  • We have used multifactor dimensionality reduction (MDR) method to study genegene interaction effect of statistical model in general. But, MDR method could not be applied in the continuous data. In this paper, continuous-type data by the support vector machine (SVM) algorithm are proposed to the MDR method which provides an introduction to the technique. Also we apply the method on the identify major interaction effects of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) responsible for economic traits in a Korean cattle population.

  • In the planning stage of mobile phone development, one of the most important considerations is to select a FormFactor properly to determine the strategy and Purpose of a Product. Up to now, the FormFactor has been selected only by intuitional and qualitative methods. In this study, the Appraisal Methodology using Sensibility Adjectives of Emotion and Sensibility Engineering was presented to suggest the systematic and rational framework in the field of FormFactor selection. First, we verified the conceptual FormFactors with Axiomatic Design and classified the Sensibility Adjectives into the verified FormFactors. When the FormFactor and classified Design Parameters (DP) were given to a designer, the designer implemented the preliminary designs and they were assessed and analyzed by the survey. With these processes, we were able to select the proper designs for FormFactors which were fit for the purpose of a product. This was caused by connecting the Axiomatic Design and tile Sensibility Adjectives. This study gave the possibilities that can be spread to the selection factors, except for the FormFactor, from now on.

  • The purpose of this study is to calculate correction factors for energy dependence of a nanoDotdosimeter to measure patient's skin dose in diagnostic radiography. The correction factors were calculated by using the values of mean energy for the RQR standard radiation qualities of IEC publicated by Rosado et al. and the energy response graph of dosimeter relative X-ray on phantom calibration provided by landaur corporation. Results showed the correction factors of 1-1.33 over the tube voltage range of 40-50 kVp. Acquired correction factors are considered to be useful in the clinics for the measurement of accurate skin dose at each tube voltage.

  • The estimated decommissioning cost of nuclear research reactor is calculated by applying a unit cost factor-based engineering cost calculation method on which classification of decommissioning works fitted with the features and specifications of decommissioning objects and establishment of composition factors are based. Decommissioning cost of nuclear research reactor is composed of labor cost, equipment and materials cost. Labor cost of decommissioning costs in decommissioning works are calculated on the basis of working time consumed in decommissioning objects. In this paper, the unit cost factors and work difficulty factors which are needed to calculate the labor cost in estimating decommissioning cost of nuclear research reactor are derived and figured out.

  • Corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) is involved in the stress response and there is increasing evidence that stress influences skin disease such as hair loss. In cultured human hair follicles, CRF inhibits hair shaft elongation, induces premature regression and promotes the apoptosis of hair matrix keratinocytes. We investigated whether CRF influences the dermal papilla cells (DPC) that play pivotal roles in hair growth and cycling. Human DPCs were treated with CRF, adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) and cortisol, key stress hormones along the hypothalamic-pituitary -adrenal (HPA) axis for 1-24 h. Interestingly, CRF modulated the expression of cytokines related to hair growth (KGF, Wnt5a, $TGF{\beta}-2$, Nexin) and increased cAMP production in cultured DPCs. CRF receptors were down-regulated by negative feedback systems. Pretreatment of CRF receptor antagonists or protein kinase A (PKA) inhibitor prevented the CRF-induced modulation. Since the CRF induces proopiomelanocortin (POMC) expression through the cAMP/PKA pathway, we analyzed POMC mRNA. CRF stimulated POMC expression in cultured human DPCs, yet we were unable to detect ACTH levels by western blot. These results indicate that CRF operates within DPCs through CRF receptors along the classical CRF signaling pathway and CRF receptor antagonists could serve as potential therapeutic and cosmetic agents for stress-induced hair loss.

  • Using optimized standard methods, which were previously done by sensory tests, many factors have been analyzed and their significance were determined according to gloss and gloss-lasting capability in lipstick. Analyzing some factors we could conclude that the effective factors were the kind of wax, amount of volatile silicone oil, and stick hardness in the aspect of lipstick's gloss. And in the point of lipstick's gloss-lasting properties, vital few X's were quantity of volatile silicone oil stick hardness, and polymer contents and so on. We successfully have tried new analytical approach, 6-sigma to general property of lipstick. Furthermore this study will be a base on the prescription design in gloss-enhanced products.

  • Recently induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells are derived from somatic cells by ectopic expression of several transcription factors (reprogramming factors) using technology of somatic cell reprogramming. iPS cells are able to selfrenew and differentiate into all type of cells in the body similarly to embryonic stem cells. Because iPS cells have advantages that can avoid immune rejection after transplantation and ethical issues unlike embryonic stem cells, research on iPS has made significant progress since the first report by Yamanaka in 2006. Nevertheless of many advantages of iPS, safer methods to introduce reprogramming factors into somatic cells must be developed due to safety concerns regarding viral vectors, and safer reprogramming factors to substitute the oncogenes should be evaluated for clinical application of iPS. Here we discuss the recent progress in reprogramming factors in embryonic stem cells, oocytes, and embryos, and discuss further research for finding new, more reliable and safer reprogramming factors.

  • Recently urbanization and industrialization around the Nak-dong river watershed have lead to the regional environmental problems. In this viewpoint, we took up variables which were related to watershed environment, and found out spatial and environmental properties of the Nak-dong river using factor analysis, ANOVA test and geographic information system. The results may be summarized as follows; three common factors which were named as urban, agricultural and industrial pollutant factor extracted from statistical methods. Spatial distribution of watershed environment could be found by connection attributes of factor scores derived from factor analysis to digital map using GIS. According to the results, distribution of pollutant sources were concentrated in the main stream of the Nak-dong river and its tributaries, Kum-ho river. So it is necessary to manage the watershed environment in due consideration of environmental carrying capacity.

  • This research demonstrates the application of GIS to the selection of the waste landfill site through the case study of a urban area. The estimation factors for the suitability analysis of the waste landfill site were determined. The database was built through collection, input, and transformation of data. The recent land cover classification data and NDVI data which were obtained through processing of satellite imagery were incorporated into GIS data as estimation factors. The relative weights of importance among 2nd category estimation factors were determined by the pairwise comparison method. Also relative weights of 1st category estimation factors which are divided into the social-economical factor and the natural environmental factor were combined with those of 2nd category estimation factors. As the results of this case study, the suitability analysis was conducted in accordance with various estimation criteria. The highest suitability index was obtained in the case where we considered the relative weights of 2nd category estimation factors as different in the viewpoint which regards the social economical factor as important.

  • This paper presents the antenna factor characteristics of a calculable dipole antenna with a hybrid balun, installed above ground plane vertically and horizontally, using Method of Moments (MoM). An expression for the antenna factor is formulated using the concept of power mismatch loss. The input impedance and effective length of the antenna, which are in the formula of the antenna factor, are calculated using the MoM. The results show that the antenna factors above a ground plane are agreed with the free space antenna factors within ± 0.14 dB. The horizontal antenna factors are varied more by 0.2 dB than the vertical antenna factors.
