Energy and Air Quality Benefits of DCV with Wireless Sensor Network in Underground Parking Lots

  • This study measured and compared the variation of ventilation rate and fan energy consumption according to various control strategies after installing wireless sensor-based pilot ventilation system in order to verify the applicability of demand-controlled ventilation (DCV) strategy that was efficient ventilation control strategy for underground parking lot. The underground parking lot pilot ventilation system controlled the ventilation rate by directly or indirectly tracking the traffic load in real-time after sensing data, using vehicle detection sensors and carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) sensor. The ventilation system has operated for 9 hours per a day. It responded real-time data every 10 minutes, providing ventilation rate in conformance with the input traffic load or contaminant level at that time. A ventilation rate of pilot ventilation system can be controlled at 8 levels. The reason is that a ventilation unit consists of 8 high-speed nozzle jet fans. This study proposed vehicle detection sensor based demand-controlled ventilation (VDS-DCV) strategy that would accurately trace direct traffic load and CO sensor based demand-controlled ventilation (CO-DCV) strategy that would indirectly estimate traffic load through the concentration of contaminants. In order to apply DCV strategy based on real-time traffic load, the minimum required ventilation rate per a single vehicle was applied. It was derived through the design ventilation rate and total parking capacity in the underground parking lot. This is because current ventilation standard established per unit floor area or unit volume of the space made it difficult to apply DCV strategy according to the real-time variation of traffic load. According to the results in this study, two DCV strategies in the underground parking lot are considered to be a good alternative approach that satisfies both energy saving and healthy indoor environment in comparison with the conventional control strategies.

A New Blade Profile for Bidirectional Flow Properly Applicable to a Two-stage Jet Fan

  • A reversible axial flow fan called jet fan has been widely used for longitudinal ventilation in road tunnels to secure a safe and comfortable environment cost-effectively. As shifting the flow direction is usually made by only switching the rotational direction of an electric motor due to heavy duty, rotor blades having identical aerodynamic performance for bidirectional flow should be necessary. However, such aerodynamically desirable blades haven't been developed sufficiently, since most of the related studies have been done from the viewpoint of unidirectional flow. In the present paper, we demonstrate a method to profile the blade section suitable for bidirectional flow, which is validated by studying the aerodynamic performances of rotor blades of a two-stage jet fan experimentally and numerically.

터널내 자연환기력(NVP) 적용방안 연구 (A study on applications of the natural ventilation pressure(NVP) in local tunnels)

  • 터널내의 NVP(자연환기력)은 환기 및 방재시스템 설계시 중요성에도 불구하고, 측정 및 정량화의 어려움으로 인해 관련 연구가 극히 제한적이었다. 본 연구에서는 터널 환기시스템의 최적 설계를 위하여 지형 및 기상학적 자료를 이용한 국내 터널내 작용하는 NVP을 정량화함으로써 궁극적으로는 정량화 및 적용 설계지침의 마련을 목적으로 하였다. 국내 주요 노선상의 22개 터널을 분석대상으로 하였다. 기상자료에 기초한 NVP의 범위는 20~140 Pa이며, 지형자료에 기초한 경우는 20~200 Pa로 추정되었다. 터널내 제트팬의 대당 승압력이 10~15 Pa인 점을 감안하면, NVP는 제트팬 1대 이상의 영향력을 가지고 있음을 의미하므로 터널의 경제적이고 안전한 설계를 위해서는 NVP의 정량화 및 적용이 반드시 필요함을 알 수 있다. NVP의 크기 결정에 영향을 미치는 변수중, 터널 입출구 갱구사이의 기압차가 가장 중요한 변수이며 기여도는 평균 61%, 그리고 외풍에 의한 갱구면 작용 압력이 22%, 공기 밀도차에 의한 굴뚝효과가 17%의 기여도를 보인다.

