Effect of Thermal Conditions on the Cluster Formation of Sulfonated Polystyrene Ionomers

  • The effect of thermal conditions on the clustering of sulfonated polystyrene ionomers was investigated. It was found that when the zinc-sulfonated ionomer was dried above a matrix glass transition temperature (Tg), the cluster Tg was observed at ca. 310 ℃, which is ca. 45 ℃ higher than that for the ionomer dried below the matrix Tg. This difference is believed to be the result of the increase in chain mobility at higher temperatures, which improves the multiplet formation and clustering; thus the cluster Tg increases. In the lithium ionomer case, however, the increase in the cluster Tg was ca. 6 ℃ upon annealing. From the results, it was suggested that in the zinc ionomer, the zinc ion is soft and divalent, which results in weaker interactions in multiplets, and thus decreases the stability of the multiplets. Therefore, the thermal effect is more significant for the zinc ionomers than for the lithium ionomers.

A Study on the Assessment of Pollution Level of Precipitation at Kangwha, 1992 (江華地域 降水의 汚染度 評價에 關한 硏究)

  • Precipitation samples were collected by a wet-only automatic acid precipitation sampler at Kangwha island on the western coast in Korea, through January until December 1992. pH, electric conductivity and the concentrations of major water-soluble ion components such as N $H_{4}$$^{+}$, $Ca^{2+}$, $K^{+}$, $Mg^{2+}$, N $a^{+}$, N $O_{3}$$^{[-10]}$ , S $O_{4}$$^{2-}$ and C $l^{[-10]}$ were measured. From the result of checking the validity for assesment of pollution level of precipitation samples by pH using correlation analysis between pH and major components, and t-test of chemical composition between acid rain and non-acid rain, pH proved to be not satisfactory for its pillution level. A more comprehensive method is therefore required. In order to estimate the monthly analytical result of chemical composition of precipitation samples comprehensively, a cluster analysis was used among the various multivariate statistical analysis. As a result of making a cluster analysis for separating the monthly precipitation samples into homogeneous patterns by setting the concentrations of nine major water-soluble ion components as a variable, three homogeneous patterns were obtained. The first pattern was a group of months having average ion concentrations, the second a guoup of months having low ion concentration, and the third a group of months having high ion concentrations. Thus, it was indicated that the pollution level of precipitation was higher on February and lower on May, June, August and September than the other months. As a result, this analysis method could be estimated the chemical coposition of precipitation regionally as well as monthly.monthly.

  • Bio Clean Room(BCR) and pharmaceutical product manufacturing facilities require careful assessment of many factors, including HVAC, controls, room finishes, process equipment, room operations, and utilities. Flow of equipment, personnel, and product must also be considered along with system flexibility, redundancy, and maintenance shutdown strategies. It is important to involve designers, operators, commissioning staff, quality control, maintenance, constructors, validation personnel, and the production representative during the conceptual stage of design. Critical variables for room environment and types of controls vary greatly with the clean space's intended purpose. It is particularly important to determine critical parameters with quality assurance to set limits and safety factors for temperature, humidity, room pressure, and other control requirements. In this paper, oxygen cluster ion equipment was utilized in order to enhance the indoor air quality and to prevent the airborne infection of ward in hospital. Moreover, the performance test of the equipment was also performed in order to develop the optimal sterilization system of BCR using the equipment.

  • 투어멀린(Tourmaline)은 비대칭 쌍극자를 가진 유극성 결정체로 광물 중에서 영구적으로 전기분극 특성을 띄고 있는 유일한 물질로써, 일명 "전기석"이라고 알려져 있다. 자체의 미약 전류(약 0,06mA)와 함께 음이온 및 원적외선의 발생으로 최근 우리 주변에서 건강과 환경정화를 위한 관심 대상의 투어멀린은 육방정계의 압전성 띤 초전성을 띄는 붕규산염으로, 물분자를 만나면 수소(H+)와 수산기(OH-)로 분해하여 친수기와 소수기를 구분하여 발생하며, H+와 OH-는 다시 각각 H2O와 결합하여 활성이 강한 hydronium ion(H3O+)과 계면활성 작용이 있는 hydroxyl ion(H3O2-)을 생성한다. 물속에서 불안정한 상태로 존재하는 수산기는 hydroxyl (-)ion을 형성하여 약 알카리성$(pH{\sim}7.4)$을 띄고, 물의 클러스터 (cluster)를 세분화하는 수질개선 기능과 함께 살균, 항균 및 세균번식억제 효과를 갖는 것으로 확인되었다. 따라서 투어멀린 소결체를 활용하여 그 처리수의 특성조사 및 기능개발과 함께 대장균의 번식억제 작용 및 살균작용과 수질개선 기능 등 유용한 결과의 분석으로부터 다양한 응용성을 확보하였다.

