  • The intertidal zone has both land and marine characteristics and shows complex weather environments. These characteristics are suited for studying climate change, energy balance and ecosystems, and may play an important role in coastal and marine weather prediction and analysis. This study was conducted at Odo Island, approximately 300m from the mainland in Yeosu. We built a weather observation system capable of real-time monitoring on the mud flat in the intertidal zone and measured actual weather and marine data. Weather observation was conducted from April to June 2022. The results showed changes in air temperature and water temperature with changes in the tide level during spring. Correlation analysis revealed characteristic changes in air temperature and water temperature during the day and night, and with inundation and exposure.

  • The present study is aimed to correcting radar-based mean areal precipitation forecasts to improve urban flood predictions and uncertainty analysis of water levels contributed at each stage in the process. For this reason, a long short-term memory (LSTM) network is used to reproduce three-hour mean areal precipitation (MAP) forecasts from the quantitative precipitation forecasts (QPFs) of the McGill Algorithm for Precipitation nowcasting by Lagrangian Extrapolation (MAPLE). The Gangnam urban catchment located in Seoul, South Korea, was selected as a case study for the purpose. A database was established based on 24 heavy rainfall events, 22 grid points from the MAPLE system and the observed MAP values estimated from five ground rain gauges of KMA Automatic Weather System. The corrected MAP forecasts were input into the developed coupled 1D/2D model to predict water levels and relevant inundation areas. The results indicate the viability of the proposed framework for generating three-hour MAP forecasts and urban flooding predictions. For the analysis uncertainty contributions of the source related to the process, the Bayesian Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) using delayed rejection and adaptive metropolis algorithm is applied. For this purpose, the uncertainty contributions of the stages such as QPE input, QPF MAP source LSTM-corrected source, and MAP input and the coupled model is discussed.

  • In order to analyze the impacts of climate change, a time and space integrated model was developed in this study using system dynamics and GIS. The model built was used to carry out a simulation on the inundation impact on A-gu of Busan Metropolitan city resulting from the sea level rise scenario of IPCC and storm surge, which is the worst case. Through this, the flooded area and population until 2100 were predicted. Also, the result and significance of each alternative was reviewed improving the model by establishing alternative scenarios of protection, accommodation and retreat as plans of reaction to sea level rise. The combination of system dynamics and GIS has advantages of how the diverse variables change until the target year can be traced and, accordingly, not only the results but also the processes of spatial change can be examined by calculating the value of change process at each time step. The synergy of this model presumed to be a foothold for solving problems which are becoming difficult to predict due to increase in uncertainty and complexity such as the support for decision making for urban resilience to natural disasters.

  • Recently, due to localized heavy rain and flash floods in urban areas is becoming more frequent flood damage. To prevent flood inundation damage, to formulate the diverse directions in connection with the drainage system of buildings, roads, sewerage, pump stations, detention (retention) pond, and streams is very important. In addition, it is important for the uniform design criteria, the consistent of hydrologic and hydraulic analysis method, and a flood disaster mitigation systems connected with structural and nonstructural measures. To accomplish this, the method such as installation of storage facilities, infiltration facilities, and underground water tank, the optimal size of the design gutter and grate of the road, ensure the capacity of pumping stations, and the installation of a flood control channel into the deep underground requires comprehensive measures dimension in urban areas.

