광주지역 고농도 및 황사 시의 미세먼지 화학적 성분 특성 (Characteristics of PM Chemical Component during Haze Episode and Asian Dust at Gwang-ju)

  • The aerosol characteristics between haze episode and Asian dust event were identified in January and March, 2013 in Gwang-ju of Korea to investigate the metal elements, ionic concentrations and carbonaceous particles of $PM_{2.5}$ and $PM_{10}$. In the haze episode, the concentrations were increased 1~3.2 times of ionic species and 1.6~2.7 of metal elements. Especially, the concentration of $NO{_3}{^-}$, $SO{_4}{^2-}$ and $NH{_4}{^+}$ consists of 50 percent in ionic species during haze episode that was higher than Asian dust event. This suggests that secondary aerosols from anthropogenic air pollution were mainly contributed by haze episode. During the Asian dust event, increase of metal concentrations was higher than haze episode because of remarkable increase of Ti, K and Fe originated from soil. The concentrations of carbonaceous particles were increased 2.5 times during haze episode, and 2.4 times of OC and 2.1 times of EC during Asian dust event in $PM_{2.5}$. However, these aerosol mass concentration does not affect the OC/EC ratio. The average equivalence ratios of cations/anions in $PM_{2.5}$ were 0.99 in haze episodes and 0.94 during non-event day. The neutralization factor of $NH_3$ was higher than that of $CaCO_3$. Futhermore, $NH{_4}{^+}$ aerosol was aged due to atmospheric stagnation that might be affected by the haze episode.

제주시 도심지역 미세먼지의 화학적 조성 특성 (Chemical Composition of Fine Particulate Matter in the Downtown Area of Jeju City)

  • This study observed particulate matter ($PM_{2.5}$ and $PM_{10}$) in the downtown area of Jeju City, South Korea, to understand the chemical composition of particulates based on an analysis of the water-soluble ionic species contained in the particles. The mass fraction of the ionic species in the sampled $PM_{10}$ and $PM_{2.5}$ was 44.3% and 42.2%, respectively. In contrast, in Daegu City and Suwon City, the mass fraction of the ionic species in $PM_{2.5}$ was higher than that in $PM_{10}$. The chloride depletion percentage of $PM_{10}$ and $PM_{2.5}$ in Jeju City was higher than 61% and 66%, respectively. The contribution of sea-salt to the mass of $PM_{10}$ (5.9%) and $PM_{2.5}$ (2.6%) in Jeju City was similar to that in several coastal regions of South Korea. The mass ratio of $Cl^-$ to $Na^+$ in the downtown area of Jeju City was comparable to that in some coastal regions, such as the Gosan Area of Jeju Island, Deokjeok Island, and Taean City. The mass fraction of sea-salt in $PM_{10}$ and $PM_{2.5}$ was very low, and the concentration of sodium and chloride ions in $PM_{10}$ was not correlated with those in $PM_{2.5}$ ($R^2$ < 0.2), suggesting that the effects of sea-salt on the formation of particulate matter in Jeju City might be insignificant. The relationship between $NH_4{^+}$ and several anions such as $SO_4{^{2-}}$, $NO_3{^-}$, and $Cl^-$, as well as the relationship between the measurement and calculation of ammonium ion concentration, suggested that sea-salts may not react with $H_2SO_4$, and $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ may be a major secondary inorganic aerosol component of $PM_{2.5}$ and $PM_{10}$ in Jeju City.

  • Monohydrogen arsenate를 전위차법으로 직접 정량하기 위하여 네가지 성분인 $Ag_2S$-PbS-$PbHAsO_4-Cu_2S$와 세가지 성분인 $Ag_2S$-PbS-$PbHAsO_4$로 된 전극이 제조되어 평가되었다. $Ag_2S$:PbS:$PbHAsO_4:Cu_2S$의 성분비(몰비)가 2.0:0.5:1.0:0.25인 전극이 전위차 감응, 안정도, 감응 속도와 재현성이 우수하였다. 0.1F $NH_4A_C-NH_4OH$ 완중용액 중의 일정한 이온 강도와 pH 8.50으로 조정된 $10^{-1}$~$10^{-4}M\;HA_SO_4^{2-}$ 농도 범위에서 실험하였고, $CN^-,\;I^-,\;S^{-2}$$Cl^-$등이 방해하였다.

