Testicular Toxicity of 2-Bromopropane in Male Sprague-Dawley Rats (2-Bromopropane의 수컷 랫트를 이용한 고환 독성시험)

  • 2-Bromopropane, important industrial chemical, specially in electronic industry at Yangsan in Korea has been reported to cause amenorrhea for female and azoospermia, oligozoospermia or reduced sperm motility for male. 2-BP was investigated through 21 days of repeated dose in male Sprague-Dawley rats. The dose levels per body weight were 0 (control), 250,500 and 1,000 mg/kg. 2-BP dissolved in vehicle olive oil was injected into the intraperitoneum 6 times per week for 3 weeks, but 1,000 mg/kg dose group was 2 weeks because of serious illness. Male rats showed significant decreases in body weight and right and left testis showed typical weight losses depending on the 2-BP. The number of white blood cell and red blood cell , percentage of monocytes, and hemoglobin decreased significantly in high dose (P< 0.05). Red cell volume distribution width increased significantly in the high dose (P< 0.05). Histopathological findings of testes showed a decrease of spermatogenic cells, exfoliation of spermatid and spermatocyte, vacuolization of Sertoli cells and hyperplasia of Leydig cells. Protein band density between 113,000 dalton ($\beta$-galactosidase) and 53,900 dalton (ovalbumin) has decreased in 250 mg/kg dose group, but it has gradually increased to the higher density in 1,000 mg/kg dose group than in control group.

  • The diagnostic requirements were suggested and explained regarding the systems of differentiation of syptoms and signs in the second year study of standardization and unification of the terms and conditions used for diagnosis in oriental medicine. The systems were as follows : -differential diagnosis according to condition of body fluid, differentiation of syndromes according to the state of qi and blood, differential diagnosis according to reletive excessiveness or deficiency of yin and yang(氣血陰陽津液辨證) -differentiation of diseases according to pathological changes of the viscera and their interrelation(臟腑辨證) -analysing and differentiating of febrile diseases in accordance with the theory of the six channels(傷寒辨證) The individual diagnosis pattern was arranged by the diagnostic requirements in the following odor : another name(異名), notion of diagnosis parrern(證候槪念), index of differentiation of syptoms and sings(辨證指標), the main point of diagnosis(診斷要點), analysis of diagnosis pattern(證候分析), discrimination of diagnosis pattern(證候鑑別), a wayof curing a diseases(治法), prescription(處方) , herbs in common use(常用藥物), dieases appearing the diagnosis pattern(常見疾病), documents(文獻調査).   • PSA and VSA processes have been used broadly to produce oxygen from ambient air in midium- or small-sized plants. PSA and VSA processes are the separation methods which use difference of amount adsorbed as pressure is changed periodically, but they have the differences in pressurization and regeneration. In this study, the performance of 6-step PSA process was compared with that of 5-step VSA process with respect to purity and recovery. In addition, the effects of each step (pressurization step, adsorption step, and pressure equalization step) on purity and recovery were investigated. As a result, the VSA process using zeolite 10X showed better performance than the zeolite 5A PSA and zeolite 13X VSA process in comparison with purity, recovery and productivity. And it was enough to apply the vacuum pressure of 200 torr for the VSA, which produced over 90% oxygen with 70% recovery.

