고속 충돌제트의 불안정특성 (Instability of High-Speed Impinging Jets(I))

  • The objective of this study is to obtain the unstable characteristics of the high-speed two-dimensional jet impinging normally onto a flat plate. The study is based on the feedback model and the experiment of the frequency characteristics of the impinging tones. Using the experimental data for the tonal frequencies of the impinging tones the convection speed of the unstable jet is obtained along with all the other features. Three kinds of unstable modes are clarified: asymmetric $A_{1}$ and $A_{2}$ and symmetric S. The condition for the excitation of each mode is found in terms of Strouhal number and Reynolds number. The convection speed is estimated and discussed in comparison with existing theoretical models. It is found that the convection speed increases with frequency when the mode is asymmetric, but decreases when it is symmetric. In addition, the characteristics of the high-speed impinging jet are compared with the low-speed impinging jet.

  • Heat transfer characteristics for an air jet vertically impinging on a flat plate with a set of hybrid rods was investigated numerically using the RNG k-$\varepsilon$turbulent model. A commercial finite-volume code FLUENT is used. The rods had cross sections of half circular and rectangular shapes. The heating surface was heated with a constant heat flux value of $1020W/m^2$. Parameters investigated were the jet Reynolds number, nozzle -to-plate spacing, the rod pitch and rod-to-plate clearance. The local and average Nusselt number were found to be dependent on the rod pitch and the clearance because installing rods disturbed the flow. Higher convective heat transfer rate occurred in the whole plate as well as in the wall jet region.

  • The problem of the impingement of a sonic or a supersonic jet on a flat surface has not only wide applications but has also interesting and very complex flow phenomena. The main applications of this impinging jet include prediction of solid surface erosion, design of launcher systems, stage separation of multi-stage rocket system, V/STOL operations, thermal spray system, and manufacturing technologies of materials. Much have been learned about the supersonic impinging jet flow field but many fundamental questions have not been answered satisfactorily. The problem encompasses many facets of fluid dynamics which, in combination, present the compressibility effect and the viscous-inviscid interaction, coupled with flow separation and reattachment. What is more, there are many flow parameters that have on the impinging jet flow field, for example, Mach number, Reynolds number, pressure ratio, distance between the nozzle exit and flat plate, jet shock structure, nozzle diameter and etc. Thus the existing data on the supersonic impinging jet flow present considerable disagreement in which quantitative comparison between one result and another is often impossible.

저 레이놀즈수 k-ε난류모형에 의하 축대칭 모형포트 유동의 수치해석적 연구 (A Numerical Study on the Flow of a Model Intake Port Using Low Reynolds Number)

  • In this study, flow of a model intake port/valve system is analyzed by using low Reynolds number $k-{\varepsilon}$ model. Discharge coefficient was obtained from computational results for the various cases of valve lifts. Discharge coefficient becomes maximum when the valve lift is 20mm, and does not increase or decrease in proportional to valve lift. Most of pressure drop and production of turbulent kinetic energy occur at the edge points of the valve and the valve seat Thus, in order to improve discharge coefficient, rounding of edge points in valve and valve seat is recommended. As valve lift is increased, the velocity of the intake jet in the valve passage decreases, and the direction of the jet is more inclined toward the valve seat.

정지공기중 점성유체 분류의 분열길이 측정 (Measurement of Breakup Length of Viscous Liquid Jet in Stagnant Air)

  • The measurement of breakup length of viscous liquid jet in stagnant air was conducted by a 3CCD digital video camera. The nozzle diameters of 4, 6, 8mm with L/d=50 were selected and the dynamic viscosity of viscous liquid made of glycerine and water was in the range of $1.061\times10^{-6}m^2/s$ to $4.935\times10^{-5}m^2/s$. The critical velocity is decreased and the breakup length is increased with the increase of nozzle diameter at the same dynamic viscosity of liquid. At the same nozzle diameter, the breakup length and the critical velocity are both increased with the increase of dynamic viscosity of liquid. It is found in the theoretical analysis that the initial disturbance level is the main cause of occurrance of critical Reynolds number in the stability curve. The comparison of experimental critical Reynolds number and the empirical correlation by Tanasawa and Toyota reveals the relatively good agreement.

오프셋이 있는 경우 측벽에서의 대류열전달에 관한연구 (A Study on the Convection Heat Transfer on the Side-wall with a Offset)

  • The coefficients of convective heat transfer were investigated when air is jetted to surface of the heated side-wall. The temperature on the side-wall was measured when the offsets changed from 1.5 to 10.5 as 7 steps at the state of fixed Reynolds numbers that were 35000, 29000 and 23000. The experimental results are as follows: 1. The mean Nusselt number is very high on the surface of reattached flow region. 2. The offset and the recirculation flow region decreased, while the mean Nusselt number increased between the outlet of nozzle and the region of reattachment flow. 3. The local Nusselt number is not concerned with Reynolds number on the recirculation flow and on the reattached flow region when the offset decrease. But the Nusselt number increased only when Reynolds numbers on the wall jet flow region increased. 4. The mean and the maximum Nusselt number decreases linearly, and in particular its values rapidly decrease in accordance with changing of the offset from 1.5 to 3 in inverse proportion.

