The PSP(pressure sensitive paint) technique has recently received a large attention as a new revolutionary optical method to measure absolute pressure distribution on a model surface. The PSP technique can be applied to quantitatively investigate flow structure using a CCD camera and image processing technique. In the static calibration, the luminescent intensity of PSP coatings was measured from 0kPa to 11kPa with 0.5, 1, 2kPa increments. In this study, the low-pressure PSP technique was applied to an oblique impinging jet to measure pressure field variations on the impingement plate with varying angle of an oblique jet. The flow structure over the impingement plate was visualized using a surface tracing method. As a result, the detail pressure field distributions of the oblique low-speed impinging jet were visualized effectively using the PSP technique.
This paper experimentally investigates the characteristics of dual coaxial jet issuing from inner supersonic nozzle and four kinds of outer converging nozzle of 40, 50, $60^{\circ}$ and $70^{\circ}$ in outer ejection angle. The pressure ratio of the stagnation to the exit ambient pressures in the inner supersonic nozzle of constant expansion rate is 7.5, which is corresponded to the condition of a slightly underexpanded, and that of outer nozzle is 4.0. Flow visualizations by using of shadowgraph method, impact pressure and centerline static pressure measurements are presented. It is found that the jet structure is changed significantly by the variation of outer nozzle ejection angle. Impact pressure level is lower and undulation of static pressure is higher, as the injection angle of outer jet increases.
Construction machinery includes an engine enclosure separated from a cooling system enclosure by a wall to reduce noise and advance cooling system performance. For this structure, however, the axial fan cannot be of benefit to the engine room, and so the temperature rise in the engine room makes several bad conditions. This paper proposes that hot air in engine room is evacuated tv secondary pipe using jet pump. This paper demonstrates the structure and the effect of jet pump and useful guideline on design of area, length, and shape of secondary pipe to maximize the effect of jet pump.
Supersonic free jets discharging from an orifice or a nozzle have long been research subject with a number of engineering applications and have mainly been investigated using dry air or other gas without any condensation effects. The major characteristics of those supersonic jets are now well known in terms of jet pressure ratio and ratio of specific heats of gas. Recently, the supersonic jets of superheated steam or moist air are being used in many industrial applications, in which case is expected that the condensation effects might alter the fundamental structure of the dry air jet. The present study aims to investigate the supersonic moist air jet and to clarify the condensation effects on the jet structure. An experiment is carried out using an indraft wind tunnel facility. The relative humidity of moist air is controlled at the nozzle supply, and the jet pressure ratio is varied to obtain the moderately under expanded flows at the exit of the nozzle. It is found that the relative humidity of moist air can change the diameter and location of Mach Disk.

Research on shock structures of supersonic jet through visualization experiments in low-pressure environment have not been actively conducted. Therefore, in this study, shock waves and supersonic jets were analyzed and compared by numerical analysis and Schlieren technique at low-pressure. Schlieren technique is commonly used to visualize the shock waves generated by density gradient as interferometric methods. Pressure ratio of entrance and ambient was set around 4 to observe moderate under-expanded jet. For validation of experimental and numerical results, the shock structure and frequency were compared. In the case of ST and C nozzle, the results were shown that the difference of shock cell distance was within 10%. The Mach number gradually decreased due to energy reduction, and the error rate was within 7%. D nozzle was not fitted to be observing the shock structure. Because the interface between rarefaction fan and supersonic jet was ambiguous and oscillating phemenoma occurred at end of jet, the supersonic jet in low ambient pressure was observed and analyzed.

Self-excited pulse jet is a specific nozzle with a closed chamber which can change a continuous jet into a pulse one. Energy of the pulse jet can be output not only unevenly but also with multifrequency. With the peak pressure of pulse jet, the hitting power would be 2~2.5 times higher than that of continuous jet. In order to reveal the correlation between the self-excited pulse frequency and nozzle diameter ratio, nozzle spacing and operating pressure, the model of 3D unsteady cavitation model has been used. We found that with the same nozzle structure parameters and the different operating pressure, the self-excited frequency and the width of peak crest are different, but the wave profiles are similar. With FFT, we also found that the less bandwidth of amplitude in low frequency range will lead to the wider wave crest of outlet velocity in its time domain, and the larger force of the strike will be gained. By studying the St of self-excite nozzle, not only the frequency of a certain nozzle can be predicted, but also a nozzle structure with a certain frequency can be designed.

