Nowadays, it is possible to construct the DEMs of urban area effectively and economically by LiDAR system. But the data from LiDAR system has form of DSM which is included various objects as trees and buildings. So the preprocess is necessary to extract the DEMs from LiDAR DSMs for particular purpose as effects analysis of man-made objects for flood prediction. As this study is for extracting DEM from LiDAR DSM of urban area, we detected the edges of various objects using edge detecting algorithm of image process. And, we tried mean value filtering, median value filtering and minimum value filtering or detected edges instead of interpolation method which is used in the previous study and could be modified the source data. it could minimize the modification of source data, and the extracting process of DEMs from DSMs could be simplified and automated.

Airborne LIDAR system, utilized in various forest studies, provides efficiently spatial information about vertical structures of forest areas. The tree height is one of the most essential measurements to derive forest information such as biomass, which can be estimated from the forest terrain model. As the terrain model is generated by the interpolation of ground points extracted from LIDAR data, filtering methods with high reliability to classify reliably the ground points are required. In this paper, we applied three representative filtering methods to forest LIDAR data with diverse characteristics, measured the errors and performance of these methods, and analyzed the causes of the errors. Based on their complementary characteristics derived from the analysis results, we have attempted to combine the results and checked the performance improvement. In most test areas, the convergence method showed the satisfactory results, where the filtering performance were improved more than 10% in maximum. Also, we have generated DTM using the classified ground points and compared with the verification data. The DTM retains about 17cm RMSE, which can be sufficiently utilized for the derivation of forest information.

Natural disasters caused by climate change are increasing globally. There are few studies on the quantitative analysis methods for predicting damages in the island area due to sea level rise. Therefore, it is necessary to study the damage prediction analysis method using the GIS which can quantitatively analyze. In this paper, we analyze the cause and status of sea level rise, quantify the vulnerability index, establish an integrated terrestrial modeling method of the ocean and land, and establish a method of analyzing the damage area and damage scale due to sea level rise using GIS and the method of making the damage prediction figure was studied. In order to extract the other affected areas to sea level rise are apart of the terrain model is generated by one requires a terrain modeling of target areas are offshore and vertical reference system differences in land, found the need for correction by a tidal observations and geoid model there was. Grading of terrain, coastline erosion rate, coastal slope, sea level rise rate, and even average by vulnerable factors due to sea level rise indicates that quantitative damage prediction is possible due to sea level rise in the island area. In the case of vulnerable areas extracted by GIS, residential areas and living areas are concentrated on the coastal area due to the nature of the book area, and field survey shows that coastal changes and erosion are caused by sea level rise or tsunami.

The calculation of earthwork plays a major role in plan or design of many civil engineering projects, and thus it has become very important to advanced the accuracy of earthwork calculation. Current methods used for estimating the volume of pit excavation assumes that the ground profile between the grid points is linear(trapezoidal rule), or nonlinear(simpson's formulas). Generally speaking. the nonlinear profile formulas provide better accuracy than the linear profile formulas. However, all the formulas mentioned have a common drawback to ground profile, such as sharp corners or the grid points of any two straight lines. In this paper, mathematical model for a searching examination the drawbacks of the current methods is presented. Also, the presented formular, the spot height method, and chamber formulas, chen and lin method are compared with the volumes of the pits in these examples. As a result of this study, algorithm of a proposal area formula by spline method should provide a better accuracy than the spot height method, chamber formulas, chen and lin method. The mathematical model mentioned make an offer maximum accuracy in estimating the volume of a pit excavation.