  • 단일벽 탄소나노튜브와 전기전도성 폴리머로 구성된 복합재 엑츄에이터의 변형율-전압간의 관계식이 유도되었으며, 얇은 복합재 필름 형태의 엑츄에이터의 전기기계적인 작동을 수식화하기 위해서 전기화학적 이온 접근법을 사용하였다. 이 방법은 엑츄에이터의 작동에 대한 이해를 쉽게 할 수 있다. 실험결과와 계산결과는 잘 일치한다. 이상적으로 잘 배열된 단일벽 탄소나노튜브 엑츄에이터는 좋은 반응특성과 작동력을 나타내었다. 작동변위는 나노튜브와 기지인 폴리머의 영향을 받으며, 단일벽 탄소나노튜브는 양의 전압에서는 기지를 보강하며 음의 전압에서는 기지를 수축하게 하는 영향을 미친다. 나노튜브의 배열을 곧게하고, 적절한 전해질과 전압을 선택하면 엑츄에이터의 성능을 최적화시킬 수 있다.

Lithspermic acid-A slows down the inactivation kinetics of cardiac $Na^+$ current by intracellular $Ca^{2+}$-dependent mechanisms

  • Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix has been used for treatment of cardiovascular diseases in oriental medicine. To investigate the possible involvement of cardiac ion channel in this effect, we examined electrophysiological effects of the extract of Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix on action potentials and ionic currents in rat ventricular myocytes. The extracts of Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix were fractionated into nine fractions, and the effect of each fraction on action potential was tested. The fraction containing monomethyl lithospermic acid-A (LSA-A) induced a significant prolongation of action potential duration (APD). LSA-B which is a major component of Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix, however, did not cause a significant effect. In voltage clamp experiments, the effects of LSA-A on K currents, Ca currents and Na currents were tested. Neither K currents nor L-type Ca currents were affected by LSA-A. On the contrary, LSA-A significantly slowed down the inactivation kinetics of the Na current with no effect on the fast component of the inactivation process. The amplitude of the peak current and the voltage-dependence of activation were not changed by LSA-A. The effect of LSA-A on Na current was abolished when high concentration of $Ca^{2+}$ buffer (10 mM BAPTA) was included in the pipette solution or when Ca2+ current was blocked by nicardipine (1 $\mu$M) in the bath solution.n.

  • Samples with nominal compositions of $RuSr_2(Eu_{1.34-x}Tb_xCe_{0.66})Cu_2O_z$ (x = 0, 0.67) were prepared and their superconductivity and magnetic properties were compared to shed light on the effect of Tb substitution for Eu. X-ray diffraction measurements indicate that the Tb substitution resulted in a decrease in both a and c lattice parameters in consistent with ionic size difference between Eu and Tb. Contrary to the Tb-free sample, no superconducting transition behavior is observed in the Tb-sustituted sample. It is also found that the Tb substitution for Eu significantly increases the weak-ferromagnetic component of the field-cooled magnetic susceptibility as well as an increase in the magnetic ordering temperature. These results suggest that the magnetic state of the Ru sublattice is significantly affected by the Tb substitution for Eu.

인삼(人蔘) 단백성분의 생화학적성질(生化學的性質)에 관한 연구 (Studies on the Biochemical Nature of the Protein Constituents of Panax Ginseng Root)

  • The biochemical nature of the protein constituents of six year old fresh Panax ginseng root was studied. Total protein constituents were extracted with phosphate buffer of pH 7.4, ionic strength of 0.1 and fractionated by ultrafiltration using four different membranes which cut down the materials of molecular weight of 500, 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000, respectively. Each fraction was subjected to ion exchange chromatography using DEAE - cellulose to isolate component proteins. The protein fraction larger than molecular weight of 10,000 was refractionated by the method of ammonium sulfate precipitation. The electrophoresis of the refractionated protein constituents was performed. The amino acid composition of the protein constituents was determined by gas- liquid chromatography. From the results, it could be summarized that eleven different protein constituents smaller than molecular weight of 10,000 were isolated from the fresh Panax ginseng root. At least eleven different protein constituents larger than molecular weight of 10,000 were identified from the electrophoretic patterns. These protein costituents seem to be compounded of all or some of five different subunits.

