This study was performed to investigate detoxifying enzyme activities of carboxylesterase(CE), glutathione S-transferase(GST) and lactate dehydrogenase(LDH) at variable toxicity levels in fresh water fish, carp(Cyprinus carpio L.). The carp was exposed to single and combined pesticides of IBP, isoprothiolane and cartap for 48 hr at sublethal doses, $LC_{10}$ and $LC_{26}$. The detoxifying enzyme activities were assayed for the liver, head and gut of the carp. The enzyme activities we discovered were as follows: Both activities of CE and GST were increased at the sublethal doses but were declined by increasing doses. In the gut, we found that the CE activity had high levels in the treatment groups of isoprothiolane+IBP and isoprothiolane+cartap. In the head, the CE activity had high levels in the treatment groups of cartap, IBP and isoprothiolane. However, the GST activities were inconsistent in the head and gut of the fish. Also, the GST activity was declined by increasing protein contents. The highest LDH activity was shown in the isoprothiolane treated fish, while the lowest activity was observed in the isoprothiolane+cartap treatment.
This study was performed to investigate effects of probable detoxifying enzyme activity and toxicity by pesticides and their combinations in the fresh water fish. Seven pesticides including IBP, isoprothiolane, cartap, ridomil, chlorothalonil, captafol and endosulfan were subjected to investigate for their acute toxicites and synergism possibilities. The $LC_{50}$ value of endosulfan was the lowest at showing 0.0079 ppm and that of metalaxyl was the highest as showing 40 ppm over. The synergism effects of relative pesticides were observed in the combinations of isoprothiolane+IBP and isoprothiolane+cartap. The changes of glycogen contents in fish liver were assayed for 5 pesticides and its highest inhibition effect of glycogen showed in IBP treated fish. The activity of probable detoxifying enzymes including carboxylesterase (CE), glutathion S-transferase (GST) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) were assayed in carp liver at dose of sublethal concentrations. Effects of pesticides on changes in each enzyme activities were as follows: carboxylesterase (CE) activities were the highest in IBP and gtutathion S-transferase (GST) activities were the highest in iosoprothiolane+IBP. Both activities of carboxylesterase (CE) and glutahtion S-transferase (GST) were increased by 5 chemicals. The highest LDH activity showed in isoprothiolane treated fish, while the lowest activity was observed in isoprothiolane+cartap. Sublethal exposure to cartap and isoprothiolane+cartap in carp exerted various effects on LDH activity.

Three pesticides for paddy rice, iprobenfos, isoprothiolane, and diazinon were examined on some environmental factors, their hydrolysis, microbial degradation, and photolysis in aqueous systems. Iprobenfos was mainly degraded by microorganisms and its half-life was 5.7 days at $28^{\circ}C$ in aqueous systems. Hydrolysis of iprobenfos was accelerated by the higher temperature, but its photodegradation was accelerated by the lower pH. Isoprothiolane was rapidly decomposed by two factors, microorganisms and sunlight. The half-life of isoprothiolane by sunlight was 91 days at pH 9.0, while it was 13 days at pH 4.0 and 16 days at pH 7.2. However, it was shortened under low pH condition. In aqueous system, diazinon was degraded by all of three factors and its degradation rate was remarkably accelerated by acidic solution. Main degradation factors of iprobenfos, isoprothiolane, and diazinon in the aqueous system were investigated by microbial degradation, photolysis, and hydrolysis, respectively. The strains of microbial degradation for iprobenfos, isoprothiolane, and diazinon in the aqueous environment were identified as Pseudomonas putida, Alcaligenes xylosoxydans ss, Klebsiella planticola/ornithinllytica, respectively. The similarity rates of identity were $54.8{\sim}86.2%$ with biolog-system.