Since, in case of high energy piping, steam jets ejected from the rupture zone may cause damage to nearby structure, it is necessary to design it into consideration of nuclear power plant design. For the existing nuclear power plants, the ANSI / ANS 58.2 technical standard for high-energy pipe rupture was used. However, the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) and academia recently have pointed out the non-conservativeness of existing high energy pipe fracture evaluation methods. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a highly reliable evaluation methodology to evaluate the behavior of steam jet ejected during high energy pipe rupture and the effect of steam jet on peripheral devices and structures. In this study, we develop a method for analyzing the impact load of a jet by high energy pipe rupture, and plan to carry out an experiment to verify the evaluation methodology. In this paper, the basic data required for the design of the jet impact load experiment equipment under construction, 1) the load change according to the jet distance, 2) the load change according to the jet collision angle, 3) the load variation according to structure diameter, and 4) the load variation depending on the jet impact position, are numerically obtained using the developed steam jet analysis technique.

This paper presents experimental and computational investigations of synthetic jets with a circular exit for improving flow control performance. First, the flow feature and vortex structure of a multiple serial circular exit were numerically analyzed from the view point of flow control effect under a cross flow condition. In order to improve separation control performance, experimental and numerical studies were conducted according to several key parameters, such as hole diameter, hole gap, the number of hole, jet array, and phase difference. Experiments were carried out in a quiescent condition and a forced separated flow condition using piezoelectrically driven synthetic jets. Jet characteristics were compared by measuring velocity profiles and pressure distributions. The interaction of synthetic jets with a freestream was examined by analyzing vortical structure characteristics. For separation control performance, separated flow over an airfoil at high angles of attack was employed and the flow control performance of the proposed synthetic jet was verified by measuring aerodynamic coefficient. The circular exit with a suitable hole parameter provides stable and persistent jet vortices that do beneficially affect separation control. This demonstrates the flow control performance of circular exit array could be remarkably improved by applying a set of suitable hole parameters.
In the advanced nuclear power plants including APR1400, the SDVS (Safety Depressurization and Vent System) is adopted to increase the plant safety using the concept of feed-and-bleed operation. In the case of the TLOFW (Total Loss of Feedwater), the POSRV (Power Operated Safety Relief Value) located at the top of the pressurizer is expected to open due to the pressurization of the reactor coolant system and discharges steam and/or water mixture into the water pool, where the mixture is condensed. During the condensation of the mixture, thermal-hydraulic loads such as pressure and temperature variations are induced to the pool structure. For the pool structure design, such thermal-hydraulic aspects should be considered. Understanding the phenomena of the submerged steam jet condensation in a water pool is helpful for system designers to design proper pool structure, sparger, and supports etc. This paper reviews and evaluates the steam jet condensation in a water pool on the physical phenomena of the steam condensation including condensation regime map, heat transfer coefficient, steam plume, steam jet condensation load, and steam jet induced flow.
The mear field structure of round turbulent jets with initially asymmetric velocity distributions is investigated experimentally. Experiments are carried out using a constant temperature hot-wire anemometry system to measure streamwise velocity in the jets. The measurements are undertaken across the jet at various streamwise stations in a range starting from the jet exit plane and up to a downstream location of twelve diameters. The experimental results include the distributions of mean and instantaneous velocities, vorticity field, turbulence intensity, and the Reynolds shear stresses. The asymmetry of the jet exit plane was obtained by using circular cross-section pipes with a bend upstream of the exit. There pipes used here include a straight pipe, and 90 and 160 degree-bend pipes. Therefore, at the upstream of the upstream of the pipe exit, secondary flow through the bend mean streamwise velocity distribution could be controlled by changing the curvature of pipes. The jets into the atmosphere have two levels of initial velocity skewness in addition to an axisymmetric jet from a straight pipe. In case of the curved pipe, a six diameter-long straight pipe section follows the bend upstream of the exit. The Reynolds number based on the exit bulk velocity is 13,400. The results indicate that the near field structure is considerably modified by the skewness of an initial mean velocity distribution. As the skewness increases, the decay rate of mean velocity at the centerline also increases.
