Analysis of Jamming Robustness Performance According to RNSS Signal Waveforms

  • As the importance and dependency of the positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) information provided by the radio navigation satellite service (RNSS) increases, the vulnerability of RNSS to jamming can lead to significant risks. The signal design under the consideration of anti-jamming performance helps to provide service which is robust to jamming environment. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the jamming robustness performance during the design of new signals. In this paper, we introduce figures-of-merit (FoMs) that can be used for an anti-jamming performance analysis of designed signals of interest. We then calculate the FoMs, such as the quality factor (Q factor), tolerable jamming-to-signal ratio (tolerable J/S), and range to jammer (d) for legacy RNSS signals and analyze the results. Finally, based on the results of the analysis, we derive waveform design conditions to obtain good anti-jamming performance. As a result, this paper shows that the waveforms with wide bandwidth leading to good spectral efficiency provide strong anti-jamming performance.

  • GNSS 신호를 이용하여 서비스를 제공하는 국가기반 시설이 재밍의 영향을 받는다면 막대한 피해가 발생할 것으로 예상된다. 이를 방지하고자 적절한 방법으로 재밍신호의 발생 감지, 종류판별 및 재밍원 위치추정을 수행하는 범국가적인 GNSS 재밍 모니터링 네트워크 구성이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 GNSS 신호를 사용하는 자율주행 차량의 테스트베드인 K-시티와 인천 국제 공항에서 GNSS 재밍 신호의 존재 여부 및 종류를 확인하고자 실측실험을 통하여 재밍신호 환경을 확인하는 지표로 2-D 이미지를 생성하고, 분석을 통하여 재밍신호 발생 감지, 종류 판별 및 재밍신호 세기 추정을 수행한다. 그 결과, K-시티에서 L2대역에서 CWI신호가 감지되었고, 인천 국제 공항에서 L5대역에서 CWI신호가 존재하였다.

Performance Analysis of Mode Switching Scheme for Reduction of Phase Distortion in GPS Anti-jamming Equipment Based on STAP Algorithm

  • A method that applies space-time adaptive signal processing (STAP) algorithm based on an array antenna consisting of multiple antenna elements has been known to be effective to remove wide-band jamming signals in GPS receivers. However, the occurrence of phase distortion in navigation signals has been a problem when navigation signals, from which jamming signals are removed using STAP, are supplied to global positioning system (GPS) receivers. This paper verified the navigation performance degradation as a result of phase distortion. To mitigate this phenomenon, this paper proposes a mode switching scheme, in which a bypass mode is adopted to make the best use of the tracking performance of receivers without performing signal processing when jamming signals are not present or weak, and a STAP mode is employed when jamming signals exceed the threshold value. In this paper, the mode switching scheme is proposed for two environments: when receivers are stationary, and when receivers are moving. This paper confirmed that the performance of position error improved because phase distortion could be excluded due to STAP if the bypass mode was adopted under a condition where the jamming signal power level was below the threshold value in an environment where receivers were stationary. However, this paper also observed that the navigation failed due to the instability of tracking performance of receivers due to phase distortion that occurred at the switching time, although the number of switching could be reduced dramatically by proposing a dual threshold scheme of on- and off-thresholds that switched a mode due to the array antenna characteristics of varying gains according to the jamming signal incident direction in an environment where receivers were moving. The analysis results verified that running the STAP algorithm at all times is more efficient than the mode switching, in terms of maintaining stable navigation and ensuring position error performance, to remove jamming signals in an environment where receivers were moving.

  • 본 논문에서는 수도권 서북부 지역의 3차원 지리정보를 바탕으로 다중예봉모형을 (multiple knife-edge model) 적용해 전파교란기와 수신기의 지리적 위치에 따른 회절손실을 (diffraction loss) 계산하고, 이를 바탕으로 광대역 잡음재밍 (wideband Gaussian null-to-null noise jamming), 스펙트럼일치형재밍 (matched spectrum jamming), 연속파재밍에 (continuous wave jamming) 의한 GPS (global positioning system) L1 C/A (coarse/acquisition) 신호의 여유재밍전력을 (marginal jamming power) 보인다.

LSTM을 이용한 재밍 기법 예측 (Prediction of Jamming Techniques by Using LSTM)

  • Conventional methods for selecting jamming techniques in electronic warfare are based on libraries in which a list of jamming techniques for radar signals is recorded. However, the choice of jamming techniques by the library is limited when modified signals are received. In this paper, we propose a method to predict the jamming technique for radar signals by using deep learning methods. Long short-term memory(LSTM) is a deep running method which is effective for learning the time dependent relationship in sequential data. In order to determine the optimal LSTM model structure for jamming technique prediction, we test the learning parameter values that should be selected, such as the number of LSTM layers, the number of fully-connected layers, optimization methods, the size of the mini batch, and dropout ratio. Experimental results demonstrate the competent performance of the LSTM model in predicting the jamming technique for radar signals.

  • 본 논문에서는 무인비행체를 실시간으로 제어 및 통제하는 무인항공시스템(Unmanned Aerial System, UAS)에서 상향링크의 강건성을 강화하기 위하여 재밍신호를 제거하는 기법을 제안한다. 일반적인 통신시스템에서는 노이즈 및 재밍신호의 영향을 최소화하기 위하여 대역확산기법을 적용하고 있으며 이러한 대역확산기법을 적용한 시스템에서는 확산이득으로 인한 재밍신호에 강인한 특성을 보인다. 그러나 확산이득을 넘어서는 재밍 및 잡음 신호에 대해서는 성능이 급격히 나빠지는 특성이 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 확산이득을 넘어서는 재밍신호를 FFT(Fast Fourier Transform)변환을 통하여 주파수 영역에서 검출하고 시간영역에서 사인파 생성기로 추정된 재밍신호를 생성하여 원신호에서 재밍신호를 제거하는 기법을 제안한다. 제안하는 기법은 하드웨어 복잡도가 낮으면서 원신호의 왜곡을 최소화하면서 재밍신호를 제거할 수 있다.

Simulink Model Implementation of MVDR Adaptive Beamformer for GPS Anti-Jamming

  • For the purpose of development of anti-jamming GPS receiver we have developed an anti-jamming algorithm and its Simulink implementation model. The algorithm used here is a form of Space-Time Adaptive Processing (STAP) filter which is well known as an effective way to remove wideband jamming signals. We have chosen Minimum Variance Distortionless Response (MVDR) block-adaptive beamforming algorithm for our development since it can provide relatively fast convergence speed to reach optimal weights, stable and high suppression capability on various types of jamming signals. We will show modeling results for this MVDR type adaptive beamformer and some simulation results. We also show the integrity of the demodulated satellite signals and the accuracy of resulting navigation solutions after anti-jamming operation.

  • 처프 확산 대역 (chirp spread spectrum: CSS) 기술은 방해전파 신호에 강인한 특성으로 인하여 무선 통신 분야에서 크게 주목받고 있다 하지만 방해전파 신호에 따른 CSS 시스템의 성능에 대한 구체적인 연구는 아직 부족한 실정이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 광대역 및 톤 (tone) 방해전파 신호에 따른 CSS 시스템의 성능을 분석한다. 구체적으로는 CSS 기반 M진 위상 편이 방식 (M-ary phase shift keying: MPSK) 시스템의 심볼 오류율 수식을 유도하고 Monte Carlo 방법에 기반한 모의실험 결과와 비교한다. 이를 통하여, 본 논문에서 유도한 심볼 오류율 수식이 모의실험 결과와 일치함을 확인한다.
