Residual Image Compression based on Wavelet Transform (웨이브릿 변환을 이용한 스테레오 영상 압축)

  • In this paper, a new stereo image compression algorithm is suggested in which the residual image extracted from the stereo image by the disparity-compensated prediction method is compressed using the wavelet transform considering the inter & intra correlation between subbands. The compression performance of the proposed method is significantly improved by comparing with the conventional algorithm such as EPIC, EPWIC & JPEG through the computer simulation and the PSNR is also increased about 3.5dB compared with the EPIC. Finally, the stereo image having a good 3D effect can be reconstructed from the compressed image data by the proposed method.

  • 얼굴인식은 카메라로부터 영상을 취득하여, 이미 등록되어 있는 영상 중에 가장 높은 유사성을 보이는 영상을 취득 영상의 대상자로 판단하는 것이다. 정확한 판단을 위해서 일반적으로 얼굴인식에 사용되는 영상은 취득 당시 영상의 정보를 모두 가지고 있는 영상, 즉 압축되지 않은 영상을 사용한다. 하지만 대용량 데이터 얼굴인식 시스템에서는 저장 공간의 이유로 영상에 압축을 해야 하는 상황이 발생할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 영상압축이 얼굴인식에 미치는 영향에 대해서 고찰한다. 영상압축을 위해 사용되는 압축 형식은 JPEG, JPEG2K, SPIHT 이다. 동일은 형식의 얼굴인식의 알고리즘이라도 취득된 얼굴영상의 형식에 따라 인식률에 차이가 발생한다. 얼굴의 조명(illumination), 표정(expression), 자세(pose)는 인식률에 영향을 미치는 대표적인 요인이다. 따라서 얼굴인식이 압축에 미치는 영향을 설명하기 위해 영상별로 조명조건이 차이가 나는 데이터를 사용하여 실험하였다.

  • In recent, image data compression method of high resolution satellite image is the important issue for its application and development. The CCSDS (Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems) published a standard for the high resolution image data compression, CCSDS 122.0-B-1, in the end of 2005, which is expected to be widely applied in process of compression for the high resolution satellite images. In this paper, it is explained that the current trends of image compression methods for high resolution satellites, and then the comparison results between CCSDS 122.0-B-1 standard and JPEG are described.

  • In this paper, we propose a multi-threading system to support reconfigurable hardware accelerators on Zynq SoC. We implement high-performance JPEG decoder with reconfigurable 2D IDCT hardware accelerators to achieve maximum performance available on the platform. In this system, up to four reconfigurable hardware accelerators synchronized with SW threads can be dynamically reconfigured to provide adaptive computing capabilities according to the given image resolution and the compression ratio. JPEG decoding is operated using images with resolutions 480p, 720p, 1080p at the compression ratio of 7:1-109:1. We show that significant performance improvements are achieved as the image resolution or the compression ratio increase. For 1080p resolution, the performance improvement is up to 79.11 times with throughput speed of 99 fps at the compression ratio 17:1.

  • In this paper, a watermark inserting method according to the sensitivity of human visual system and minimizing distortion of original DCT coefficients in DCT transform domain is proposed. The proposed method inserts a more robust watermark in the insensitive block of human vision by reordering the blocks according to the human visual system which is appropriate to the JPEG image compression. It also enhances the invisibility and robustness in high compression rate in terms of the watermark inserting method within the block which minimizes distortions of original DCT coefficients. The computer simulation results show that the proposed method maintains high image quality and good robustness in high compression rate compared with conventional watermarking method.

  • Holography is the most promising 3D imaging technology to faithfully record and reproduce light information. In addition, it is widely explored in metrology for applications such as microscopy and tomography because it can accurately measure 3D shapes. However, the data size of a digital hologram is very large, and the data characteristics are notably different from those of conventional 2D images. The Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) is a group of experts from the International Organization for Standardization/International Electrotechnical Commission. This group develops and maintains standards for still image compression. In 2014, the JPEG released a new standard for 3D image compression called JPEG Pleno to represent light fields, point clouds, and holograms. Among them, JPEG Pleno Holography is the first international standard for hologram compression. We review recent advances in JPEG Pleno Holography standardization and discuss future directions of development.

  • This paper proposes a image compression algorithm which stores and transmites image data efficiently. The proposed compression algorithm modify enhances compression rate by modified ZIG-ZAG Scanning in JPEG standard algorithm which is based on 2D-DCT. And the up-compatible method of proposed algorithm can solve compatible problem with JPEG that is cased by modified ZIG-ZAG Scanning. And this paper presentes a block diagram of hardware for real-time processing.

  • JPEG2000, the standard of still image compression based on wavelet, will be widely used. One of the greatest characteristics of JPEG2000 is to offer ROI(Region-Of-Interest) coding. This is to compress with high quality the region that the user wants better than the other region. JPEG2000 and ROI have different parameters, which are tile size and ROI size, wavelet filter type and ROI shape and its location, codeblock size and number of ROI, number of DWT decomposition level and ROI importance, and number of quality layer and low resolution sub-band importance. In this paper, we shows the correlation of the parameters and ROI coding methods through experiments. This helps an application select the parameters and the methods to meet the application.

Texture Image Database Retrieval Using JPEG-2000 Partial Entropy Decoding (JPEG-2000 부분 엔트로피 복호화에 의향 질감 영상 데이터베이스 검색)

  • In this paper, we propose a novel JPEG-2000 compressed image retrieval system using feature vector extracted through partial entropy decoding. Main idea of the proposed method is to utilize the context information that is generated during entropy encoding/decoding. In the framework of JPEG-2000, the context of a current coefficient is determined depending on the pattern of the significance and/or the sign of its neighbors in three bit-plane coding passes and four coding modes. The contexts provide a model for estimating the probability of each symbol to be coded. And they can efficiently describe texture images which have different pattern because they represent the local property of images. In addition, our system can directly search the images in the JPEG-2000 compressed domain without full decompression. Therefore, our proposed scheme can accelerate the work of retrieving images. We create various distortion and similarity image databases using MIT VisTex texture images for simulation. we evaluate the proposed algorithm comparing with the previous ones. Through simulations, we demonstrate that our method achieves good performance in terms of the retrieval accuracy as well as the computational complexity.

  • 최근에는 인터넷 환경에서 여러 형태의 압축된 파일이 이용되고 있으며 통신량의 감소, 통신시간의 절약 등 많은 장점을 가지고 있다. 그래서 많은 압축 기법 그리고 압축 기법에서 동작하는 영상처리기법들이 개발되어 지고 있다. 정보 은닉에서도 JPEG과 같은 압축파일에서 동작하는 알고리즘이 개발되어 지고 있다. 이와 같은 알고리즘들은 주파수변환이나 양자화의 기본적인 룰을 이해하고 있으며 그들의 프로그램에 그러한 룰들을 적용하여 개발에 이용하고 있다. 하지만 정보은닉 알고리즘에 있어, 많은 경우에 데이터 변경 후에 정보은닉의 영향을 평가하였다. 우리는 이 논문에서 정보은닉 처리과정에서 생겨나는 데이터 변경의 영향을 예측하기 위한 방법을 제안하였다. JPEG과 같은 압축 환경에서 정보 은닉 시 적용 가능한 몇 가지 중요한 사실을 여러 경우의 실험을 통하여 얻어냈다. 이러한 사실들은 현재 존재하는(Matrix Encoding, Modified Matrix Encoding 등을 포함한 F3, F4 and F5 알고리즘 등 [1],[5],[6]) 정보은닉 프로그램의 성능향상, 알고리즘 처리시간의 감소와 같은 긍정적인 효과를 거둘 수 있다.
