With the emergence of the Internet-of-Things (IoT) paradigm, there is a growing demand for personalized services using IoT contexts acquired from heterogeneous IoT devices. However, due to the mismatch between IoT context exchange schemes of context-aware services and IoT devices, IoT applications can acquire IoT contexts only from IoT devices that support the same IoT context exchange schemes. In this paper, we propose dynamic methods to mediate those mismatches on the IoT context exchange schemes. With the proposed mediation methods, context-aware services can collect IoT contexts from heterogeneous IoT devices without considering their IoT context exchange schemes.
With the emergence of Internet-of-Things (IoT) computing, it has become possible to acquire users' health-related contexts from various IoT devices and to diagnose their biological aging through analysis of the IoT health contexts. However, previous work on methods of aging diagnosis used a fixed list of aging diagnosis factors, making it difficult to handle the variability of users' IoT health contexts and to dynamically adapt the addition and deletion of aging diagnosis factors. This paper proposes a design and methods for a dynamically adaptable aging diagnosis framework that acquires a set of IoT health contexts from various IoT devices based on a set of aging diagnosis factors of the user. By using the proposed aging diagnosis framework, aging diagnosis methods can be applied without considering the variability of IoT health contexts and aging diagnosis factors can be dynamically added and deleted.

The collection and manipulation of Internet of Things (IoT) data is increasing at a fast pace and its importance is recognized in every sector of our society. For efficient utilization of IoT data, the vast and varied IoT data needs to be reliable and meaningful. In this paper, we propose an IoT framework to realize this need. The IoT framework is based on a four layer IoT architecture onto which context aware computing technology is applied. If the collected IoT data is unreliable it cannot be used for its intended purpose and the whole service using the data must be abandoned. In this paper, we include techniques to remove uncertainty in the early stage of IoT data capture and collection resulting in reliable data. Since the data coming out of the various IoT devices have different formats, it is important to convert them into a standard format before further processing, We propose the RDF format to be the standard format for all IoT data. In addition, it is not feasible to process all captured Iot data from the sensor devices. In order to decide which data to process and understand, we propose to use contexts and reasoning based on these contexts. For reasoning, we propose to use standard AI and statistical techniques. We also propose an experiment environment that can be used to develop an IoT application to realize the IoT framework.
The Internet of Things(IoT) paradigm is flourishing strenuously for the last two decades. Researchers around the globe have their dreams to transmute every real-world object to the virtual object. Consequently, IoT devices are escalating exponentially. The abrupt evolution of these IoT devices has caused a major challenge i.e. object classification. In order to classify devices comprehensively and accurately, this paper proposes a context-aware based multi-classification model for devices, which classifies the smart devices according to people's contexts. However, the classification features of contextual data of different contexts are difficult to extract. The deep learning algorithm has the capability to solve this problem. This paper proposes a context-aware based multi-classification model of devices, which classifies the smart devices according to people's contexts.
Internet of Thing (IoT) computing is an environment where various devices with sensors and actuators are connect, and interact together to acquire contexts and provide useful services. With the advances of IoT technologies, its usability becomes an in important issue. However, there exist various types of faults in IoT computing which are not conventionally addressed in software research community. Providing reliable IoT services is challenging. In this paper, we present a hierarchy of IoT faults and analyze causes and symptoms of the faults. Based on the analysis, we define effective methods for managing IoT faults. We believe that our proposed framework for managing IoT faults can be utilized in reducing the development cost of IoT applications and enhancing the quality of the applications.

Various personalized services are provided based on user context these days, and IoT(Internet of Things) devices provides effective ways to collect user context. For example, user's activity such as walking steps, calories, and sleeping hours can be collected using smart activity tracker. Smart scale can sense change of user's weight or body fat percentage. However, these services are independent to each other and not easy to make them collaborate. Many standard bodies are working on the documents for this issue, but due to diversity of IoT use case scenarios, it seems that multiple IoT technologies co-exist for the time being. This paper propose a framework to collaborate heterogeneous IoT services. The proposed framework provides methods to build application for heterogeneous IoT devices and user context management in more intuitive way using HTTP. To improve compatibility and usability, gathered user contexts are based on MPEG-UD. Implementation of framework and service with real-world devices are also presented.
This editorial on 'Smart Services and Internet of Things (IoT)' focuses on the topics related to the applications of IoT to consumer products and services, which have become 'smarter' thanks to IoT. This special issue explores, in different ways, the phenomena of smart services and the role of IoT in business innovation across different contexts such as product-service system, car auction, tourism industry, communicating platform, online travel agency, self-service retail, and bike sharing. We hope that this special issue will provide a significant step forward in enabling researchers and practitioners to understand smart services and IoT.

Sensors equipped in Internet-of-Thing (IoT) devices are used to measure the surrounding contexts, and IoT applications analyze the contexts to infer situations and provide situation-specific smart services. There are different context acquisition schemes including pulling, pushing, and broadcasting. Most IoT devices support only one of the schemes. Hence, there can be an incompatible issue on data acquisition schemes between applications and devices, and consequently it could result in an increased development cost and inefficiency on application maintenance. This paper presents design patterns which can effectively remedy the incompatibility problem. By applying the patterns, IoT applications with incompatibility can be systematically and effectively developed. And, also its maintainability is expected to increase.

This paper suggests smart gateway structure and functionalities that provide device web service which can be used by user using objectified devices. The smart gateway objectify a physical device in other to provide the device web service in IoT intelligent service. And the paper suggests a mechanism that provide orchestrated service of various devices to user using a concept of service overlay network. and also suggests a interface that provide device web services and the orchestrated service between the smart gateway and a web service platform. In the paper, the objectified devices can be combined with web service objects and device contexts based on the service overlay network, furthermore the objectified devices can provide intelligence and dynamic service in the IoT environment.
The emergence of diverse medical Internet of Things (IoT) devices has facilitated the collection and analysis of medical contexts to assess health conditions. However, the complexity of IoT-based systems for health assessment is quiet high and it requires high development cost, since the designs of the systems highly depend on the heath aspects to be evaluated. In this paper, we propose a design of the platform that provides generic functionalities to various health evaluation applications. We first define a metric for computing a health index, which is a generic health assessment model. And, based on the proposed generic health index, we propose a design of the platform to evaluate diverse aspects of the health including its hardware architecture, software architecture and database design. We describe the result of developing Rainbow Toilet System based on the proposed platform, and assess the practical applicability.
