In AC railway feeding system, three phase received from the network is changed to two phase power sources with different phases. The main circuit breaker installed train is automatically open by track signal when the train passes the neutral section. In order to continuously supply power source to train, the changeover system was used in Japan. Therefore, the train is able to operate under powering condition when it was passing through the neutral section. We investigated the control method to reduce the inrush current flowing main transformer in train. To examine the inrush current and operate the static semiconductor switch such as thyristor, we manufactured the small scale the changeover system and carried out performance tests.
It is most important to support the track as well as to be directly connected to run safety. The performance design satisfied with the more safe and economic embankment study is required due to the high speed, design load and growth of traffic. Therefore, in this paper the relation between main design elements to adopt the method of the performance design were analysed. And the correlation among design indices developed and used in an advanced countries such as germany, japan were evaluated.

To improve the riding comfort of high speed trains, it needs active suspension system for railway more and more. In Japan, the high speed train, Shinkansen has adopted semi active suspension system and now it is running in the main trunk. In Korea, Koeran Train Express (KTX) is opened to commercial traffic and Korea High speed Railway (HSR350) is being developed. So the vibration control of the high speed train becomes important. In this paper, we introduce technical skill of Japanese semi active suspension Shinkansen to be helpful to the related researcher.
In this study, we have developed the static and dynamic simulation program of a high speed current collection system. The catenary wire is modeled to discrete masses connected by massless strings and the pantograph is replaced with 3 d.o.f equivalent models that are composed of masses, springs and dampers. We derived partial differential equations of motion from the equivalent model and developed the simulation program. Then, we calculated the static equilibrium state of the overhead catenary and the dynamic behaviors of the high speed current collection system. The analysis results were compared with the results of GASENDO software developed at RTRI in Japan.
For the connection of trans-continental railway network, it is critical to conquer the break-of-gauge problem at the borders in different countries. Up to now, the best solution seems to be the employ of the auto-changable gauge equipment. Countries, such as Russia, Japan are developing and commercializing auto-changable gauge equipment to maximize transport efficiency for the trans-continental network. The efforts to search a suitable logistical service are also underway. In this paper, technology and development trend of this equipment in several countries is indicated through inspecting and analyzing the historical and current situation of development, operating mechanism and technical problems. As the basic technology of auto-changeable gauge is not well developed in our country, the purpose of this study is to search an approach to fix the research direction, and find practical ways to international cooperation.
This study suggests several ways to improve the railroad facilities in the urban areas so as to maintain the urban railroad facilities and minimize their adverse impact on the roads around the facilities. Environmental problems such as noise and vibration can be minimized by constructing soundproofing walls and improving railway and train systems. To reduce the traffic congestion at the railroad crossings, current at-grade crossings should be changed to separated crossings. Moreover, the criteria by where railroad crossings are located should be revised. In the long term, the land use development for the railroad station and the surrounding areas needs to be changed. Several case studies of Japan's and France's major cities show the potential of successfully integrating the development of railroad facilities and their surrounding areas. In addition, there is a need to .consider institutional aspects, to improve the railroad facilities in the urban areas and to allow the integrated development of the railroad facilities and the surrounding areas.

Currently in Korea, neutral sections in front of substations and sectioning posts are greatly divided into AC/DC sections and AC/AC sections. Considering catenary damage and safety issues trains pass crossover by coasting driving at notch-off. However in cases of Japan, China, or Taiwan, the usage of automatic crossover system makes it possible to pass at notch-on, enhancing high-speed railway operation for efficiency, and stability. These are the purposes of developing automatic power crossover system in neutral sections. This paper introduces two methods to detect the position of a train required to activate automatic crossover systems in neutral sections. The optimal method is expected in terms of the distance of neutral section.
For high speed railway vehicles, we consider a vibration of flexible track/wheel system. It is very important to deal with the complex phenomena of high-speed vehicles that can be occurred in the vertical vibration of the system. From a viewpoint of multibody dynamics, this kind of problem needs accurate analysis because the system includes mutual dynamic behaviors of rigid body and flexible body. The simulation technique for the complex problems is also discussed. We consider the high-speed translation, rail elasticity, elastic supports under the rail and contact rigidity. Eigen value analysis is also completed to verify the mechanism of the coupled vertical vibration of the system.
This article considers how the rail track charges of the advanced countries are performed and derived political implication to Korail. In case of North America and Japan, rail track charges are being decided to collect the infrastructure maintenance cost. In European countries, the separation of infrastructure and operation is realized and the railroad track charges are based on MC+ principle. On the other hand, Korail is paying construction cost of KTX as well as maintenance cost in Korea. As for this, railroad reform including rail track charging should be reconsidered.
The aim of this research is to analyze and periodize the relationship between railroad and river transportation as one aspect of the transformation of the land transportation system in Korea. As a result, three phases can be observed: a first phase of equality and interdependence (1910s); a second phase, subordinating rivers to feeder lines under railroad's dominance; and a third phase when trucks and buses became a major means for local transportation in place of traditional shipping routes. River ports were among the main planned destinations during the first and second phases, but such plans were changed or withdrawn after the third phase. This relationship between river and rail illustrates one geopolitical factor relating to the development of Korea's rail transportation network.