  • The objective of this study was to improve the cross-sectional area and height estimation method using stream width. Stream water levels should be calculated together to simulate inundation of agricultural land. However, cross-sectional survey data of small rural rivers are insufficient. The previous study has developed regression equations between the width and the cross-sectional area and between the width and the height of stream cross-section, but can not be applied to a wide range of stream widths. In this study, cross-sectional survey data of 6 streams (Doowol, Chungmi, Jiseok, Gam, Wonpyeong, and Bokha stream) were collected and divided into upstream, midstream and downstream considering the locations of cross-sections. The regression equations were estimated using the complete data. $R^2$ between the stream width and cross-sectional area was 0.96, and $R^2$ between width and height was 0.81. The regression equations were also estimated using divided data for upstream, midstream and downstream considering the locations of cross-sections. The range of $R^2$ between the stream width and cross-sectional area was 0.86 - 0.91, and the range of $R^2$ between width and height was 0.79 ? 0.92. As a result of estimating the cross-sections of 6 rivers using the regression equations, the regression equations considering the locations of cross-sections showed better performance both in the cross-sectional area and height estimation than the regression equations estimated using the complete data. Hydrologic Engineering Center - River Analysis System (HEC-RAS) was used to simulate the flood stage analysis of the estimated and the measured cross-sections for 50-year, 100-year, and 200-year frequency floods. As a result of flood stage analysis, the regression equations considering the locations of cross-sections also showed better performance than the regression equations estimated using the complete data. Future research would be needed to consider the factors affecting the cross-sectional shape such as river slope and average flow velocity. This study can be useful for inundation simulation of agricultural land adjacent to an unmeasured stream.

  • The prevention of disasters is important to prepare in advance through analysis and an estimate. But for all the efforts of the government to stave off disasters, the damage out of a guerilla localized heavy rain caused the global warming, a landslide and inundation is growing. To prevent these damages, the basic data and system through systematic research and analysis should be set up. But it is true that collecting of the basic data and the system for preventing disasters are either constructing or insufficient so far. In this research, by using topography spatial data including LiDAR data including the aerial photo and digital maps, and etc. the factor of a disaster, the disaster risk element was extracted. Moreover, the disaster region about the disaster generation available region was evaluated in advance using the easy disaster analysis of current situation photo map which made with the grid analysis method and weighted value estimate technique.

  • The coast has been known as very vulnerable area. This area has nature disasters such as typhoon, tidal wave, flood and storm almost every year. In this study, coast vulnerable area information management system was developed to manage the coastal facilities and vulnerable area through Web GIS. This system is able to visualize the damage area and support the official work related to coast as efficient DSS(Decision Supporting System). Moreover, the foundation for domestic coast information management is expected by acquiring less cost and time. For this, GIS DB was first constructed by acquiring damage factor data such as typhoon, tidal wave, flood and storm. Then GIS analysis methods and high resolution satellite images are used to possibly present the results of retrieve as table, map, graph, inundation simulation in real time.

  • There are casualties due to inundation and flooding due to intensive typhoons or heavy rains in summer. Due to such damage, the biggest disaster is flood, and in order to reduce human damage, this paper proposes a shortest distance algorithm-based pedestrian path search study using Map API. This system selects Map API through comparative analysis and provides the shortest route. The route explored is in JSON format and the data of the shelter is stored in the database. The route search system designed and implemented based on this data locates pedestrians and provides evacuation routes in case of flash floods. In addition, if the route cannot be entered while moving to the evacuation route, the current location of the pedestrian is identified, the route is re-searched, and a new route is provided. Therefore, it is believed that the pedestrian route search system proposed in this paper will prevent negligent accidents.

  • Most developed models are designed to determine pipe diameter, slope and overall layout in order to minimize the cost for the design rainfall for the optimal sewer layout. However, these models are not capable of considering the superposition effect of runoff hydrographs in the sewer pipes. The flow characteristics in the sewer pipes, such as the sewer layout, pipe diameter and slope, vary according to the design of the sewer system. In particular, when the sewer network is modified, the shapes of the runoff hydrographs in the sewer pipes also change because of the superposition effect. In this study, the sewer layout is designed to control and distribute the flows in the sewer pipes, while considering the runoff superposition effect, in order to reduce the inundation risk at each junction. This is accomplished by separating the inflows that enter into each junction by changing the way in which pipes are connected between junctions. And this model combines SWMM (Storm Water Management Model) to perform the hydraulic analysis for the flows in the sewer network. The current sewer layout was modified to minimize the peak outflow at outlet in Garak basin, Seoul, South Korea. As the results, the peak outflows at the outlet were decreased by approximately 20% for the design rainfall during 30 minutes and the total overflows were also decreased for the excessive rainfalls.
