  • Langmuir probe was housed in the sounding rocket to test the probe's performance and to find the environmental parameters at the F layer of the ionosphere. The gold plated cylindrical probe had a length of 14㎝ and a diameter of 0.096 ㎝. The applied voltage to the probe consisted of 0.9 sec fixed positive bias followed by 0.1 sec of down/up sweep. This ensured that the probe swept through the probe's current-voltage characteristic at least once during 1 second quiescent periods enabling the electron temperature to be measured during the undisturbed times of the flight. The experimental results showed good agreement of the temperature distribution with IRI model at the lower F layer. In the upper layer, the experimental temperatures were 100-200K lower than the IRI model's because of the different geomagnetic conditions: averaged conditions were used in IRI model and specific conditions were reflected in the experiment.

  • Compylobacter fetus subsp. jejuni infection in Korea has been reported in 1981, but the epidemiological information was lacking at the report. Therefore this study was undertaken to determine the Campylobacter carrier rate of the healthy Korean and of the Korean chicknens, and the antimicrobial susceptibity of the isolates from chicken. 129 stool samples from man and 296 fecal samples from chicken were collected and screened to determine the rates of Campylobacter carrier. Forty-four chicken isolates from Seoul and 30 chicken isolates from Iri city were examined the antimicrobial susceptibility. 1. The carrier rate in were examined the antimicrobial susceptibility 2. The isolation rates of the Campylobacter from Iri chickens were 50.3%. The highest rate was 76.3% on February and July, while the lowest rate ws 20.7% on March. 3. All of chicken isolates from Seoul and Iri were susceptible to amikacin and chromphenicol. 63.3% of the Seoul samples showed resistant to erythromycin.

  • Crack and seat method has been used in United States to prevent reflection cracks of overlay that may be caused by excessive movement at discontinuity of old concrete pavement. This method provide optium space of discontinuity by generating additional discontinuity in old concrete pavement. In this study the effect of various factors on the performance such as IRI and distress at after applying crack and seat method were investigated by using LTPP data.

  • Leaf characteristics of main stem and tiller of IK type maize (IK/ /IRI/B68) were compared with those of Jinjoo Ok hybrid which are not usually tillered. A total of nine leaves from flag leaf to the third or the fourth leaf below ear-bearing node were sampled from each stem or tiller. There was no significant difference in mean leaf length between IK/ /IRI/B68 and Jinjoo Ok. But the mean leaf width of IK/ /IRI/ B68 was about 2 cm narrower than that of Jinjoo Ok. The mean leaf area of the IK/ /IRI/B68 was also smaller than that of Jinjoo Ok due to the narrower leaf width. There were not significant differences in mean leaf characteristics between main stem and tillers of IK/IRI/B68. The longest leaf was the leaf below the ear-bearing node and the widest leaf was the leaf just above the ear-bearing node. Mean length. width and area of leaf on main stem and tillers were similar. Coefficients of variation calculated for individual leaf indicated that the leaves near the ear-bearing node were more uniform than others. The leaf area measured was significantly greater than that estimated by formular, length x width x 0.75. New constant to estimate leaf area of tillering maize was derived as 0.8.

  • Marine deposite soil was studied to evaluate morohological changes of paddy rice under subdrainage control. The content of organic and inorganic mate rial were low at high temperature in the mid-summer. This soil lacked air and accumulated more H$_2$ S. Thus rice root was rotted with high infection of virus and insect and yield was relatively low.

  • Considering the tradeoff between energy consumption and outage behavior in buffer-aided relay selection, a novel energy-efficient buffer-aided optimal relay selection scheme with power adaptation and Inter-Relay Interference (IRI) cancellation is proposed. In the proposed scheme, energy consumption minimization is the objective with the consideration of relay buffer state, outage probability and relay power control, in order to eliminate IRI. The proposed scheme selects a pair of optimal relays from multiple candidate relays, denoted as optimal receive relay and optimal transmit relay respectively. Source-relay and relay-destination communications can be performed within a time-slot, which performs as Full-Duplex (FD) relaying. Markov chain model is applied to analyze the evolution of relay buffer states. System steady state outage probability and achievable diversity order are derived respectively. In addition, packet transmission delay and power reduction performance are investigated with a specific analysis. Numerical results show that the proposed scheme outperforms other relay selection schemes in terms of outage behavior with power adaptation and IRI cancellation in the same relay number and buffer size scenario. Compared with Buffer State relay selection method, the proposed scheme reduces transmission delay significantly with the same amount of relays. Average transmit power reduction can be implemented to relays with the increasing of relay number and buffer size, which realizes the tradeoff between energy-efficiency, outage behavior and delay performance in green cooperative communications.

  • The ionospheric delay is currently one of the most significant error sources in precise GNSS surveys. The users of single-frequency receivers should apply some kind of ionospheric correction algorithms to remove or model the ionospheric delay. For real-time correction of the ionospheric delay, one can use Klobuchar or NeQuick model provided by navigation messages of GPS and Galileo, respectively. We evaluated the performance of those models by comparing their effectiveness at different seasons and latitudes. For the first test, we computed the vertical total electron content (VTEC) at the permanent GPS site SUWN for four different seasons. As the second test, we picked three sites in Korea (CHLW, SUWN, JEJU) with high, medium, and low latitudes and evaluated the dependency of VTEC on the site latitude. Computed VTEC values were compared with those from the IRI model and Global Ionosphere Maps (GIM). The root-mean-square (RMS) differences of Klobuchar and NeQuick with respect to IRI and GIM were analyzed. As a result, without regard to season and latitude, the RMS differences of NeQuick models were smaller than that of Klobuchar by about 0.01~3.50 TECU.

  • In this paper, the 3-dimensional microstrip antenna, where the lis is attached near the patch, on the pound and both patch and ground in zigzag, is designed and fabricated to miniaturize size of antenna. The path of surface current and permittivity in patch are increased because of attached Iris near the patch, on the pound and patch and found. In particula., the maximum size reduction effect among the three-type of $79.1\%$(17 mm$\times$90 mm) was presented in zigzag-type compared with the rectangular microstrip patch antenna(MPA) with a height of 9 mm at the resonant frequency of 1.575 GHz. The gain showed -1.15 dBd, -10 dB bandwidth showed 6.2$\%$(98 MHz), and HPBW of E-plane showed $154^{\circ}$. As that result we could confirm that the 3-dimensional structure with attached Irises is the proper form for the miniaturization of microstrip antenna.

  • Knowledge of the ionospheric peak parameter foF2 (the critical frequency of F2 layer) is one of key essential factors for predicting ionospheric characteristics and delay correction of satellite positioning. However, the foF2 was almost estimated using an empirical model of International Reference Ionosphere (IRI) or other expensive observing techniques, such as ionosondes and scatter radar. In this paper, the ionospheric peak parameter foF2 is the first observed by ground-based GPS with all weather, low-cost and near real time properties. Compared with the IRI-2001 and independent ionosondes at or near the GPS receiver stations, the foF2 obtained from ground-based GPS is in better agreement, but closer to the ionosonde. However, during nighttime, the IRI model overestimated the GPS observed values during winter and equinox months.Furthermore, seasonal variation trend of the foF2 in 2003 is studied using foF2 monthly median hourly data measured over South Korea. It has shown that the systematic diurnal changes of foF2 are apparent in each season and the higher values of foF2 are observed during the equinoxes (semiannual anomaly) as well as in mid-daytime of each season.