  • Choo-Joo(鄒澍;1790-1844) was the medicine scholar who lived in the late peroid of the Chung-Dynasty and wrote "Bon-Kyung-So-Jeung(本經疏證)", "Bon-kyung-Sok-So(本經續疏)", "Bon-Kyng-Seo-So-Yo(本經序疏要)". In the books mentioned above, He annotated the chief effectiveness of herbal medicine(本草) which had been presented on "Shin-Nong-Bon-Cho-Kyung(神農本草經)" and "Myoung-Eui-Byul-Lok(名醫別錄)". He defined medical action of 315 herb-items with the many theories of various scholars. Scholars whom Choo-Joo has qoutated belong to the school of study of Chinese classics, and they have regarded "Hwang-Je-Nae-Kyung(黃帝內經)", "Shin-Nong-Bon-Cho-Kyung(神農本草經)" and "Sang-Han-Lon(傷寒論)" as great important cannon and have lived during the Myoung Chung Dynasty. The distinctive character of Choo-Joo belongs to similar academic traditions. It seems that he was appected mainly by "Bon-Cho-Gang-Mok(本草綱目)" written by Lee-Si-Jin(李時珍), Mok-Jung-Soon(繆仲淳)'s "Sin-Nonng-Bon-Cho-Kyung-So(神農本草經疏)", You-Yak-Guem(劉若金)'s "Bon-Cho-Sul(本草述)" and Yang-Si-Tae(楊時泰)'s "Bon-Cho-Sul-Gu-Won(本草述鉤元)". He contributed in two big sides. First, Choo-Joo(鄒澍) have achieved much contribution in biliographical study of Chinese classics(考證學). He analyzed the medical theory of herb-medicine, combining with "Nae-Kyung(內經)", "Sang-Han-Lon(傷寒論)" and many theory of various scholars in order to make research on the chief effectiveness that had been presented in "Shin-Nong-Bon-Cho-Kyung(神農本草經)". Therefore the practical application of medical theory and term which had been represented on classics were offered. Secondary, Choo-joo did great accomplishment in pharmacology. The point of his theory was grasping the effect of a medicine through distinctive one beyond general feature. He set up standards that grasp distintive feature as form, color, energy and taste, place of production and temper. And on the basis of these standards he investigated distinctive feature on various fields, then he induced 'the Uem-Yang-0-Haeng Theory(陰陽五行說)' from distictions. According to the these method of classification, form(形) stand for the resultant shape of herbal function, color(色) represent the active direction of herb, energy and taste(氣味) imply the ultimate active function of herb, the place of production(産地) and the period of occurrence(發生時期) symbolize symptoms. When he applied these method to seek for effetiveness, he regarded the field which revealed most representative feature as of great importance, and Combining remained distinctions with one another, he determined more accurate medicinal value. These method of obsevation solved contradiction which occured by equaly appling all medical herbs for the regular standard. The most important theory that represented in Choo-Joo(鄒澍) is to induce and to certify the distintive feature of herb into the 'Uem-Yang-0-Haeng Theory'. That is, concluded as "spring(生), growing(長), change(化), collecting(收) and storing(藏)". As the results of these studies, he made clear the action of medicine more concretly and made 'the Uem-Yang-0-Haeng Theory(陰陽五行說)' more concret and actual for applying. And he contrbuted to establish the standard for grasping the effect of medicines.

Effect of Banhabakchulchunma-tang on the Hepatic, Splenic and Cardiac Toxicity induced by Doxorubicin (반하백출천마탕(半夏白朮天麻湯)이 Doxorubicin에 의해 유발(誘發)된 독성(毒性)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • Object : The effect of Banhabakchulchunma-tang extracts on the hepatic, splenic and cardiac toxicity induced by Doxorubicin administration(Three injection protocol) were monitored using male ICR mice. Methods : The changes of body weight, clinical signs, necropsy findings and organ weights of liver, spleen and heart were observed with blood GOT and GPT levels. Results : 1. Decrease of body weight and The degrees of anorexia, ataxia and dehydration after Doxorubicin treatment were dose-dependently inhibited by Banhabakchulchunma-tang extracts. 2. Increase of absolute and relative liver and heart weight observed in Doxorubicin treatment group were dose-dependently inhibited by Banhabakchulchunma-tang extracts. In addition, the degrees of liver congestion necrotic spot and the degrees of heart congestion enlargement were dose-dependently decreased after Banhabakchulchunma-tang extracts dosing groups compared to that of doxorubicin treatment group. It is also demonstrated that elevated serum GOT and GPT levels in doxorubicin treatment group were significantly decreased in Banhabakchulchunma-tang extracts dosing groups. 3. Decrease of absolute and relative spleen weight observed in doxorubicin treatment group were dose-dependently inhibited by Banhabakchulchunma-tang extracts. In addition, the degrees of splenic atrophy were significantly and dose-dependently decreased after Banhabakchulchunma-tang extracts dosing groups compared to that of doxorubicin treatment group. Conclusion : the toxicity of doxorubicin treatment(decrease of body weights, clinical signs such as anorexia, ataxia and dehydration, changes of organ weights of liver, spleen and heart, elevation of serum GOT and GPT levels) was inhibited and/or prevented by Banhabakchulchunma-tang extracts. According to these results, it is considered that Banhabakchulchunma-tang has some preventive effect against to doxorubicin induced toxicity.