This study used gas chromatography combined with the microelectron capture detection method to determine the most effective washing and cooking methods for removing isoprothiolane from rice. The initial isoprothiolane concentrations in brown and polished rice, before washing, were 17.03 mg/kg and 1.67 mg/kg, respectively. Residual concentrations declined with more washing cycles (19.3-59.3% for brown rice; 43.1-66.5% for polished rice); and by increasing the temperature of the washing water from 5℃ to 40℃ (56.6-63.1% for brown rice; 67.1-74.9% for polished rice). Hand-washing samples using gentle stirring or harsh rubbing reduced pesticide concentrations by 63.1-71.6% for brown rice, versus 75.4-87.4% for polished rice. Reduction in isoprothiolane concentrations varied based on the rice cooker type and whether the rice was pre-soaked. Immediate cooking using an electric- or pressure-cooker showed 78.5% and 78.4% reduction in brown rice, compared with 94.0% and 94.0% for polished rice, respectively. Pre-cooking immersion for 30 min showed similar reductions of 83.4% and 83.4% in brown rice, versus 95.8% and 95.8% in polished rice. The results of this study suggest that the most effective method for removing residual isoprothiolane from both brown rice and polished rice was to wash six times (with vigorous rubbing during the 2nd and 3rd washing) in 7-fold water at 40℃, followed by immersion for 30 min before cooking. Regardless of the type of rice cooker, heating is sufficient to remove an average of 83.4% and 95.8% of isoprothiolane from brown rice and polished rice, respectively.
The effect of isoprothiolane(di-isopropyl-1,3-dithiolan-2-ylidenemalonate) aganist fat necrosis in Hanwoo(Korean Cattle) sire was evaluated. The 10 heads of Hanwoo sire suffering from fat necrosis were given 50mg/kg body weight of isoprothiolane(0.2g/kg of Fujix, Japan) orally once a day for 8 weeks. In 30% of these, the size of the necrotic fat masses had decreased significantly 7 months after the adminstration. Isoprothiolane did not affect on live body weight and semen characteristics. However the sire affected with fat necrosis had higher MCHC(Mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration) than normal sire in hematologic values 10 weeks after administration. Number of RBC(red blood cell) and PCV(packed cell volume) 10 weeks after administration had been increased than those before administration(p < 0.05). The serum concentrations of creatinine, triglyceride, and total cholesterol 10 weeks after administration were higher than those before administration while the concentration of glucose was vice versa. The isoprothiolane may reduce the oxidation of glucose, increase the glucose transfer to lipids, and increase blood supply to necrotic masses. These results indicate that isoprothiolane may be useful as the therapeutic agent aganist fat necrosis.

Soil adsorption study was carried out to define the mobility of pesticides or to evaluate leaching potential in soils. Five pesticides including ethoprophos, procymidone, iprobenfos, isoprothiolane, and butachlor were subjected to optimized adsorption experiment protocol for three types of cultivation soils. Freundlich adsorption coefficients (K) were ranged $0.35{\sim}0.95$ for ethoprophos, $0.98{\sim}2.2$ for iprobenfos, $1.2{\sim}4.3$ for procymidone, $1.5{\sim}3.5$ for isoprothiolane and $7.9{\sim}19$ for butachlor in three soils. Based on Koc values, ethoprophos was classified as mobile, iprobenfos, isoprothiolane and procymidone as moderately mobile and butachlor as slightly mobile. Two evaluation methods, Groundwater Ubiquity Score (GUS) index and standard indices of soil-chemical adsorption and biodegradation, were used for the estimation of pesticide leaching potential. Leachability of isoprothiolane and iprobenfos were evaluated as moderate, ethoprophos as a little potential, while butachlor and procymidone showed very low leaching potential. The leaching potential of pesticides was essentially determined on the basis of intrinsic properties of the pesticides and environmental properties. Among the soil properties, organic matter gave a great influence on the leachability of soils. Therefore, leachabilities of pesticides were expected less in loam with relatively higher organic matter than clay loam with lower organic matter.
