  • Experiments are performed to investigate the detailed structure of underexpanded twin jet impinging on a perpendicular flat plate. The major parameters, such as nozzle operating pressure and nozzle spacing, are varied to create different jet flow fields resulted from the complicated interactions of the twin jets. From the surface pressure measurements and shadowgraphs taken by schlieren optical system, the jet structure is strongly dependent on the nozzle operation pressure and the spacing. The results obtained show that the closer nozzle spacing may induce to decrease the diameter of the Mach disk within the first shock cell in the underexpanded twin jet. With the increasing nozzle operating pressure and decreasing the nozzle spacing, a new shock wave appears at the entrainment region between the two jets, due to the enhancement of mixing effect of the both jets. The closer nozzle spacing makes the overall impinging pressure level higher, while severe pressure oscillation along the axis of symmetry. Furthermore it is recommended the wider spacing to obtain higher thrust under the present experimental conditions.

  • Recently, the demand for pollution-free demolition work of old reinforced concrete and steel structure has rapidly increased as the redevelopment of urban area has been accelerated. This study deals with linear shape charges for explosive jet cutting on steel structure. We have tested material and shape of steel structure, characteristics of thickness and strength, shape of linear shape charges, type of shape charges, cumulative charges, type of liner, stand-off distance, detonation method. effect of sound and vibration by air blast in explosive jet cutting method. So, We developed linear shape charges in order to take advantage of optimum explosive jet cutting condition. Shape charges were made of PETN explosives. We obtained the experimental formula to decide the amount of explosive needed for thickness of steel structure plate. There are prospects for application of the explosion curving technology under the open space conditions for dismantling the steel structure and steel bridge, scrapped old boats, which are going out of service.

  • The supersonic swirl jet is being extensively used in many diverse fields of industrial processes since those lead to more improved performance, compared with the conventional supersonic no swirl jet. In the present study, an experiment is carried out to investigate the effect of annular swirl jet on the supersonic dual coaxial jet. A convergent-divergent nozzle with a design Mach number of 1.5 is used for the supersonic primary jet, and the sonic nozzles with four tangential inlets are used to make the secondary swirl jet. The primary jet pressure ratio is varied in the range from 3.0 to 7.0 and the outer annular jet pressure ratio is from 1.0 to 4.0. The interactions between the annular swirl and the inner supersonic jet are quantified by the pitot impact and static pressure measurements and visualized by using the Schlieren optical method. The results show that annular swirl jet alters the shock structure and impact pressure distributions compared with no swirl jet.

  • The flow characteristics of synthetic jet depending on rectangular and circular jet exit configuration are investigated using numerical computation with cross flow. In rectangular slot, synthetic jet generates the strong vortex but supplies fewer momentum and effectiveness of flow control is reduced along flow direction. In circular slot, regular vortex is formed from slot center to end. It affects the wider region than rectangular slot. The distribution of wall shear stress is considered in order to indicate the effectiveness of flow control device for flow separation delay. Consequently, circular slot is a more suitable candidate for delaying flow separation. In order to derive the optimal shape of a circular slot exit, hole gap and diameter that affect the flow structure and flow control were analyzed. As a result, consider the hole diameter and gap of circular slot exit design, effectiveness of the flow control can be increased.

  • The flow structure and heat transfer characteristics of a turbulent buoyant jet were investigated experimentally. The instantaneous temperature and velocity fields in the near field were measured using a two-frame PIV and PLIF techniques. A thin light sheet illuminated a two-dimensional cross section of the buoyant jet in which Rhodamine B was added as a fluorescent dye. The intensity variations of LIF signal from Rhodamine B molecules scattered by the laser light were captured by a CCD camera after passing an optical filter. By ensemble averaging the instantaneous temperature and velocity fields, the mean temperature and velocity fields as well as the spatial distributions of turbulent statistics were obtained. The results show the flow structure and convective heat transfer of the developing shear layer in the near field.

  • The present study has focused on numerical investigation on the flame structure, flame lift-off and stabilization in the partially premixed turbulent lifted jet flames. Since the lifted jet flames have the partially premixed nature in the flow region between nozzle exit and flame base, level set approach is applied to simulate the partially premixed turbulent lifted jet flames for various fuel jet velocities and co-flow velocities. The flame stabilization mechanism and the flame structure near flame base are presented in detail. The predicted lift-off heights are compared with the measured ones.

  • In this study, the fabrics were woven with worsted grams of Nm 2/72 and the structure of 5 harness satin on rapier and air-jet loom with different weft insertion mechanism and then fabrics were finished in the same processes. Also the physical properties were measured with KES-FB system and discussed with the characteristics of looms for comparing the difference of physical properties of the worsted fabrics which were woven with two different looms under the same structure. Pot shearing and compression properties, then showed similar behavior and the fabric finishing processes were seemed to affect much more than the difference of the loom types. For the surface roughness, the rapier fabrics showed higher irregularity than the air-jet fabrics.

  • A jet plasmoid model for 3C.449 has been constructed by introducing a plasma.ejecting black hole orbiting around the center of its parent cD galaxy. We examined the characteristics of the jet trajectory by varying the values of (1) orbiting radius and velocity of the black hole, (2) plasma ejection velocity, (3) size, mass and space velocity of the parent galaxy, (4) size of the galactic core and (5) the density of the intergalactic medium. In our model calculation the effect of the gravity by the parent galaxy and the ram pressure by the intergalactic medium have been taken in account. It is found that our dynamical model accounts reasonably well for the observed structure of 3C449. Our proposed model suggests that the buoyancy force near the galactic center plays an important role in the formation of the curved structure of the radio jet.