  • 천연광물질인 투어멀린은 물분자를 만나면 수소(H$^{+}$)와 수산기(OH$^{-}$)로 분해하여 친수기와 소수기를 구분하여 발생하며, H$^{+}$와 OH$^{-}$는 각각 $H_2O$와 결합하여 활성이 강한 hydronium ion(H$_3$O$^{+}$)과 계면활성 작용이 있는 hydroxyl ion(H$_3$O$_{2-}$ )을 생성한다. 물속에서 불안정한 상태로 존재하는 수산기는 hydroxyl (-)ion을 형성하여 약 알카리성(pH-7.4)을 띄고, 물의 클러스터(cluster)를 세분화하는 수질 개선 기능과 함께 살균, 항균 및 세균번식억제 효과를 갖는다. 그러므로 투어멀린 전기석의 물 분해 효과를 이용하여 이것을 일정 시간 동안 증류수에 침적시킨 뒤, 그 침적수를 대장균이 배양된 액에 드롭시켜 대장균의 변화를 조사하였다. 그 결과, 시간이 경과됨에 따라 대장균 수의 변화가 나타남을 확인하였고, 따라서 투어멀린 침적수의 대장균 증식억제 효과를 확인하였다.

  • Photodissociation of nitrous oxide near 203 nm has been studied by a combination of high resolution slice ion imaging technique and (2+1) resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization (REMPI) spectroscopy of $N_2(X^1{{\Sigma}_g}^+)$ via the (a″$^1{{\Sigma}_g}^+$) state. We have measured the recoil velocity and angular distributions of $N_2$ fragments by ion images of the state-resolved photofragments. The $N_2$ fragments were highly rotationally excited and the NN-O bond dissociation energy was determined to be 3.635 eV. Also, we investigated the photofragment images from the photodissociation of $N_2O$ clusters with various stagnation pressures.

  • keV ion beam irradiatin for surface modification and thin film growth have been discussed. keV ion beam irradiation in reactive gas environment has been developed for improving wettability of polymer, and for enhancing adhesion to metal film, and adventages of the method have been reviewed. An epitaxial Cu film on Si(100) substrate has been grown by ionized cluster beam and changes of crystallinity and surface roughness have been discussed. Stoichiometric $SnO_2$ films on Si(100) and glass have been grown by a hybrid ion beam Deposition(2 metal ion sources+1 gas ion source), and nonstoichiometric $SnO_2$ films are controlled by various deposition conditions in the HIB. Surface modification for polymer by kev ion irradiation have been developed. Wetting angle of water to PC has been changed from 68 degree to 49 degree with $Ar^+$ irradiation and to 8 degree with $Ar^+$ irradiation and the oxygen environment. Change of surface phenomena in a keV ion beam and characteristics of the grown films are suggested.

Mass Spectrometric Analysis of Eight Common Chemical Explosives Using Ion Trap Mass Spectrometer

  • Eight representative explosives (ammonium perchlorate (AP), ammonium nitrate (AN), trinitrotoluene (TNT), 2,4-dinitrotoluene (DNT), cyclonite (RDX), cyclotetramethylenetetranitramine (HMX), pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), and hexanitrostilbene (HNS)) were comprehensively analyzed with an ion trap mass spectrometer in negative ion mode using direct infusion electrospray ionization. MS/MS experiments were performed to generate fragment ions from the major parent ion of each explosive. Explosives in salt forms such as AP or AN provided cluster parent ions with their own anions. Explosives with an aromatic ring were observed as either $[M-H]^-$ for TNT and DNT or $[M]^{{\cdot}-}$ for HNS, while explosives without an aromatic ring such as RDX, HMX, and PETN were detected as an adduct ion with a formate anion, i.e., $[M+HCOO]^-$. These findings provide a guideline for the rapid and accurate detection of explosives once portable MS instruments become more readily available.

  • 나노바이오연구분야에서 ToF-SIMS를 이용하여 lipid와 metabolite같은 저 분자의 생체물질을 측정하는데 널리 이용되어 왔다. 최근에는 고 분자량의 생체물질을 측정하기 위해서 C60, water cluster, argon cluster등의 다양한 종류의 클러스터 이온빔들이 개발되어 왔다. [1,2] 하지만 tissue샘플을 클러스터 이온빔을 이용하여 분석한 결과에서도 m/z 1500이상의 고분자를 측정한 결과는 거의 없다. 바이오샘플의 charging을 상쇄하기위해 low energy electron beam (~20 eV)을 사용하는데, low energy electron beam이 샘플에 damage를 주기 때문이다. [3] 본 연구에서는 electron fluence (electrons/cm2)가 증가함에 따라 PC(16:0/18:1(9Z)와 Ganglioside GM1의 intensity가 감소함을 알았고, low energy electron beam에 의해 생체 물질이 damage를 받을 수 있음을 확인하였다. 따라서 tissue 샘플을 SUS기판에 샘플링하고 Ar-GCIB를 이용하면 charging없이 tissue imaging을 성공적으로 수행할 수 있고, m/z 2000이상의 고 분자량의 생체물질을 측정할 수 있음을 확인하였다.
