Some new podands containing phenyl(B), benzyl(Bz), pyridine(Py), quinoline(Q) and naphthalene(Np) as end-groups, and oxygen(O) and sulfur(S) in ether chains as donor atoms have been synthesized. The univalent cation binding characteristics of these podands have been studied by NMR titration and solvent extraction. By NMR titration we have found that the most of podands form 1:1 complexes with $Ag^+$ ion. Especially, the substituted sulfur atoms in ether chains show the effects to enhance the stabilities. We also carried out the extractions of univalent cation picrates including alkaline metal, $Ag^+$, $Tl^+$ and $NH_4{^-}$ ions from aqueous to chloroform layer by using these podands. We found that the extractabilities of $Ag^+$ ion with the quinoline-containing podands such as, $Q_2O_4$, $Q_2O_5$ and $BQO_5$ were 86.8, 86.6 and 48.0% respectively, but the naphthalene-containing podands such as, $Np_2O_4$ and $Np_2O_5$ extracted quite small amount. Otherwise, in cases of $Bz_2O_3S_2$(89.4%), $B_2O_2S_2$(96.8%), $B_2O_3S_2$(58.9%), $Py_2O_2S_2$(58.8%), $Py_2O_3S_2$(42.1%), and $B_2O_4S$(15.0%), interestingly, $Bz_2O_3S_2$ which have sulfur atoms and benzyl groups showed the highest extraction selectivity for $Ag^+$ ion. This result seems due to not only the strong interaction of $Ag^+$ ion with sulfur donors according to the HSAB theory, but also the effective ${\pi}-{\pi}$ stacking interaction between two aromatic end-groups which is enhanced by the flexible methylene spacing group in benzyl groups instead of phenyl groups. The extraction coefficients gave the similar tendency as the extractabilities and the stabilities. From these results, it could be concluded that the predominant factor affected to extraction coefficients is the stabilities, which are strongly influenced by the structures of podands.
A effect of extraction methods, including stirrer extraction method (SE), ultrasonification extraction method (USE), reflux extraction method (RE), autoclave extraction (AE) and low temperature high pressure extraction (LE) method on the antioxidative and antimicrobial activities of ethanol extracts of Oenothera biennis was investigated. The extraction yield (46.33%), total polyphenol (463.05 mg GAE/g) and flavonoid (71.71 mg RHE/g) content of Oenothera biennis extract obtained by RE were higher than those from other extraction methods. The antimicrobial activity of Oenothera biennis extract was only observed against Bacillus cereus among other tested organisms (Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Salmonella Typhimurium). Oenothera biennis obtained by RE showed the best DPPH radical scavenging ability (74.40%), ABTS radical scavenging ability (65.29%), reducing power (1.370 ($OD_{700}$)) and ferrous ion chelating ability (90.14%) compared with other tested extraction methods tested. The RE method was the most efficient method for extracting crude antioxidant and antimicrobial substances from Oenothera biennis. These results suggested that Oenothera biennis obtained by RE could be used as a bioactive and functional material in the food industry.
The inner-diameter 5 cm cold hollow cathode ion source was designed for the high current density and the homogeneous beam profile of ion beam. The ion source consisted of a cylindrical cathode, a generation part of magnetic field, a plasma chamber, convex type ion optic system with two grid electrode, and DC power supply system. The cold hollow cathode ion sources were classified into standard type (I), electron output electrode modified type (II). The operation of the ion source was done with discharge current, ion beam potential and argon gas flow rate. The modification of electron output electrode resulted in uniform plasma generation and uniform area of ion beam was extended from 5 cm to 20 cm. Improved ion source was evaluated with beam uniformity, ion current, team extraction efficiency, and ionization efficiency.
Solvent extraction behavior of Sn(IV) from hydrochloric acid solution was investigated using TBP(Tri-butyl Phosphate) as an extractant. The experimental parameters, such as the concentration of HCl solution, chloride ions, extractant, and Sn were observed. Experimental results showed that the extraction percent of Sn was increased with increasing the hydrochloric acid and chloride ion concentration. More than 98% of Sn was extracted in 7.0 M HCl by 10% TBP. The optimum extraction stages of Sn for continuous extraction process was theoretically calculated by analysizing the McCabe-Thiele diagram. Stripping of Sn from the loaded organic phases can be accomplished by NaOH as a stripping reagent effectively and 99.3% of Sn was stripped by 2.0M NaOH solution.
The several fundamental parameters on the solvent extraction of Co(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) with dithizone were investigated. The value of $K_{a1}/K_p$ of dithizone(at $25^{\circ}C$) between an aqueous phase and a chloroform was found to be $4.72{\times}10^{-11}$. And the mole ratios of metal ion to dithizone in its metal complexes were determined by mole ratio method. The extractibilities(%) for metal-dithizone chelates were obtained from the extraction equilibria of metal-dithizone complexes between an aqueous phase and a chloroform as follows. Co(II) : 92.3% at pH 8.0 : Cu(II) : 97.1% at pH 4.0 and Zn(II) : 99.0% at pH 7.0. And also, in optimum experimental conditions the extraction constants of Co(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) were examined.