도로터널 화재시 차량의 항력계수가 제연용 제연팬에 미치는 영향에 대한 해석적 연구 (A numerical study on effects of drag coefficient of vehicle on jet fans in case of fire in road tunnels)

  • 도로터널에서는 환기 및 제연을 목적으로 제연펜을 설치하고 있다. 제연펜 용량(제트팬 댓수)은 환기저항 및 승압력이 평형이 되는 상태에서 결정되게 된다. 터널에 운행중이거나 정지된 차량에 의한 승압력 및 저항력은 차량의 항력계수에 영향을 받게 된다. 터널에서의 항력계수는 슬립스트림 효과(또는 shadow effect)와 폐색효과에 영향을 받게 되며, 환기팬 및 제연팬 산정시 이와 같은 효과를 적절히 고려하지 못하고 있는 실정으로 교통 환기력를 과대평가하고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 화재시 차량의 차간간격을 반영한 항력계수와 등가저항면적을 산정하기 위해서 터널에 실제로 차량이 정차하는 조건으로 모델링하여 수치해석을 통해 항력계수를 검토하였다. 본 연구 결과, 항력계수에 대형차량 혼입률이 미치는 영향은 명확하지 않으며, 등가저항면적은 현행 도로설계편람기준에 대비 약 86%, 또 구 기준인 한국도로공사 환기설계기준 대비 62.2%수준으로 감소하는 것으로 분석되었다.

지하주차장 내부 일산화탄소 가스 분포의 전산 해석적 평가 (Numerical Evaluation of CO Gas Distribution in Underground Parking Lot)

  • Numerical estimation for concentration of mono-carbon oxygen (CO) gas inside an underground parking lot with auxiliary jet fans for enhancement of ventilation is carried out by using a commercial program. Main interest lies on the diagnosis of the present ventilation system including position and selection of auxiliarly fans in addition to main suppliers and exhausts. Details of both flows and concentration of CO gas that is most important component among car exhaust gases are illustrated in this investigation and those are presented for engineering construction of an underground parking pool. Prediction data of computational work is also validated by real measurements of concentration of CO gas.

기관 협착 환자에서 고빈도 제트 환기법응 이용한 기관 성형술 (Tracheal Reconstruction with High Frequency Jet Ventilation in Patients of Tracheal Stenosis)

  • The patients with tracheal stenosis have become more increasing in recent due to the increased use of tracheostomy and assisted ventilation Anesthetic management during tracheal reconstruction is a concern to the anesthetist and the surgeon, who must share the airway as a operation field and at the same time provide good gas exchange. Multiple technique such as the tube ventilation system or C \ulcornerP bypass method have been recommended to achieve this goals. However, these methods have disadvantages of poor surgical exposure and hemorrhagic complication from using C \ulcornerP bypass The technique for HFJV was first described for bronchoscopy, and it involves positive-pressure breathing with high flow[40 \ulcorner60L/min] of oxygen This flow is directed to a semirigid catheter inserted in the endotracheal tube and the tracheal reconstruction can be done without interruption. From Dec. 1986 to July 1990 we have experienced 6 patients of tracheal stenosis necessitating circumferential resection and end to end anastomosis; 5 patients with tracheal stenosis following cuffed tracheostomy or intubation, a patient with tracheal stenosis due to invasive thyroid cancer. The specific advantages during tracheal reconstruction are unobstructed field during surgical reconstruction and good gas exchange through the procedure.

압축공기를 이용한 용접흄 제어용 용접면(JASM)의 개발 (Development of a jet air supplying welding mask for controlling welding fumes)

  • Controlling the over-exposure of welding fumes is not an easy problem because neither general nor local exhaust ventilation systems could be successfully applied. A jet air supplying welding mask was development to reduce the exposure level of welding fumes. The jet airs tream pushes the welding fumes away from the breathing zone by using the frictional characteristic of jet. Laboratory experiments were conducted to optimize the efficiency of controlling welding fumes. Thereafter, its performance was tested in a laboratory and an industrial field. The efficiencies of reducing the welding fume exposure were about 90% and 80% in a laboratory and an industrial field, respectively. Additionally, it resulted in elimination of heat inside the mask and enhancement of clear visuality.

Long Jet Monitor의 소화수 분사 거리에 대한 유동 해석적 연구 (A Study of Computational Fluid Dynamics Analysis for the Water Spray Distance of Long Jet Monitor)

  • Currently, the sprinkler method is widely used as an initial suppression method in existing firefighting systems. However, this method can cause significant damage to both equipment and facilities in the hydration area. To minimize this damage, fire extinguishing monitors are being developed that can spray fire extinguishing water directly at the point of fire. These monitors are installed on the top floor of the ship, such as the Living Quarter and Ventilation System. While conventional fire extinguishing monitors focus on lightweight research with a short spray port and require a spray distance of about 40 to 45m, recent developments necessitate a longer spray port, similar to a water cannon, requiring a spray distance of about 70 to 75m. This study aims to predict the injection distance of both the existing ship-installed fire extinguisher and the long spray port fire extinguisher through hydrodynamic computer analysis, and to determine whether the injection distance has increased.
