Performance Evaluation of Elderly Home Automation Control (EHAC) IoT System

  • As the number of elderly increased rapidly every year, many elderly still choose to stay independent despite of difficulties and challenges faced in their daily routine. Elderly has desperate needs for support for their living. Internet of Things helps to support and improve elderly's life in many ways to meet the needs and requirements. Home Automation Control (EHAC) is a research based system that support elderly with controlled automation solution that control and operates various home electrical appliances based on the measurement of heart pulse rate and environment temperature. This paper works on EHAC system to evaluate the performance of the system in elderly's daily routine. This paper presented experiments conducted with approach of IoT testing and discussion on analysis of the results.

Actual Cases of Internet of Thing on Smart City Industry (스마트시티 산업에서의 사물인터넷 적용 사례 연구)

  • Smart city is an urban development vision to integrate multiple information and communication technology(ICT) and Internet of Things(IoT). The goal of building a smart city is to improve the quality of life by using urban informatics and technology to improve the efficiency of services and meet residents' needs. Many devices in today have been used on various industrial regions. These devices use Internet to transfer their informations. We call these situations as the IoT(Internet of Things). We studied various application examples of IoT in smart city industrial region. In this paper, we described two actual cases such as smart park system and smart bin.

A Study on Context-aware Beacon Services Connecting Smart TV (Smart TV 상황 인지형 Beacon서비스 연구)

  • The Service had a purpose to be heard through the Smart Phone APP and Smart TV Broadcasting Contents to Foreigner's Language in The Asia Culture Center. This Paper explained how to realize foreigner with Beacon's Signal and IoT gateway provided the voice service with selected his language using AllJoyn Protocol Interface function. IoT Service Platform received the Registration of foreigner's identifier, there sent messages to all devices, which were all IoT gateways, IoT gateway could connect to foreigner's Smart Phone App and heard the Broadcasting contents. If a foreigner went out of Beacon's management distance, the voice App service were released.

  • Internet-of-Things(IoT) is the computing paradigm converged with different technologies, where diverse devices are connected via the wireless network, acquire environmental information from their equipped sensors, and are actuated. IoT applications provide smart services to users by interacting with multiple devices connected to the network. IoT devices provide the simple set of the information and also offer smart services by collaborating with other devices. That is, IoT applications always interact with IoT devices which are becoming very popular at a fast pace. However, due to this fact, developing IoT application results in unconventional technical challenges which have not been observed in typical software applications. Moreover, since IoT computing has its own characteristics which are distinguished from other former paradigms such as embedded computing and mobile computing, IoT applications also reveal their own technical challenges. Therefore, we analyze technical challenges occurring in developing IoT applications and present effective solutions to overcome the challenges. To verify identified issues and presented solutions, we present the result of performing a case study of developing an IoT application. Through the case study, we verify how the unconventional technical issues are raised in a real domain and analyze effectiveness of applying the solutions to the application.

  • IoT(Internet of Things) has become a major issue as new type of convergence technology, expending existing of USNs(Ubiquitous Sensor Networks), NFC(Near Field Communication), and M2M(Machine to Machine). The IoT technology defines as a networking for things, which can establish intelligent links collaboratively for sensing networking and processing between each other without human intervention. The purpose of this study is to investigate to forecast the future distribution changes and orientation of contribution of distribution industry on IoT and to provide the implication of distribution changes. To become a global market leader, IoT requires much more development of core technology of IoT for distribution industry, new service creation and try to use a market-based demand side strategy to create markets. So, to become a global leader in distribution industry, this study results show that first of all establishment of standardization of IoT, privacy safeguards, security issues, stability and value were more important than others. The research findings suggest that the development goals of IoT should strive to boost the creation of a global leader in distribution industry and convenience to consider consumers' demands as the most important thing.

  • As the network environment develops and speeds up, a lot of smart devices is developed, and a high-speed smart society can be realized while allowing people to interact with objects. As the number of things Internet has surged, a wide range of new security risks and problems have emerged for devices, platforms and operating systems, communications, and connected systems. Due to the physical characteristics of IoT devices, they are smaller in size than conventional systems, and operate with low power, low cost, and relatively low specifications. Therefore, it is difficult to apply the existing security solution used in the existing system. In addition, IoT devices are connected to the network at all times, it is important to ensure that personal privacy exposure, such as eavesdropping, data tampering, privacy breach, information leakage, unauthorized access, Significant security issues can arise, including confidentiality and threats to facilities. In this paper, we investigate cases of security threats and cases of network of IoT, analyze vulnerabilities, and suggest ways to minimize property damage by Internet of things.

