옥살산 기반의 비소오염토양 정화 연구 (Oxalic Acid-based Remediation of Arsenic-contaminated Soil)

  • Arsenic (As) usually is bound to amorphous iron oxides in the soils, and it can be removed via dissolution of iron oxides. Inorganic acid and chelating agent are widely used to extract As in the soil washing. However, the overall performance is highly dependent on the state of As fractionation. In this study, oxalic acid and inorganic acids (HCl, $H_2SO_4$, and $H_3PO_4$) were applied to enhance the dissolution of iron oxides for remediation of As-contaminated soils. Oxalic acid was most effective to extract As from soils and removal of As was two times greater than other inorganic acids. Additionally, 75% of As bound to amorphous iron oxides was removed by 0.2 M oxalic acid. Arsenic removal by oxalic acid was directly proportional to the sum of labile fractions of As instead of the total concentration of As. Therefore, the oxalic acid could extract most As bound to amorphous iron oxides.

철환원 미생물을 이용한 3가 철의 환원에 관한 연구 (Microbial Reduction of Iron(III) Oxides: Implication for Permeable Reactive Barriers.)

  • Remediation of groundwater using zero valent iron filings has received considerable attention in recent years. However, zero valent iron is gradually transformed to iron(III) oxides at permeable reactive barriers, so the reduction of iron(III) oxides can enhance the longevity of the reactive barriers. In this study, microbial reduction of Fe(III) was performed in anaerobic condition. A medium contained nutrients similar to soil solution. The medium was autoclaved and deoxygenated by purging with 99.99% $N_2$ and pH was buffered to 6, while the temperature was regulated as 2$0^{\circ}C$. Activity of iron reducing bacteria were not affected by chlorinated organics but affected by iron(III) oxide. Although perchloroethylene(PCE) was not degraded with only ferric oxide, PCE was reduced to around 50% with ferric oxide and microorganism. It shows that reduced iron can dechlorinate PCE.

수계내 저질에 대한 구리 및 카드뮴의 분배 특성 (Characteristics of Copper and Cadmium Partitioning in Aquatic Sediment)

  • 수계내 저질에 대한 구리 및 카드융의 분배 특 성을 검토하기 위하여 선택적 연속추출법에 의해 실험한 결과 다음과 같았다. 저질에 분배된 구리는 pH의 변화에 따라 carbo¬n nate 상과 exchangeable/adsorbed 상이 영향을 많이 받았으며 카드륨은 carbonate 상이 영향을 많이 받았다. 그리고 NTA와 EDTA가 함께 존재할 때 구리와 카로융 모두 carbonate 상과 결합한 것이 가장 많이 해리되어 수중으로 이동하였다. 저질과 결합한 금속량과 평형농도 사이의 구리와 카드륨의 총괄적인 분배계수는 구리가 8.361이었 으며 카드륨이 0.497이었다. 저질내 각 고형상에 분배된 크기를 분배계수로 나타내면 구리의 경우는 carbonate, organic matter, exchangeable/adsorbed, manganese oxides 그리고 iron oxides 차례로 컸으며, 카드뮴의 경우는 exchangeable/adsorbed, carbonate, manganese oxides, organic matter 그리고 iron oxides 차례로 컸다. organic matter 상은 구리와는 달리 카드륨에서는 분배에 크게 기여하지 않았다.

수분사 Fe 분말의 산화물 및 이의 수소가스 환원거동 (Hydrogen Reduction Behavior of Oxide Scale in Water-atomized Iron Powder)

  • In this study, the reduction kinetics and behaviors of oxides in the water-atomized iron powder have been evaluated as a function of temperature ranging $850-1000^{\circ}C$ in hydrogen environment, and compared to the reduction behaviors of individual iron oxides including $Fe_2O_3$, $Fe_3O_4$ and FeO. The water-atomized iron powder contained a significant amount of iron oxides, mainly $Fe_3O_4$ and FeO, which were formed as a partially-continuous surface layer and an inner inclusion. During hydrogen reduction, a significant weight loss in the iron powder occurred in the initial stage of 10 min by the reduction of surface oxides, and then further reduction underwent slowly with increasing time. A higher temperature in the hydrogen reduction promoted a high purity of iron powder, but no significant change in the reduction occurred above $950^{\circ}C$. Sequence reduction process by an alternating environment of hydrogen and inert gases effectively removed the oxide scale in the iron powder, which lowered reduction temperature and/or shortened reduction time.

