A large amount of waste copper slag containing about 35 ~ 45% iron has been generated and discarded every year from pyrometallurgical processes for producing copper from copper concentrate. Thus, recovery of iron from the waste copper slag is of great interest for comprehensive use of mineral resource and reduction of environment problems. In this study, a physico-chemical separation process for upgrading iron from the waste copper slag discharged as an industrial waste has been developed. The process first crushes the waste copper slag below 1 mm (first crushing step), followed by carbon reduction at $1225^{\circ}C$ for 90 min (carbon reduction step). And then, resulting material is again crushed to $-104{\mu}m$ (second crushing step), followed by wet magnetic separation (wet magnetic separation step). Using the developed process, a magnetic product containing more than 66 wt.% iron was obtained from the magnetic separation under a magnetic field strength of 0.2 T for the waste copper slag treated by the reduction reaction. At the same conditions, the percentage recovery of iron was over 72%. The iron rich magnetic product obtained should be used as a iron resource for making pig iron.
The Bupyeong Silver mine which is located approximately 35km west of Seoul is currently the leading silver producer in Korea. The deposits occur as stockwork deposits hosted in Jurassic pyroclastic rocks. Occurrences of ore deposits and mineral paragenesis suggest a division of mineralization into four stages: Stage I, deposition of iron oxide and base metal sulfides; Stage II, deposition of tin oxide and silverm inerals; stage III, deposition of native silver and other silver minerals; Stage IV, formation of pyrite bearing siderite veinlets, Silver minerals in ore are native silver, argentite, freibergite, pyrargyrite, canfieldite, polybasite, dyscrasite and Ag-Fe-S mineral. The most important silver mineral is native silver among them. Chemical composition of important silver minerals were determined by electron probe microanalyser. Assay, size and modal analyses for floatation products were carried out. In floatation products, relative proportion of native silver for total important silver minerals have following ranges: feed, 64.7 to 74.74 wt.%; A-cleaner concentrate, 80.58 to 98.79 wt.%; and final tailing, 28.12 to 72. 57 wt. %. Average degree of liberation for native silver in feed and A-cleaner concentrate are 60.49% and 77.57% respectively. Negative relationship can be recognized between native silver and argentite in their abundance and behavior in floatation precesses.
Magnetic beads (Dynabeads$^{(R)}$) embedded in ~1 micron size polystyrene beads bearing surface carboxylic acid groups were modified with aminobenzyl ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (ABEDTA) to concentrate or separate metal ions using pH gradients on micro and nano scales. The immobilization of ABEDTA was achieved by amide formation. The presence of the metal chelating functional group in the fully deprotonated form was confirmed by FT-IR. The chelation efficiency of beads was tested by determining metal ions in supernatant using GFAAS when pH gradients from 3 to 7. Mixtures of Cu and Mg and of Cd and Mn (at 10 ng/mL of metal) were separated as the difference in formation constant with the functional group of ABEDTA. The separation was repeated twice with relative standard deviation of <18%. A polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) microchip column packed with EDTA-coated magnetic beads was optimized to concentrate metal ion for practical applications by eluting a Cu solution of micro scale at pH 3.

Objective: This study was conducted to identify the cause of suffocation accident. Methods: We analyzed the components of zinc concentrates by ICP-OES (inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy) and tested the oxygen consumption by zinc concentrates in a 13.2-liter closed chamber. Results: Zinc, sulfur and iron were the main components of the four types of zinc concentrates, and accounted for 76~89% by weight. Zinc concentrates (0.5 or 0.927 kg) depleted the oxygen concentration from 20.9% to 7.4~18.9% during seven days. The rate of oxygen consumption was in the range of 3.0~11.0 mM/day·kg-sample at 21~24℃ and around 95% of free air space within the closed chamber. Conclusion: Since zinc concentrate consumes oxygen in a confined space, measures should be taken to prevent suffocation accident (such as ventilation and monitoring of oxygen concentration).
The production results of the oriental functional beverage, which is aimed at reducing the alcohol concentration in blood, are as follows. Different kinds of herb medicine ingredients were combined to achieve the balance between Yin And Yang. They were grouped according to their respective characteristics and extracted by heat, Then they were combined and produced following the most effective mixture ratio. The drink produced by this way consisted mainly of water, Sugar, mineral, protein and fiber were partially contained. Among the minerals, the proportion of calcium, potassium, magnesium was high and iron was also contained. This drink turned out to be effective in reducing the alcohol concentration in blood within a very short time when it was taken once after drinking and taken aging 30 minutes later, which would double the dosage. This result shows that development of such a functional beverage using the herbal medicine, At the same time it will play an important part in reducing the alcohol concentrate in blood after drinking liquors.

