Design and Implementation of the Java Card API for Efficient File Management (효율적 파일 관리를 위한 자바카드 API 설계 및 구현)

  • There are several independent applets to support various applications in a Java Card. Each applet in a Java Card processes and manages its own data without concern to other applets and their data. In this paper we proposed file system API to support efficient file management based on Java Card. Also we designed and implemented Java Card based file system API using basic API and referring to the file system standard defined in ISO 7816-4 Smart Card standard. By using proposed file system API, we can replace duplications of same code in each applet with short method call. So the used memory space and processing time is reduced and also the reduction of development time and cost will be expected.

An Explicit Dynamic Memory Management Scheme in Java Run-Time Environment (자바 실행시간 환경에서 명시적인 동적 메모리 관리 기법)

  • The objects generated by the keyword new in Java are automatically managed by the garbage collector Inside Java Virtual Machine (JVM) not like using the keywords free or delete in C or C++ programming environments. This provides a means of freedom of memory management burden to the application programmers. The garbage collector however. inherently has its own run time execution overhead. Thus it causes the performance degradation of JVM significantly. In order to mitigate the execution burden of a garbage collector, we propose a novel way of dynamic memory management scheme in Java environment. In the proposed method, the application programmers can explicitly manage the objects In a simple way, which in consequence the run-time overhead can be reduced while the garbage collector is under processing. In order to accomplish this, Java application firstly calls the APIs that arc implemented by native Jana, and then calls the subroutines depending on the JVM, which in turn support to keep the portability characteristic Java has. In this way, we can not only sustain the stability in execution environments. but also improve performance of garbage collector by simply calling the APIs. Our simulation study show that the proposed scheme improves the execution time of the garbage collector from 10.07 percent to 52.24 percent working on Mark-and-Sweep algorithm.

  • Smart Grid를 위해서 전기의 끊김없는 공급과 안전한 전기사용이 중요하다. Smart Grid에 사용되는 전기IT기기의 성능평가와 인증을 받기 위해서는 모듈 기준값, 모듈 성능값, 제품별 기능, 실험장비, 허용오차 등 실험 DataBase가 발생한다. 전기IT기기는, 기존의 존기기기에 IT와 통신기능을 융합하여 전기의 공급과 안전성을 강화시킨 제품이다. 본 논문에서는 Smart Grid DataBase 개발을 위한 전기IT기기들을 안전하게 관리하고, IT와 통신을 통한 인터넷 웹브라우저에서 접속할 수 있는 Java Servlet 기술을 이용한, 전기IT기기에 대한 평가기관 및 인증기관이 실시간으로 평가와 인증 자료를 관리 할 수 있도록 한다.

A Study on Comparison Analysis of Collaborative Filtering in Java and R

  • The mobile application market has been growing extensively in recent years. Currently, Apple's App Store has more than 400,000 applications and Google's Android Market has above 150,000 applications. Such growth in volumes of mobile applications has created a need to develop a recommender system that assists the users to take the right choice, when searching for a mobile application. In this paper, we study the recommendation system building tools based on collaborative filtering. Specifically, we present a study on comparison analysis of collaborative filtering in Java and R statistical software. We implement the collaborative filtering using Java's Apache Mahout and R's recommenderlab package. We evaluate both methods and describe the advantages and disadvantages of using them in order to implement collaborative filtering.

  • This paper introduces a proper renaming service using variable action and security services against the analysis techniques in Java code. The renaming service that is introduced is separated into API pattern and loop condition. We present our scheme algorithm with known Java obfuscation techniques and tools in order to help readers understanding, and implement prototype to prove practicality in this paper. Test result using prototype shows 73% successful variable renaming rate. Using our scheme, cooperators can intuitionally understand all of code. Also, It helps malware analysts to predict malware action by variable name. But application source code that is developed by Java is exposed to hackers easily using our scheme. So we introduce Java application code protection methods, too.

