PV system's islanding occurs when the uitilty grid is removed but local sources continue to operate and provide power to local loads. Islanding is one of the serious problems m an electric power system connected with dispersed power sources. Also, this can present safety hazards and the possibility of damage to other electric equipments. If the real and reactive power of RLC load and PV system are closely matched, islanding detection by passive methods becomes difficult. Novel islanding detection method using frequency drift is proposed for grid-connected PV system.
Islanding phenomenon of a grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) power conditioning system (PCS) is said to occur if the PCS continues to power a section of the utility system after that section has been disconnected from the utility source. Since islanding creates hazards for personnel and equipment, PCSs are required to detect and prevent Et. In this paper, several islanding detection methods (IDMs) and reactive power variation method are described. Islanding test results for 9kW PCS are presented for verification.
Islanding phenomenon of utility-connected PV power conditioning systems(PV PCS) can cause a variety of problems and must be prevented. If the real and reactive powers supplied by PV PCS are closely matched to those of load, islanding detection by passive methods becomes difficult. The active frequency drift(AFD) method, called the frequency bias method, enables islanding detection by forcing the frequency of the voltage in the islanding to drift up or down. In this paper, non-detection zone(NDZ) of AFD is analyzed for the islanding detection method of utility-connected PV PCS by simulation tool PSIM.
Islanding of PV systems can cause a variety of problems and must be prevented. However, if the real and active powers of RLC load and PV system are closely matched, islanding detection by passive methods becomes difficult. Active methods enables islanding detection by forcing the frequency of the voltage in the island to drift up/down. This paper shows the simulation and comparision by Matlab for the active methods.
Islanding phenomenon is undesirable because it lead to a safety hazard to utility service personnel and may cause damage to power generation and power supply facilities as a result of unsynchronized reclosure. In order to prevent the phenomenon, various anti-islanding methods have been studied. This paper proposes the variation method of inverter output current magnitude to prevent the islanding phenomenon as a novel method, which causes the large frequency variation of inverter output voltage after islanding. Unlike most active anti-islanding method deteriorating power quality, this novel method will have high performance of islanding detection and good power quality. For the verification of the proposed method, the simulated result and analyses are presented.

This paper describes the development of a novel islanding detection method, which uses the signal cross-corelation scheme between the injected reactive current and the power frequency deviation. The existing method, which injects the reactive current of 2.5-5% to the rated current and detects the frequency deviation directly, brings about lowing the power quality due to the harmonic pollution. The proposed method eliminates the weak point of the existing method, because it injects the reactive current less than 1% to the rated current. The operational feasibility was verified through computer simulations with PSCAD/EMTDC software, and experimental works with a 10kVA hardware prototype. The proposed method can detect the islanding status effectively without lowing the power quality of interconnected distributed generation system.

In this paper, among the active islanding detection techniques, the modified active frequency drift method was analyzed, which is relatively easy to apply to the single-phase grid-connected PV PCS. The existing designs for turbulences in these applications were empirically conducted, and do not have sufficient reliability and performance. Therefore, three application forms of the modified active frequency drift technique were modeled, based on which the proper magnitude of turbulence, which is the frequency acceleration component, was calculated. Using the results, the magnitude of and injection method for turbulence for ensuring the islanding detection performance and improving the output power quality were proposed, and they were verified via simulations and experiment to prove that the reliable islanding detection technique can be developed merely by measuring the basic output power quality, without the need for expensive islanding simulation equipment.
In this paper, discrete wavelet transform using a PV system covers how the detection of a islanding. Connection point occur exclusively in Grid when the grid voltage and current operation of the wavelet coefficients by changing features will determine if islanding operation. The proposed method has simple computation and fast decision time has the advantage. DSP-based controller through the experiment proved the validity of the proposed method.

Prevention of the islanding phenomena is one of the most important issues because it can damage electrical equipment connected to the utility system and endanger human life. It is very difficult to detect an islanding condition of a power distribution line with conventional voltage of frequency relays, while the output power and the load power of utility interactive PV inverter units are in nearly balanced state in both active power and reactive power. This paper describes the protective equipment that prevents the PV system connected to the utility grid from starting islanding. Both predictive ocntrol method and harmonic injection method are used for a current control and islanding detection for operating safety.
