  • Spatial variabilities of particle size distribution of 96 samples from Hwadong SiCL and Jungdong Sl were studied by using geostatistical concepts. The measurement was made at the nodes of the regular grid consisting of 12 rows and 8 columns. Sample spacing within rows and columns was 3 and 2 meters, respectively. The results are summarized as follows. 1. Variograms of Hwadong SiCL were fitted for the linear model and those of Jungdong SL for the spherical model. 2. Variograms of properties for Hwadong and clay for Jungdong showed the pure nugget effect. Those of silt and clay for Jungdong, however, appeared the nugget effect. 3. The minimum number of samples necessary to reproduce results similar to the true mean of the 96 measured values was approximately estimated. The minimum sample sizes of silt, clay, and sand in Hwadong SiCL were 27, 13, and 6, respectively. And the minimum sample size of clay in Jungdong SL was 17. 4. The approximate number of samples required to detect the difference of 5% of the true mean with 0.95 confidence level was estimated. The resulting number of samples for silt and sand in Jungdong was 14, and 26, respectively.

  • This study focus on the restoration stone selection of break-out part based on material characteristics analysis and the conservational safety diagnosis using various nondestructive techniques for Jungdong and Banjukdong Stone Auariums. As a result, the original rocks of the stone aquariums body are porphyritic granodiorite with magnetite-series having igneous lineation, microcline phenocryst, veinlet and basic xenolith. As a result of the provenance presumption of the host rock, a rock around Gamgokri area in Nonsan City was identified the genetically same rock. Therefore, the rock is appropriate for restoration materials of the break-out part. The deterioration assessment showed that the stone aquariums were highly serious scaling, scale off and blackening. Particularly, the front face of Banjukdong stone aquarium needs reinforcement of structural crack (760mm) caused from igneous lineation of biotite. Blackening contaminants on the stone aquariums surface occurred by combining iron oxide, manganese oxide and clay mineral. Also, major factors of efflorescence contaminants were identified as calcite (Jungdong stone aquariums) and gypsum (Banjukdong stone aquariums). The physical characteristics of stone aquariums appeared that the original and new stone is third (moderately weathered) and second grade (slightly weathered), respectively. This study sets up an integrated conservation system from material analysis to restoration stone selection and conservational safety diagnosis of Jungdong and Banjukdong stone aquariums.

  • This study examines the effect of submergence on transformations of inorganic phosphorus and the relation between fractions of inorganic phosphorus and adsorbed phosphorus in Gangseo (paddy soil), Yesan (non-cultivated soil), and Jungdong soil (upland soil). The soils were submerged with glucose sol'n at $28^{\circ}C$ for 17 days. After, the soils were incubated with phosphate solution at $25^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours. The seguential fractionation of inorganic phosphorus and of iron were conducted to investigate transformations of them. Results obtained are as follows; 1. By submergence, Bray I-P were decreased from 53mgP/kg to 48mgP/kg in Gangseo, from 3mgP/kg to 1mgP/kg in Yesan, and from 120mgP/kg to 56mgP/kg in Jungdong soil. 2. $NH_4F$ extractable P was dominant fraction of adsorbed P. It was transformed into NaOH extractable P by submergence in Jungdong soil. 3. Dithionite-citrate-bicarbonate extractable iron (crystalline Fe) was transformed to oxalate extractable iron (amorphous Fe) by submergence in Yesan soil.

  • Although quality metrics for 2D video quality assessment have been proposed, the quality models on stereoscopic video have not been widely studied. In this paper, a new objective video quality metric for s tereoscopic video is proposed. The proposed algorithm consider three factors to evaluate stereoscopic video quality: blocking artifact, blurring artifact, and the difference between left and right view of stereoscopic vide o. The results show that the proposed algorithm has a higher correlation with DMOS than the others.

  • Spatial variability of sand, silt, and clay contents on Hwadong SiCL and Jungdong SL was studied by using geostatistical concept. The measurements were made within a $33{\times}14m^2$ area at the nodes of 2 by 2m grids. The validity of all assumptions (stationarity, variogram models, etc.) was proved by Jack-knifing procedure and frequency distribution performed on the original data grids. The variogram of sand content on Hwadong SiCL was different from the linear model and that of clay content of Jungdong SL the linear and the spherical model in calculation of both kriged values and kriged variances in identification of its choice for simplicity.

  • Severe congestion is happening at urban freeway off-ramps in Seoul. Major causes of congestion at off-ramps are a shortage of capacity and inefficient signal operations at the downstream intersection at off-ramps. It is necessary to control congestion by improving design or operations in the downstream intersection. In this study, the authors analyzed the case of the Jungdong interchange that was improved for design in the downstream intersection. When a freeway and an arterial road cross, diamond interchanges are usually selected with a single-point urban interchange (SPUI) as an alternative. To compare the effectiveness of a diamond interchange with a SPUI, the authors applied these two configurations to the Jungdong interchange using a simulation. The result of the analysis shows that congestion at off-ramps in diamond interchanges can be reduced by improving signal operations such as the application of "4 phase with overlaps" and that diamond interchanges are more efficient than a SPUI with a frontage road. Efficient operation of the downstream intersection by these findings can minimize congestion of not only the downstream intersection but also the freeway mainline.

  • This study examines the effect of submergence on phosphorus adsorption characteristics in Gangseo(paddy soil), Yesan(non-cultivated soil), and Jungdong soil(upland soil). The soils were submerged with glucose sol'n at $28^{\circ}C$ for 17 days. After the submergence, the phosphorus adsorption was conducted at three temperatures(5, 25 and $45^{\circ}C$). The phosphorus adsorption maximum($X_m$) and the equilibrium constant(K) were obtained by Langmuir adsorption isotherm, and the heat of adsorption(${\Delta}H$) was calculated by van't Hoff's equiation. Results obtained are as follows ; 1. The amounts of adsorbed P were increased with temperature, but the effects of temperature on rate of P adsorption were very small in all three soils. 2. By submergence, $X_m$ were increased from 500mg P/kg to 850mg P/kg in Gangseo soil, from 1,850mg P/kg to 3,300mg P/kg in Yesan soil, and from 310mg P/kg to 670mg P/kg in Jungdong soil. But the effects of temperature on $X_m$ were very small in all three soils. 3. Submergence decreased K for Gangseo and Yesan soils, but increased for Jungdong soil. Whereas K were increased with temperature in all three soils. 4. By submergence, ${\Delta}H$ for Gangseo soil was greatly increased (from 2.2 Kcal/mole to 3.5 Kcal/mole), whereas that for Yesan soil changed little (from 5.7 Kcal/mole to 5.5 Kcal/mole). It was 4.4 Kcal/mole in submerged Jungdong soil.

  • Many recent theoretical developments in the field of machine learning and control have rapidly expanded its relevance to a wide variety of applications. In particular, a variety of portfolio optimization problems have recently been considered as a promising application domain for machine learning and control methods. In highly uncertain and stochastic environments, portfolio optimization can be formulated as optimal decision-making problems, and for these types of problems, approaches based on probabilistic machine learning and control methods are particularly pertinent. In this paper, we consider probabilistic machine learning and control based solutions to a couple of portfolio optimization problems. Simulation results show that these solutions work well when applied to real financial market data.