To investigate the possibility of the BPH control by systematic application of insecticides, biological effects of buprofezin and isoprothiolane upon the BPH population was evaluated in the laboratory and pot. Both chemicals did not affect the developmental period of the nymphal stage with the applied dosages. When the buprofezin treated instar nymph was developed to the adult, adult's longevity was fairly reduced and such an effect of buprofezin was greater upon the younger instar nymphs. Residual effect of buprofezin was about 30 days in the pot. And it could suppress the BPH population when the younger instar nymphs were dominant age group in the population at the time of treatment. Isoprothiolane was also more effective for the suppression of the BPH population when the younger instar nymphs were dominant at the time of treatment. And it was expected that by buprofezin treatment in July the control effect of isoprothiolane against the BPH population could be maximized when it was treated to control the rice neck blast in late July or early August, because buprofezin could induce the biased population age distribution in which younger instar nymphs were main group at the time of isoprothiolane treatment.
Effect of the application time on the persistence of IBP and isoprothiolane in rice plant was studied in the field and effects of the water depth and soil texture on their persistence were also tested as a pot experiment. When granules were applied to the rice paddy water, two fungicides were readily absorbed through the root system and rapidly translocated to the upper parts of the plant. The concentrations of two fungicides in rice plant reached to the maximum within 24 hr regardless of the application time. When applied at the maximum tillering stage, the persistence pattern of two fungicides in plant showed similar trends; that is, residue levels of two compounds declined rapidly upto 7 days after application but more slowly thereafter. When applied at the heading stage, the persistence pattern of IBP in plant was similar to the maximum tillering stage while isoprothilane was quite different; 3 ppm reached on 3rd days after application was maintained almost constant for further 25 days. There was no effect of the water depth on the persistence of two compounds in plant and IBP concentration in plant was also not affected by soil texture. However, isoprothiolane in plant was higher in sandy loam than in loam and clay loam. Isoprothiolane residues in plant were much higher than those of IBP.

The simultaneous or consecutive product analysis is needed for quality control because the various items are produced in pesticide manufacturer. This study was conducted to establish a multi-pesticide analysis making possible to analyze several active ingredients with one injection of mixed active ingredients under same instrument-condition in the cause of quality control with accuracy and speed. The test was conducted with 3 pesticides, iprobenfos 17%GR, isoprothiolane 12%GR, tebufenozide 20%SC and performed by GLC and HPLC. With the GLC method, 2 active ingredients of iprobenfos and isoprothiolane were analyzed but tebufenozide was not detective simultaneously. With the HPLC method, all of the active ingredients in those three pesticides were simultaneously analyzed in this study.

This study was conducted to investigate the downward mobility of pesticides using soil colunms and to compare the experimental results with predicted values from Convective mobility test model. Five pesticides including ethoprophos, procymidone, iprobenfos, isoprothiolane, and butachlor were subjected to soil column leaching test for three types of cultivation soils. The concentrations of ethoprophos, iprobenfos, procymidone, isoprothiolane and butachlor leached from soil column of 30 cm depth ranged $0.74{\sim}3.61mg/mL,\;0.36{\sim}1.67mg/L,\;0.16{\sim}0.84mg/L,\;0.16{\sim}0.67mg/L$ and lower than 0.15 mg/L, respectively. Elution volume to reach the peak of ethoprophos, iprobenfos, procymidone, isoprothiolane and butachlor in the leachate ranged $2{\sim}4PV,\;3{\sim}10PV,\;5{\sim}13PV,\;4{\sim}14PV\;and\;19{\sim}61PV$, respectively. Convection times predicted by Convective mobility test model at standard conditions were $9{\sim}18$ days for ethoprophos, $17{\sim}35$ days for iprobenfos, $24{\sim}54$ days for isoprothiolane, $21{\sim}65$ days for procymidone and $105{\sim}279$ days for butachlor. Based on these convection times, ethoprophos was classified as mobile or most mobile, isoprothiolane and procymidone as moderately mobile or mobile and butachlor as slightly mobile. On the same conditions, convection times from the model were coincided with those from soil column test in most of the soil-pesticide combinations applied. Therefore, Convective mobility test model could be applied to predict convection times of pesticides.