  • Nowadays, GIS, as multi-discipline information system, is closely linked with GPS application in conjunction with GIS-T or Logistics GIS. With this R&D trend. CPS/GIS application system for AVL is newly developed in this study. This AVL is designed and implemented by using pure Java computing technology towards com ing Car-equipped wireless Internet PC age, and main features of Java are included at this system: Platform independence, Multi-thread processing, and Object-oriented paradigm. While, because core modules of this AVL are based on GIS spatial engine, unlike other commercial AVLs, large spatial database problem handling digital image/spatial information and attribute information and direct access problem of GIS data is easily dealt with. this system can directly access external database by using JDBC: MS Access for desktop version and Oracle for W/S version. Finally, it is thought that Java-based AVL, one of CPS/CIS applications, can be easily extended into other prospective GIS applications: Land surveyor supporting system, Flight tracking system, 3D facility management system with CPS, and so forth.

  • As computer systems and communication technologies develop rapidly, CSCW(Computer Supported Collaborative Work) system appears nowadays, through which it is available to work on virtual space without any restriction of time and place. Most of CWCS systems depend on a special network and groupware. The systems of graphics and CAD are not so many because they are specified by hardware and application software. We propose a Web-based collaborative CAD system which is independent from any platforms, and develop a 3D solid modeler in the system. This system can be worked in the environment of Client/Server architecture. Clients connect to the design server through Java applet on WWW. The server is implemented by Java application.

  • A smart card based on the existing Java card platform executes and installs an application only when the power is supplied for a minute. And preparing for unexpected power outrage, the execution state of an application and all the data that are modified during execution are saved in the heap. This kind of frequent data update of an EEPROM data is a main cause of reducing the life-cycle of a smart card. This is because the smart card has been developed not considering the current situation that the power is always supplied, and by this time it has continuously kept its old architecture. This paper explains the high performance Java card system free power restriction. The system improves not only application saving mechanism, but memory architecture. In special, we deploy RAM for running an applet, as well as EEPROM for downloading an application. Through proposed mechanism, we can find out performance evaluation that the creation speed of an applet and the execution speed of a method increase up to 58% and 33% respectively.

A Performance Evaluation on Classic Mutual Exclusion Algorithms for Exploring Feasibility of Practical Application (실제 적용 타당성 탐색을 위한 고전적 상호배제 알고리즘 성능 평가)

  • The mutual exclusion is originally based on the theory of race condition prevention in symmetric multi-processor operating systems. But recently, due to the generalization of multi-core processors, its application range has been rapidly shifted to parallel processing application domain. POSIX thread, WIN32 thread, and Java thread, which are typical parallel processing application development environments, provide a unique mutual exclusion mechanism for each of them. Applications that are very sensitive to performance in these environments may want to reduce the burden of mutual exclusion, even at some cost, such as inconvenience of coding. In this study, we implement Dekker's and Peterson's algorithm in the form of busy-wait and processor-yield in various platforms, and compare the performance of them with the built-in mutual exclusion mechanisms to evaluate the usability of the classic algorithms. The analysis result shows that Dekker's algorithm of processor-yield type is superior to the built-in mechanisms in POSIX and WIN32 thread environments at least 2 times and up to 70 times, and confirms that the practicality of the algorithm is sufficient.

  • In this paper, we present JPAS(Java Package for Array Sharing) which is a Java Package for sharing arrays of data on a cluster of workstations. It allows us to divide an array of data into several pieces, and to place each piece on a different host. JPAS uses Java RMI so that the entire array can be accessed by a location transparent interface which is similar to that of a distributed shared memory system. JPAS is portable and easy to use since it is implemented using pure Java. In order to reduce network overhead, JPAS allows programmers to use their prior knowledge of the application. Data consistency can be maintained through the value updating methods defined for all the elements of an array. We developed parallel programs which use JPAS, and tested them on a cluster of workstations. The test results show that JPAS is a parallel programming tool with reasonably good performance.