  • In this study, the kinds of Dog Meat Cooking, the frequency of them, the ingredients, and the variation of recipes written in the books from 1670 to 1943 in Korea were studied. 1. There were 14 Dog Meat recipes in the literature. And the number dishes is 50. Among these, Jeung (steaming in seasoning:(蒸) had the highest frequency, 20(40%), which has played a main role. Kaeng or Tang (soup:(羹,湯) has appeared 12 times (24%) and Eikin koki dasi chinun bup (steaming twice), Kujang(steaming with white onions:((狗醬) 4 times (8%), respectively. 2. The number of sesonings was 22, the major ones according to the frequencies were oil and soy sauce(34.7%), sesame-seed powder(32.6%), pepper(30.4%), vinegar(30.4%), soy sauce (23.9%), red pepper powder(21.7%(, sesame-seed oil(19.5%), Mancho powder(19.5%), and Chuncho powder(19.5%). 3. Five ingradients were found, among which onion was most widely used(28.2%), Parsley(17.3%), Kyeyun(8.6%), leek(2.1%), and walnut(2.1%) have also appeared.

Effects of Water Extracts of Persimmon Leaves to Cadmium Toxicity in Rats by Inhalation Exposure (시엽 추출물이 카드뮴에 흡입폭로된 랫드의 독성에 미치는 영향)

  • Experimental animals were divided into 5 groups; normal, cadmium control, and 3 experimental groups. Cadmium control and experimental groups were exposed to 1 mg/㎥ of cadmium aerosol in air by inhalation exposure for 6 hours/day, 5 days/week during 4 weeks. Dosages of 20, 40, and 80mg/kg of extracts of persimmon leaves were intraperitoneally injected to experimental groups respectively and several toxicological parameters and induction of metallothionein were measured from the rats that inhaled cadmium aerosol in air. The results of this study were as follows. Cadmium concentration that cadmium control and experimental groups were inhaled was 0.980±0.061 mg/㎥. Mass median diameter of cadmium aerosol for inhalation exposure was 4.93±0.483㎛. Cadmium content of normal group in lung was 0.088㎍/g and the highest cadmium content in lung, 55.492㎍/g was from 80mg/kg dose group. Cadmium concentration of normal group in blood was 0.348㎍/100㎖ and the highest cadmium concentration in blood, 2.642㎍/100㎖ was from cadmium control. Cadmium concentration of normal group in liver was 0.010㎍/g and the highest cadmium concentration in liver, 31.100㎍/g was from 20mg/kg dose group. Cadmium concentration of normal group in kidney was 0.030㎍/g and the highest cadmium concentration in kidney, 2.526㎍/g was from cadmium control. Cadmium concentration of normal group in intestine was O.064㎍/g and the highest cadmium concentration in intestine, 0.300㎍/g was from 80mg/kg dose group. The highest cadmium concentration in urine by week was 6.080㎍/day from 20mg/kg dose group in the fouth week and the highest cadmium concentration in feces by week was 341.731㎍/day from 20mg/kg dose group in the fouth week. Metallothionein concentration of normal group in lung was 5.769㎍/g and the highest in lung, 30.986㎍/g was from 80mg/kg dose group. Metallothionein concentration of normal group in liver was 38.856㎍/g and the highest in liver, 169.378㎍/g was from 40mg/kg dose group. Metallothionein concentration of normal group in kidney was 22.228㎍/g and the highest in kidney, 47.898㎍/g was from 80mg/kg dose group. Metallothionein concentration of normal group in intestine was 2.170㎍/g and the highest in intestine, 13.642㎍/g was from 80mg dose group.