Mechanical alloying (MA) is a powder metallurgy processing technique involving cold welding, fracturing, and rewelding of powder particles in a high-energy ball mill. This has now become an established commercial technique in producing oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) nickel- and iron-based materials. The technique of MA is also capable of synthesizing non-equilibrium phases such as supersaturated solid solutions, metastable crystalline and quasicrystalline intermetallic phases, nanostructures, and amorphous alloys. In this respect, the capabilities of MA are similar to those of another important non-equilibrium processing technique, viz, rapid quenching of metallic melts. however, the science of MA is being investigated only during the past ten years or so. The technique of mechanochemistry, on the other hand, has had a long history and the materials produced this way have found a number of technological applications, e.g., in areas such as hydrogen storage materials, heaters, gas absorber, fertilizers. catalysts, cosmetics, and waste management. The present talk will concentrate on the basic mechanisms of formation of non-equilibrium phases by the technique of MA and these aspects will be compared with those of rapid quenching of metallic melts. Additionally, the variety of technological applications of mechanically alloyed products will be highlighted.
In recovering copper from the copper converter slag, various separation methods, such as flotation, sieving and magnetic separation had been tried. The copper converter slag used in this study was prepared in two ways, i.e. 2 hour cooled and 10 hour cooled. From the flotation of copper slag, 45% Cu concentrate is obtained and the amount of copper recovery is about 93%. Before the flotation, copper in the slag could be also pre-recovered using sieving and separation. It is also found that as the content of copper in the concentrate increa-ses, that of arsenic increase, while zinc and iron contents decrease.
The study was conducted to develop a vanadium recovery process using reduction pre-treatment in the Vanadium TitanoMagnetite (VTM) The sample for the research was provided by the Gwan-in Mine in Pocheon, Gyeonggi-do. The vanadium content of the sample is 0.54 V2O5% and vanadium is concentrated mainly in magnetite and ilmenite. Magnetic separation of the sample can increase vanadium content up to 1.10 V2O5%. To increase the vanadium content further, reduction pre-treatment was performed, which is a process of concentrating vanadium present in the iron by reducing iron in magnetite using carbon(C). Based on this reduction pre-treatment, the magnetic separation process was developed, which achieved a vanadium grade of 1.31V2O5% and 79.68% recovery. In addition, XRD analysis of the vanadium concentrate before and after reduction and the final vanadium concentrate was performed to confirm the behavior of vanadium by reduction pre-treatment.
As is in all economic activities, the highest yield per unit area is the main goal in animal production, while addressing the temperamental needs of animals often is ignored. Animal welfare is not only an ethical fact; it also has an economic value. Spatial environmental enrichment contributes positively to animal welfare by addressing their behavioral and mental requirements. The present study was conducted to determine the effects of weaning and spatial environmental arrangements on behaviors of goat-kids. Experimental groups were arranged in structured and unstructured spatial environments. Roughage feeder, semi-automatic concentrate feeder, bunk, bridge, and wood block were placed in the structured environment. No equipment was placed in the unstructured environment and paddock sides were enclosed with an iron sheet to prevent bipedal stance and to provide environmental isolation. In the study 10 male and 10 female Turkish Saanen goat kids were used in each group. Spatial environmental arrangements did not have significant impacts on the growth performance of kids (p>0.05). All objects in the structured group were accepted by the kids. Average use ratios of roughage feeder, semi-automatic concentrate feeder, bunk, bridge and wood block were observed as 19.3%, 14.0%, 12.6%, 3.8%, and 0.7%, respectively. There were significant differences between before- and after-weaning in use of all objects except for underneath bridge ($p{\leq}0.05$). Concentrate feed consumption, locomotion, and resting behaviors in kids showed significant differences by structural group and growth period. Roughage consumption was similar between groups, while it differed by growth period ($p{\leq}0.05$). Interaction frequency was significantly higher in structured group (p = 0.0023). Playing behavior significantly differentiated based on the growth period rather than on groups ($p{\leq}0.05$). Playing behavior significantly decreased after weaning. Abnormal oral activity was significantly higher in the structured group before weaning ($p{\leq}0.05$). Despite there being no installations facilitating climbing and bipedal stance, the kids of the unstructured group were able to exhibit 1/3 as much bipedal stance behavior as the kids of the structured group through leaning over slippery paddock wall or over their groupmates. Bipedal stance behavior of unstructured group was similar before and after weaning, while bipedal stance behavior before weaning was about 2 times that of after weaning in structured group. It was concluded that unstructured environmental arrangement limited the behavior repertoire of the goat kids.
The extracts drawn out from Artemisia princeps by water was concentrated. Using this concentrate the silk and the cotton fabrics were dyed, and they were measured with the K/S value, surface color and mordant quantity in order to evaluate the dyeability and the antimicrobial activity. The results are as follows; 1. The K/S value of the silk fabric was much higher than that of the cotton fabric. And the color yield of the dyed silk fabric was most efficient for the premordanting method. 2. The surface colors on the dyed fabric depended heavily upon mordants used or mordanting methods. For all cases, the value of the dyed fabric was generally dark. For the Cr-mordant among various mordants, the chroma produced clear and the color difference was distinct when using the Fe-mordant. 3. On the other hand the amount of absorbed mordant in the silk fabric was larger than that of the cotton fabric. And the Cu-mordant was most efficient. 4. The color fastness was significantly improved when mordants were added. Cr-mordant improved best in all of the dry cleaning, wet cleaning and perspiration fastness. Iron and abrasion fastness showed over 4-5 grade regardless of any mordant. And light fastness was best in Cu-mordant. 5. The Cu-mordant showed the greatest antimicrobial activity in both of mordant treat silk and cotton fabrics.