도자기 소지구성 산화철, 산화마그네슘이 유약과의 반응 (Reaction Iron Oxide and Magnesium Oxide in Ceramics Body with Glaze)

  • This is the study on diffusion of ceramic body oxide compounds to glaze. For ceramic bodies, no ferrous oxides contain white ware, celadon, and 3 wt% iron oxides contained white ware was used in this experiment. These ceramic bodies were glazed by transparency glaze, iron oxides contained glaze, and glaze made by pine tree ash that treated in 1240 degree, under reduction condition for an hour. An electron probe microanalyzer(EPMA) was used to study diffusion of oxides and to calculate distance of ceramics bodies. As a result, only iron oxide and magnesium oxide from the body diffused to glaze, and also made a band which shown very thin layer of iron oxide and magnesium oxide between the body and glaze. The densest band of iron oxide formed 100 to $150{\mu}m$ in the glaze, and the densest band of magnesium oxide was found 50 to $100{\mu}m$ in the glaze. Therefore, it could be concluded that iron oxide in the body is diffused to the glaze and it affects the color of glaze, even though iron oxide exists in the glaze. Furthermore, the thickness of the glaze has an effect on the color of celadon.

  • The magnetic properties of calcined Sr-ferrites, related to the iron oxides, produced from three different process in steel plants, have been investigated. The powder f.characteristics of iron oxides are much affected on the magnetic properties of calcined Sr-ferrite Powders. It was possible to improve the magnetic property of calcined Sr-ferrites with the iron oxide powders of small size and narrow size distribution. The maximum magnetic properties of calcined Sr-ferrites, showing 69 emu/g of saturation magnetization and 4020 Oe of intrinsic coercivity, are achieved at the following conditions; the iron oxides from the chemirite process(EP), mole ratio of 5.8, and calcination condition of 120$0^{\circ}C$/1hr.

자동차용 마찰재에서 철산화물이 마찰특성에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (The Effect of Iron Oxides $(Fe_2O_3,\;Fe_3O_4)$ on Tribological Characteristics of Automotive Friction Materials)

  • The relationship between friction characteristics and iron oxides at the sliding interface was investigated. Three friction materials containing iron, magnetite $(Fe_3O_4)$ or hematite $(Fe_2O_3)$ were manufactured and friction tests were performed on gray cast iron disks to evaluate the friction coefficient as a function of sliding speed $\mu-\nu$. In-situ noise spectrum analyzer was employed to compare noise propensity during friction tests. Results show that the specimens with magnetite are more sensitive to velocity than those with iron or hematite. The specimens containing magnetite and hematite generated noise with different peaks in the spectrum. The difference in the peak frequency seems attributed to the different surface aggressiveness of iron oxides and intermittent changes of real contact area at the sliding interface during sliding. Surface morphology and roughness of the counter disc after the tests are also consistent with the aggressiveness of iron oxides.