Conventional decontamination methods utilize water-based systems, which generate high amounts of secondary wastes. Herein, we describe an environmentally benign decontamination method using liquid and supercritical $CO_2$. The use of $CO_2$ as a solvent affords effective waste reduction by its ability to be recycled, thereby leaving be hind only the contaminants upon its evaporation. In this study, a $CO_2$ solution process was assessed using t-salen(t-butylsalen), DC18C6 (dicyclohexano-18Crown6), 8-HQN(8-hydroxyquinoline), NEt4PFOSA(perfluoro-1-octanesulfonic acid tetra-ethyl ammonium salt), and NEt4PFOA(pentadecafluorooctanoic acid ammonium salt) to extract spiked radioactive contaminants(Nb,Zr,Co,Sr) from an inert sample matrix, namely filter paper. With the static extraction method, Sr was extracted with a maximum extraction rate of 97%, and Nb was extracted with a maximum extraction rate of 75%. Additionally, we were also able to extract Co and Zr with maximum extract ion ratesof 73% and 64%, respectively.
Supercritical $CO_2$($scCO_2$) extraction has a great possibility to be a new process to recover metal and to replace the existing leaching/solvent extraction processes. The cobalt extraction was carried out using $scCO_2$ from cobalt sulphate solution. The bis (2,4,4-trimethylpentyl) phosphinic acid and diethylamine ligands were used to extract cobalt ion in $scCO_2$. The recommended method consists of $scCO_2$/extractants complexation process and metal extraction process at 60, 200bar. Experimental results showed that the extraction efficiency of Co was increased by 16-99% with increasing the ligand amount.
There are several steps such as slicing, lapping, chemical etching and mechanical polishing in the silicon wafer production process. The chemical etching step is necessary to remove damaged layer caused In the slicing and lapping steps. The typical etching liquor is the acid mixture comprising nitric acid, acetic acid and hydrofluoric acid. At present, the waste acid is treated by a neutralization method with a high alkali cost and balky solid residue. A solvent extraction method is applicable to separate and recover each acid. Acetic acid is first separated from the waste liquor using 2-ethlyhexyl alcohols as an extractant. Then, nitric acid is recovered using TBP(Tri-butyl phosphate) as an extractant. Finally hydrofluoric acid is separated with the TBP solvent extraction. The expected recovered acids in this process are 2㏖/l acetic acid, 6㏖/1 nitric acid and 6㏖/l hydrofluoric acid. The yields of this process are almost 100% for acetic acid and nitric acid. On the other hand, it is important to recover and reuse the metal values contained in various industrial wastes in a viewpoint of environmental preservation. Most of industrial products are made through the processes to separate impurities in raw materials, solid and liquid wastes being necessarily discharged as industrial wastes. Chemical methods such as solvent extraction, ion exchange and membrane, and physical methods such as heavy media separation, magnetic separation and electrostatic separation are considered as the methods for separation and recovery of the metal values from the wastes. Some examples of the application of solvent extraction to the treatment of wastes such as Ni-Co alloy scrap, Sm-Co alloy scrap, fly ash and flue dust, and liquid wastes such as plating solution, the rinse solution, etching solution and pickling solution are introduced.

Since the organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) have been widely investigated as next-generation displays, it has been successfully commercialized as a flexible and rollable display. However, there is still wide room and demand to improve the device characteristics such as power efficiency and lifetime. To solve this issue, there has been a wide research effort, and among them, the internal and the external light extraction techniques have been attracted in this research field by its fascinating characteristic of material independence. In this study, a micro-nano composite structured external light extraction layer was demonstrated. A reactive ion etching (RIE) process was performed on the surfaces of hexagonally packed hemisphere micro-lens array (MLA) and randomly distributed sphere diffusing films to form micro-nano composite structures. Random nanostructures of different sizes were fabricated by controlling the processing time of the O2 / CHF3 plasma. The fabricated device using a micro-nano composite external light extraction layer showed 1.38X improved external quantum efficiency compared to the reference device. The results prove that the external light extraction efficiency is improved by applying the micro-nano composite structure on conventional MLA fabricated through a simple process.

Mn-Zn ferrite thin films were deposited on $SiO_2(1000 \AA)/Si(100)$ by ion beam sputtering using a single ion source. A mosaic target consisting of a single crystal(ll0) Mn-Zn ferrite with a Fe metal strip on it was used. As-deposited films without oxygen gas flow have a wiistite structure due to oxygen deficiencies, which originated from the extra metal atoms sputtered from the metal strips during deposition. The as-deposited films with oxygen gas flow, however, have a spinel structure with (111) preferred orientation. The crystallization of thin films was maximized at the ion beam extraction voltage of 2.lkV, at which the deposited films are bombarded appropriately by the energetic secondary ions reflected from the target. As the extraction voltage increased or decreased from the optimum value, the crystallinity of thin films becomes poor owing to a weak and severe bombardment of the secondary ions, respectively. Crystallization due to the bombardment of the secondary ions was also maximized at the beam incidence angle of $55^{\circ}$. The as-deposited ferrite thin films with a spinel structure showed ferrimagnetism and had an in-plane magnetization easy axis.
