The distribution and seasonal changes of the intertidal macrobenthos community was performed on five intertidal rocky stations of Hwasoon at Jeju Islands September 1999 to August 2000. The macrobenthos was composed of six phyla, 13 classes, 24 orders, 49 families, and 97 species. The dominant species of the upper zones were Nodilittorina exigua, Notoacmea schrenckii, Liolophura japonica and Patelloida saccharina. Those of the middle zones were Monodonta labio, Chthamalus challengeri, Siphonalia japonica and Liolophura japonica. Those of the lower zones were Siphonalia sirius, Patelloida saccharina, Chthamalus challengeri, and Liolophura japonica. The community dominance indices of the upper zones were much higher than those of the middle and lower zones. Species diversity and evenness in all investigated zones were highest in station 1 and lowest in staton 3. But, species richness was highest in station 1 and lowest in station 4.

This study was carried out to analyze the community structure and distribution of macrobenthos at the intertidal zone of Jukbyeon in Uljin-gun during 2015-2016. The number of species were total 41 from 5 phyla. The species composition of Cnidaria 4, Mollusca 19, Annelida 3, Arthropoda 13, Echinodermata 2 and the individuals was $1,642inds./m^2$ and the weight was $1,959.42gWWt./m^2$ in the study area. The dominant species of the upper zones were Chthamalus challengeri and Nodilittorina radiata. Those of the lower zones were Mytilus galloprovincialis, Nipponacmaea schrenckii and Chlorostoma turbinata. The dominant species of the upper zones of winter and spring were C. challengeri, the summer and autumn of the N. radiata. Those of the lower zones were all seasonal of M. galloprovincialis. As a result of cluster analysis, those regions were divided in three groups, which were a group A of December 2015, August 2015 and February to August 2016 of intertidal zone lower, group B of December 2016 and May 2015 of intertidal zone lower, group C of intertidal zone upper.
This study was conducted to understand the distribution and changes of macrobenthos on rocky intertidal areas around Taean thermoelectric power plant, Also, the purpose of this study was to produce a base-line data on the changes in water temperature due to the operation of the power plant and to understand its thermal impact on the macrobenthic community on intertidal rocky bottoms. A field survey was seasonally conducted at 3 rocky intertidal sites around the Taean thermal power plant. There was no seasonal difference in the community parameters such as number of species, mean density, biomass and species diversity during the study period. The major dominant species were Chthamalus challenger, Littorina brevicula, Crassostrea gigas. In comparison with previous study, thermal discharge in the study area did not significantly affect the distribution of dominant species. The structure of the macrobenthic community revealed that there were showed 3 different faunal groups depending on the difference in the mean density of major dominant species. The result of SIMPER analyses to determine which species were the main contributors to the differences between each community, C. challenger, Lottia spp. And Mytilus galloprovincialis, etc., revealed that there was showed a significant difference between each group. The abundance of M. galloprovincialis, showed a significant difference between faunal groups.
The study was performed in order to understand the association between organic matter content in the sediments and the distribution of macrobenthos in the intertidal zone of the Muan bay. The sediment samples obtained from 21 sampling sites in August 2019 were analyzed for sediment composition and organic matter content (Ignition loss; IL and Total organic carbon; TOC). Further the macro benthos was sorted and enumerated. The sediments of inner area of bay has coarser composition where mouth part of bay, the sediments were predominantly silty. The highest organic matter content (both of IL and TOC) was measured at station 10 located near the Mokpo area while the lowest values was measured at station 20 adjacent to the north side of the bay. The 4 most abundant species accounted for more than 10% of all specimens were Assiminea sp., Musculista senhousia, Cerithideopsilla cingulate and Heteromastus filiformis. The maximum number of species and density were observed at station 10. Cluster analysis and non-metric multidimensional scaling (MDS) allow identification of four benthic assemblages based on species abundance. The correlation analysis revealed that there was a significant difference (p<0.05) in the density with TOC. Based on the analysis; it was found that the distribution of macrobenthos varied with the differences in sediment composition and organic matter content.