제주시 도심지역에서 여름과 겨울의 PM2.5 이온조성 특성 (Ionic Compositions of PM2.5 during Summer and Winter in the Downtown Area of Jeju City in Jeju Island)

  • Chemical properties of aerosols were investigated by analyzing the inorganic water-soluble content in $PM_{2.5}$ collected in the downtown area of Jeju City in Jeju Island. Due to an increase in both the number of visiting tourists and the size of local population, the number of cars in this area is increasing, causing an increase in $PM_{2.5}$. Eight $PM_{2.5}$-bound major inorganic ions were analyzed during the summer and winter periods. The water-soluble inorganic component represents a significant fraction of $PM_{2.5}$. In particular, secondary inorganic aerosols contribute 36.2% and 47.5% of $PM_{2.5}$ mass in summer and winter, respectively. Nitrate concentrations increase for $[NH_4{^+}]/[SO_4{^{2-}}]$>1.5, and excess ammonium, which is necessary for ammonium nitrate formation, is linearly correlated with nitrate. These results are clearly observed during the winter because conditions are more conducive to the formation of ammonium nitrate. A significant negative correlation between Nitrogen Oxidation Ratio (NOR) and temperature was observed. The obtained results can be useful for a better understanding of the aerosol dynamics in the downtown area in Jeju City.

1994~1997년 중부지방에 내린 강수의 화학적 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Chemical Characterization of Precipitation in the Central Part of Korea from 1994 to 1997)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the chemical characteristics of Precipitation at Seoul, Yangpyong, Hongchon and Inje in the central part of Korean peninsula during the period from March 1994 to November 1997. The precipitation samples were collected by automatic wet-only sampler. The samples were analyzed for major anions (SO42-, NO3-, Cl-, F-) and cations(NH4+, Ca2+, Mg+, Na+, K+), in addition to acidity and electrical conductivity. The analytical instrument for water soluble ionic components was ion chromatography. The volume - weighted mean PH were 4.73, 4.87, 4.89 and 4.81 at Seoul, Yangpyong, Hongchon and Inje, respectively. The sums of cation concentrations was slightly greater than the sums of anion concentrations. Also, the highest ion component was SO42- in anions and NH4+ in cations. The mean equivalent ratios of SO42- to NO3- were found by 2.96, 2.71, 2.43 and 2.25 at Seoul, Yangpyong, Hongchon and Inje, respectively. The factor analysis was conducted in order to make the large and diverse data set as manageable levels and to qualitatively examine the relationship between the variables. It showed that major sources of pollutants in precipitation were from the anthropogenic in Seoul, the natural in Hongchon, and the anthropogenic and natural in Yangpyong and Inje.

Bile Acid Modulation of Gastroinstinal Smooth Muscle Contraction and Ionic Currents

  • We have examined whether bile acids can affect the electrical and mechanical activities of circular smooth muscle of canine colon and ileum, using isometric tension measurement or patch clamp technique. It was found that a dilution of canine bile $(0.03{\sim}2%\;by\;volume)$ enhanced or inhibited the amplitude of spontaneous contractions. An individual component of bile, deoxycholic acid (DCA) enhanced the frequency and amplitude of the spontaneous contractile activity at $10^{-6}\;M,$ while DCA at $10^{-4}\;M$ inhibited the contraction. Similarly, the response to cholic acid was excitatory at $10^{-5}\;M$ and inhibitory at $3{\times}10^{-4}\;M.$ Taurocholic acid at $10^{-4}\;M$ enhanced the amplitude of muscle contraction. Electrically, canine bile at 1% reversibly depolarized the colonic myocytes under current clamp mode. Bile acids also elicited non-selective cation currents under voltage clamp studies, where $K^+$ currents were blocked and the $Cl^-$ gradient was adjusted so that $E_{Cl}^-$ was equal to -70 mV, a holding potential. The non-selective cation current might explain the depolarization caused by bile acids in intact muscles. Furthermore, the bile acid regulation of electrical and mechanical activities of intestinal smooth muscle may explain some of the pathophysiological conditions accompanying defects in bile reabsorption.