Determination of TRS-398 Quality Factors for Cs-137 Gamma Rays in Reference Dosimetry (Cs-137 감마선의 선량측정을 위한 TRS-398 선질인자 결정에 관한 연구)

  • The Cs-137 irradiator is widely used to irradiate biological samples for radiobiological research. To obtain the accurate outcomes, correct measurements of the delivered absorbed dose to a sample is important. The IAEA protocols such as TRS-277 and TRS-398 were recommended for the Cs-137 reference dosimetry. However in TRS-398 protocol, currently known as the most practical dosimetry protocol, the quality factor ($k_{Q,Q_0}$) for Cs-137 gamma rays is not suggested. Therefore, the use of TRS-398 protocol is currently unavailable for the Cs-137 dosimetry directly. The calculation method previously introduced for high energy photon beams in radiotherapy was used for deriving the Cs-137 beam qualities ($k_{Q,Q_0}$) for the 15 commercially available farmer type ionization chambers in this study. In conclusion, $k_{Q,Q_0}$ values were ranged from 0.998 to 1.002 for Cs-137 gamma rays. These results can be used as the reference and dosimeter calibrations for Cs-137 gamma rays in the future radiobiological researches.

Study on OSPF Routing Cost Functions for Wireless Environments (무선 환경을 고려한 OSPF 라우팅 비용함수 연구)

  • Recently, in network communication environments, it is changing very fast from wired to wireless. The open shortest path firtst (OSPF), one of link state routing protocols, mainly used in wired networks, is the routing method to select optimal traffic path as identifying the link state of neighbor routers. The traditional OSPF cost functions performs with first fixed cost permanently, unless the router link is changed. However, in wireless networks, the performance of links show big difference by other environment factors. The bit error rate (BER), a parameter which can quite affect link state in wireless networks, is not considered in the traditional OSPF cost functions. Only a link bandwidth is considered in the traditional OSPF cost functions. In this paper, we verify the various parameters which can affect link performance, whether it is permissible to use as the parameter of proposed cost functions. To propose new cost functions, we use the effective bandwidth. This bandwidth is calculated by proposed formula using the BER of the network link and link bandwidth. As applied by the proposed triggering condition, the calculated effective bandwidth decrease the unstable of network by generating less link state update messages in wireless networks that frequently changes the link state. Simulation results show that the proposed cost functions significantly outperforms the traditional cost functions in wireless networks in terms of the services of VoIP and data transmission.

Studies on the Grain Quality Characteristics of Rice Transgenic Lines (벼 형질전환계통의 미질특성에 대한 고찰)

  • Selected 11 rice transgenic lines, through preliminary yield trials on 32 lines, were evaluated on important agronomic traits as well as grain quality by conducting replicated yield trials having three replication plots. Japonica recipients, Nipponbare, Nagdongbyeo, and Dongjinbyeo, were the recipients of 7 transformed genes, which were putatively related with high yield, abiotic stress tolerance, and disease resistance. To estimate the degrees of deviations from the wild types, 11 traits of transgenic lines, relating with grain quality were evaluated and subjected to multivariate analyses. Principal coordinate and clustering analyses did not support collection manners of transgenic lines in terms of the genes transformed as well as the genetic background. Meanwhile, some transgenic lines would be acceptable due to their over-all performances were similar to their wild types, it was hardly possible to declare any transgenic line, which adhered closely to the commercial profits of wild type. Thereby, with considerations on the demanding resources in establishing rice transgenic lines having market competitiveness, it was speculated that proper application of breeding strategies would be crucial factor for the efficiency of developing prospective rice transgenic lines.