Community structure of macrobenthos was studied on Angol clam farming ground of Chinhae Bay in the southern coast of Korea. Macrobenthos samples were collected monthly using a quadrate at each station from March 1998. Macrobenthos samples were seived by 1.0mm mesh seive. Mean grain size was 0.267 mm. A total of 111 macrobenthos species were sampled with a mean density of 1,651ind/m$^2$and biomass of 1466.7wwt.g/m$^2$. Annelida was density-dominant faunal group with a mean density of 818ind/m$^2$, comprising of 49.6% of the total density of the macrobenthos. It was followed by Mollusca with 660ind/m$^2$(40.0%). Mollusca was biomass-dominant faunal group. Major dominant species in the number of individual were Ruditapes philippinarum (375ind/m$^2$), Batillaria cumingi (208ind/m$^2$), Cirrformia tentaculata (167ind/m$^2$), Ceratonereis erithraeensis (151ind/m$^2$), Capitella capitata (111ind/m$^2$) and Sigambra tentaculata (91ind/m$^2$). Major dominant species in the biomass were Ruditapes philippinarum (1156.6wwt.g/m$^2$), Batillaria cumingi (111.0wwt.g/m$^2$) and Cyclina sinenis (106.2wwt.g/m$^2$). The species diversity was increased gradually during the study period. Increasing of species diversity was due to not only increasing of number of species but also decreasing of dominance of some polycheates. Contents of silt-clay was increased gradually in the intertidal zone.
This study was carried out to analyze the community structure and distribution of macrobenthos in Hakampo sandy shore. As for the environmental factors of sampling stations, the average grain size of the sediments from the sampling stations was $2.37{\phi}$ with the range of $1.90{\phi}{\sim}2.52{\phi}$, which represents the typical medium sand sedimentary facies of sandy beach. The average sediment organic content was 1.15% with the range of 0.90%~1.46%. Most stations had low sediment organic content which is typical of sandy beach. The number of species were total 59 from 6 taxa and the individuals was $668inds./m^2$ in the 10 stations of the study area. Based on the Bray-Curtis similarity analysis, the 10 stations of the study area were broadly divided into 3 groups. The highest part of intertidal zone was St. 2~St. 4, the middle part of intertidal zone was St. 5~St. 8, and the lower part of intertidal zone was St. 9~St. 10. A spatial community structure was observed which is divided into the highest, middle, and lower parts.
We measured grain size, organic matter, and metallic elements (Fe, Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd, Cr, Mn, Hg, and As) in intertidal sediments collected from six islands in the western part of Jellanam Province in order to evaluate heavy metal contamination in the tidal flat sediments of coastal islands. The evaluation of metal contamination was carried out using geochemical assessment techniques such as sediment quality guidelines (SQGs), enrichment factor (EF), and geoaccumulation index ($I_{geo}$). Surface sediments were classified into four sedimentary facies: sand, gravelly muddy sand, slightly gravelly mud, and silt. The concentrations of heavy metals in intertidal sediments from Jaeun, Amtae, Biguem, and Docho islands showed good positive correlations with mean grain size and ignition loss, indicating that the concentrations of metallic elements in these sediments were dependent on grain size and the organic matter content. The concentrations of heavy metals in sediments from almost all of the stations were lower than two criterion values proposed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in the United States. Based on the EF and $I_{geo}$ results, surface sediments were a little polluted for Cr and were moderately polluted for As. Our results suggest that more intensive studies are necessary in the future in order to determine the major source of As in intertidal sediment and to evaluate the As pollution level in macrobenthos.
This study was conducted during April-June in 2008 and 2010, following the Taean Oil Spill. We measured year-to-year changes in benthos species abundances and composition in 16 intertidal zone regions of Chungcheongnam-do. In total, 154 species were found 2008 and 134 in 2010; the mean abundance per area was $403ind./m^2$ and $242ind./m^2$, respectively. In 2008, the 10 dominant species included four species of arthropods, three species of annelids, and three species of mollusks. In 2010, dominant species included five species of annelids, three species of mollusks, one species of arthropods, and one other species. We used bray-curtis similarity to group species and found two groups in 2008 and five in 2010, complementing our NMDS analysis. Finally, we tested correlations between abiotic and biotic factors, and implemented a BIO-ENV analysis, which showed that sediment type, MZ (Phi), and organic content are important environmental factors affecting benthos in the Chung-nam tidal flats.

This study was carried out to investigate temporal and spatial distribution of macrobenthic community and elucidate effects of environmental factors on change of community structure in an intertidal flat, Hakseong-ri, Boryeong, Korea. Field surveys were seasonally conducted to collect samples of sediment and macrobenthos using can core in triplicate at nine stations in 2016 and 2017. Our results showed that sediment had high mud content (above 60%) in most samples and mean content of loss on ignition was 2.3% in 2016. A total of 79 species was collected in the study site during the study period. Mean density and biomass were 611 ind./m2 and 64.1 gWWt/m2, respectively. Heteromastus filiformis was the dominant species (48.6%, 297 ind./m2) followed by Macrophthalmus japonicus (10.1%, 62 ind./m2) and Upogebia major (6.9%, 42 ind./m2). Three assembly groups resulted from cluster analysis were more distinguished by interaction between organisms and frequency of dominant species than by physical and chemical environment characteristics. In addition, macrobenthic community in the Hakseong intertidal flat showed seasonal changes based on non metric multidimensional scaling using species abundance.