Reynolds Number Effects on Aerodynamic Characteristics of Compressor Cascades for High Altitude Long Endurance Aircraft

  • In the jet engines on the aircrafts cruising at high altitude over 20 km and subsonic speed, the Reynolds number in terms of the compressor blades becomes very low. In such an operating condition with low Reynolds number, it is widely reported that total pressure loss of the air flow through the compressor cascades increases dramatically due to separation of the boundary layer and the secondary-flow. But the detail of flow mechanisms causes the total pressure loss has not been fully understood yet. In the present study, two series of numerical investigations were conducted to study the effects of Reynolds number on the aerodynamic characteristics of compressor cascades. At first, the incompressible flow fields in the two-dimensional compressor cascade composed of C4 airfoils were numerically simulated with various values of Reynolds number. Compared with the corresponding experimental data, the numerically estimated trend of total pressure loss as a function of Reynolds number showed good agreement with that of experiment. From the visualized numerical results, the thickness of boundary layer and wake were found to increase with the decrease of Reynolds number. Especially at very low Reynolds number, the separation of boundary layer and vortex shedding were observed. The other series, as the preparatory investigation, the flow fields in the transonic compressor, NASA Rotor 37, were simulated under the several conditions, which corresponded to the operation at sea level static and at 10 km of altitude with low density and temperature. It was found that, in the case of operation at high altitude, the separation region on the blade surface became lager, and that the radial and reverse flow around the trailing edge become stronger than those under sea level static condition.

비균일 온도분포를 갖는 평판에 대한 충돌제트의 열전달 및 난류유동특성에 관한 연구 (Experimental Study on the Heat Transfer and Turbulent Flow Characteristics of Jet Impinging the Non-isothermal Heating Plate)

  • 선형온도구배를 갖는 비균일 가열표면에 대한 충돌 제트의 난류유동장과 열전달 특성을 실험을 통해 연구하였다. 제트의 레이놀즈수와 가열판의 온도구배, 그리고 노즐 출구로부터 가열판가지의 거리를 변화시키며 실험을 수행하였다. 최대 열전달은 정체점에서 나타나고 정체점으로부터 벽면방향으로 거리가 증가함에 따라 열전달률은 감소한다. 벽면가지의 거리가 크지 않은 경우는 난류의 영향으로 열전달의 제2정점이 나타난다. 최대 열전달은 노즐과 가열판 사이의 거리가 노즐 직경의 6에서 8배 정도일 때 나타난다. 열전달률의 상관식을 프란틀수와 레이놀즈수, 노즐과 가열판사이의 거리와 직경비 그리고 온도구배의 지수승의 함수로 구하였다. 열전달률과 난류유동장의 관계를 실험을 통해 확인하였다. 벽면제트는 온도구배의 의해 영향을 받았고 벽면거리가 증가할수록 더 크게 나타났다.

PIV기법에 의한 엇갈린 관군 배열 내부의 유동장 측정 (Measurement of Flow Field through a Staggered Tube Bundle using Particle Image Velocimetry)

  • We applied PIV method to obtain instantaneous and ensemble averaged velocity fields from the first row to the fifth row of a staggered tube bundle. The Reynolds number based on the tube diameter and the maximum velocity was set to be 4,000. Remarkably different natures are observed in the developing bundle flow. Such differences are depicted in the mean recirculating bubble length and the vorticity distributions. The jet-like flow seems to be a dominant feature after the second row and usually skew. However, the ensemble averaged fields show symmetric profiles and the flow characteristics between the third and fourth measuring planes are not so different. comparison between the PIV data and the RANS simulation yields severe disagreement in spite of the same Reynolds number. It can be explained that the distinct jet-like unsteady motions are not to be accounted in th steady numerical analysis.

  • In the present work, a numerical study of fluid flow and heat transfer on the concave surface with impinging jet has been performed by solving three-dimensional Reynods-averaged Naver-Stokes(RANS) equations. The constant temperature condition was applied to the concave impingement surface. The inclination angle of jet nozzle and the distance between jet nozzles are chosen as design variables under equivalent mass flow rate of working fluid into cooling channel, and area averaged Nusselt number on concave impingement surface is set as the objective function. Thirteen training points are obtained by Latin Hypercube sampling method, and the PEA model is constructed by using the objective function values at the trainging points. And, the sequential quadratic programming is used to search for the optimal paint from the PBA model. Through the optimization, the optimal shape shows improved heat transfer rate as compared to the reference geometry.
