질소 함량과 단백질 함량과는 정의 상관, 식미치와는 고도의 부의 상관, 완전립 비율과는 부의 상관이 있었다. 혼합유기질 비료 100% 시용구의 쌀 수량은 대조구 $4,892kg\;ha^{-1}$에 비해 4% 증가하였다. 벼 재배시 대조구의 쌀 수량과 대등한 혼합유기질비료의 시용량은 [질소 토양검정시비량 ${\div}$ 혼합유기질비료질소함량 $(g\;kg^{-1})/1,000{\times}0.93)/1,000$]으로 산출되었다.