Smart Fusion Agriculture based on Internet of Thing (사물 인터넷 기반의 농업 융·복합 연구)

  • The IoT has attracted attention as one of the technologies that are applied to various industries and create new services. The IoT can utilize existing network technologies to create services by providing Internet connection between objects. Objects Personalized services can be created by collecting various data using the IoT. In the field of agriculture, we are promoting sustainable agriculture and enhancing competitiveness through the use of the IoT, and the convergence of IoT in agriculture is pushing for smart agriculture. In Korea, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs is preparing measures to spread smart farms to improve agricultural competitiveness using IoT technology. Therefore, we propose the development model of smart agriculture in the future through the case study on the IoT based on agriculture.

Efficient Authentication Establishment Scheme between IoT Device based on Pascal Triangle Theory (파스칼 삼각 이론 기반의 IoT 장치간 효율적인 인증 설립 기법)

  • Recently, users' interest in IoT related products is increasing as the 4th industrial revolution has become social. The types and functions of sensors used in IoT devices are becoming increasingly diverse, and mutual authentication technology of IoT devices is required. In this paper, we propose an efficient double signature authentication scheme using Pascal's triangle theory so that different types of IoT devices can operate smoothly with each other. The proposed scheme divides the authentication path between IoT devices into two (main path and auxiliary path) to guarantee authentication and integrity of the IoT device. In addition, the proposed scheme is suitable for IoT devices that require a small capacity because they generate keys so that additional encryption algorithms are unnecessary when authenticating IoT devices. As a result of the performance evaluation, the delay time of the IoT device is improved by 6.9% and the overhead is 11.1% lower than that of the existing technique. The throughput of IoT devices was improved by an average of 12.5% over the existing techniques.

  • IoT(Internet of Thing) 환경이 도래하면서 다양한 무선 통신 기술들이 사용되고 있다. 그 중에서 가장 많이 쓰이는 무선 통신 기술은 Z-WAVE이다. Z-WAVE는 저전력, 양방향 RF 등의 장점을 가지며, 세계 스마트 홈 시장에서 가장 폭 넓게 사용되는 기술이다. 이 기술을 채택한 연합을 Z-WAVE 연합이라고 하는데, 이 연합은 수백 개 이상의 제조사들과 1000개 이상의 활성화된 제품을 가지고 있다. 하지만 Z-WAVE는 중간자 공격 등과 같은 보안성의 취약점을 가지고 있으며 아직까지 연구가 부족한 실정이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 IoT 환경에서 Z-WAVE 기반의 향상된 키 교환 프로토콜 기법을 제안한다.

'CES 2017'참관을 통한 IoT(Internet of Thing) 적용 제품 및 인터페이스 동향

  • IoT 연구과제와 관련하여 향후 비즈니스에서 가장 중요한 근거가 되는 IoT 플랫폼을 스마트홈, 자동차 등에서 기업과 제품개발 동향을 살펴 보았다. IoT 플랫폼은 크게 가정을 중심으로 하는 스마트 홈, 이동 공간을 넘어 새로운 생활 공간으로 확장이 가능한 자동차 공간, 제품의 제조, 배송 등이 모두 이루어지는 스마트 팩토리 등으로 나누어질 수 있다. 이중 스마트 홈과 관련해서는 가정 내의 가전기기의 융합과 통합의 중심이 되는 역할을 어떤 기기, 어떤 방식의 인터페이스가 주도권을 잡아 갈지는 관련 기업들에게는 사활을 건 승부처가 된다. 그런 면에서 금번 전시회에서 아마존의 알렉사는 매우 중요한 음성인식 기반의 인터페이스로 부각되었다. 특히 향후 가정의 중심 기기가 무엇이든지 그 기기를 통합하는 인터페이스로 다양한 제휴 제품을 아마존이 아닌 다른 업체들로 하여금 소개할 수 있게 함으로써 향후 매우 중요한 위치를 잡았다고 볼 수 있다. 자율주행차는 아직까지 플랫폼으로 연결할 만큼 주도적인 사물인터넷 인터페이스는 선보이지 않았지만, 역시 알렉사 등이 포드, 현대, 도요다 등을 통해 채택된 것을 볼 수 있었고, 그 밖에 헬쓰케어와 연계한 차별화를 통해 꽤하는 것들도 볼 수 있었다. 다만 자율주행차가 새로운 생활 공간으로 자리잡기까지는 자율주행차의 상용화가 이루어질2020년 이후까지는 기다려야 할 것으로 보인다.