철기 유물 부식 산화물 처리제의 제조 (Manufacturing of a Treatment Agent for Corrosion Oxides of Iron Relics)

  • 금속은 우리 인류 문화 발전에 많은 영향을 준 재료이며, 과거에서부터 현재까지 우리 생활에 밀접한 연관이 있는 재료이다. 선사시대부터 사용해온 금속의 종류는 다양하며 우리나라의 출토 금속 유물 중 철기유물이 가장 큰 비중을 차지하고 있다. 출토 유물에서 전승 유물에 이르기까지 철기 유물들의 존재를 가장 크게 위협하는 것이 부식 진행 과정이며, 부식된 산화물을 제거하기 위해서는 현재 물리적인 제거 방법이 가장 많이 사용되고 있다. 본 논문은 부식 산화물을 제거하는 작업에 대한 내용으로 철기 유물 자체의 모재는 보호하면서 부식 산화물만을 처리하는 화학적 부식 산화물 제거제에 대하여 연구하고자 하였다. 철기 유물의 부식 산화물에 대한 보다 안전하고 효과적인 제거를 위해, 새로운 산성, 알칼리성, 중성의 산화물 제거제를 제조하고, 이의 조성을 다양하게 변화하면서 철기 유물의 부식 산화물 제거 가능성과 최적화된 조성을 찾는 것에 목표를 두고 실행하였으며 근대 유물에 적용하여 그 가능성까지를 검토하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 산성 처리 용액의 경우 철 시편 표면에 산화된 부식물은 일부만이 제거되는 결과를 나타내었다. 둘째, 알칼리성과 중성 처리 용액의 경우 검은색의 부식물이 남은 상태였으나 이는 처리 시간과 처리 용액의 양을 증가시키면 이들도 제거되는 결과를 나타내었다. 셋째, 이 세 종류 용액은 처리 시에 모두 모재 자체에 손상을 주지 않았으며 용액의 농도와 처리 시간의 조절만으로도 유물에 따른 상황 대처가 가능하여 모재나 안정화 부식층을 보호하면서 불안정한 산화물층만을 제거할 수 있는 결과를 나타내었다.

  • 다양한 hard ferrite용 국산 산화철(${\alpha}Fe_2O_3$)의 분체특성이 Sr-ferrite의 자기특성에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 산화철의 평균입도와 입도분호는 철강 냉연공장의 염산폐액 정제방법에 따라 서로 구분되었으며, Sr-ferrite의 자기특성과 미세조직에 큰 영향을 주었다. Ruthner 산화철의 응집현상은 Sr-ferrite의 포화자화를 감소시켰으며, Chemirite(CY) 산화철의 $0.80{\mu}\textrm{m}$이상의 조대한 입자는 Sr-ferrite의 고유보자력을 감소시켰다. 평균입도가 $0.14\mu\textrm{m}$로 가장 작은 Chemirite 포항2냉연(EP) 산화철을 사용하여, 5.8mol, $1150^{\circ}C$/1시간의 하소조건에서 제조된 Sr-ferrite는 포화자화가 68.2emu/g, 고유보자력이 4300Oe인 최적의 자기특성을 나타내었다.

Purification of Iron Oxides and Application to Magnetic Hard Ferrite

  • Hematite iron ore and waste iron oxide sludge containing about 3-5 wt% $SiO_2$ were purified by three types of method developed on the basis of the Bayer process which is known as the purification process of bauxite ore. The basic principle of the developed methods lies in the fact that the impurities contained in the iron oxides, such as $SiO_2$ and $Al_2O_3$ are soluble in the alkaline reagents. Reaction of the raw materials with KOH was done in pressure vessel, at atmospheric pressure, and by both of these two. By the pressure vessel method $SiO_2$ content was reduced to below 0.5 wt% in the waste iron oxide sludge, while, in iron ore, $SiO_2$ remained at 2-3 wt%. The atmospheric pressure reaction rendered the waste iron oxide sludge $SiO_2$ content below 0.5wt% when the reaction temperature increased to above 90$0^{\circ}C$. The combined method of two previous methods was the most effective process and rendered the refined iron oxide about 300-400ppm of $SiO_2$. Using some refined iron oxides, Ba-ferrite was produced and magnetic properties were measured. The highest quality of magnetic properties obtained in this study were Br=2.09 G, bHc=1.99 KOe, iHc=4.54 KOe, $(BH)_{max}$=1.06 MGOe. Effect of sintering condition and chemical composition will be discussed.