The standard approach of image resampling is to fit the original image with continuous model and resample the function at a desired rate. We used the B-spline function as the continuous model because it oscillates less than the others. The main purpose of this paper is the derivation of a nonuniform optimal resampling algorithm. To derive it, needing approximation can be computed in three steps: 1) determining the I-spline coefficients by matrix inverse process, 2) obtaining the transformed-spline coefficients by the optimal resampling algorithm derived from the orthogonal projection theorem, 3) converting of the result back into the signal domain by indirect B-spline transformation. With these methods, we can use B-spline in the non-uniform resampling, which is proved to be a good kernel in uniform resampling, and can also verify the applicability from our experiments.
This paper proposes to synthesize facial images from a few parameters for the pose and the expression of their constituent components. This parameterization makes the representation, storage, and transmission of face images effective. But it is difficult to parameterize facial images because variations of face images show a complicated nonlinear manifold in high-dimensional data space. To tackle this problem, we use an LLE (Locally Linear Embedding) technique for a good representation of face images, where the relationship among face images is preserving well and the projected manifold into the reduced feature space becomes smoother and more continuous. Next, we apply a snake model to estimate face feature values in the reduced feature space that corresponds to a specific pose and/or expression parameter. Finally, a synthetic face image is obtained from an interpolation of several neighboring face images in the vicinity of the estimated feature value. Experimental results show that the proposed method shows a negligible overlapping effect and creates an accurate and consistent synthetic face images with respect to changes of pose and/or expression parameters.
Recently, many researches of making more comfortable input device based on gaze detection technology have been performed in human computer interface. Previous researches were performed on the computer environment with a large sized monitor. With recent increase of using mobile device, the necessities of interfacing by gaze detection on mobile environment were also increased. In this paper, we research about the gaze detection method by using UMPC (Ultra-Mobile PC) and an embedded camera of UMPC based on face and facial feature detection by AAM (Active Appearance Model). This paper has following three originalities. First, different from previous research, we propose a method for tracking user's gaze position in mobile device which has a small sized screen. Second, in order to detect facial feature points, we use AAM. Third, gaze detection accuracy is not degraded according to Z distance based on the normalization of input features by using the features which are obtained in an initial user calibration stage. Experimental results showed that gaze detection error was 1.77 degrees and it was reduced by mouse dragging based on the additional facial movement.

In this study, for the purpose of collecting and analyzing target-specific RCS data of target signals simulator for verification/improvement of radar system performance, VHF band monostatic/bistatic RCS of civil aircraft(B-747, B-737) and fighter(F-16) models were analyzed by EM simulation tool. In order to reduce the RCS analysis time, the analysis time and RCS data were compared and cross-verified. Also, the analysis range was selected by examining the interpolation error according to the analysis angle resolution. The RCS data obtained for each model were analyzed separately by the incident/reflection elevation angle and frequency. The RCS characteristics according to the shape of the aircraft and the incident/reflection azimuth angle were described. Finally, the statistical RCS distribution value of each model is presented through RCS distribution histogram analysis. In the future, the RCS database obtained by this study will be used for the target signals simulator of the VHF band radar system.
A long-term gridded historical data at 3 km spatial resolution has been generated for practical regional applications such as hydrologic modelling. However, overly high or low values have been found at some grid points where complex topography or sparse observational network exist. In this study, the Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW) method was applied to properly smooth the overly predicted values of Improved GIS-based Regression Model (IGISRM), called the IDW-IGISRM grid data, at the same resolution for daily precipitation, maximum temperature and minimum temperature from 2001 to 2010 over South Korea. We tested various effective distances in the IDW method to detect an optimal distance that provides the highest performance. IDW-IGISRM was compared with IGISRM to evaluate the effectiveness of IDW-IGISRM with regard to spatial patterns, and quantitative performance metrics over 243 AWS observational points and four selected stations showing the largest biases. Regarding the spatial pattern, IDW-IGISRM reduced irrational overly predicted values, i. e. producing smoother spatial maps that IGISRM for all variables. In addition, all quantitative performance metrics were improved by IDW-IGISRM; correlation coefficient (CC), Index Of Agreement (IOA) increase up to 11.2% and 2.0%, respectively. Mean Absolute Error (MAE) and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) were also reduced up to 5.4% and 15.2% respectively. At the selected four stations, this study demonstrated that the improvement was more considerable. These results indicate that IDW-IGISRM can improve the predictive performance of IGISRM, consequently providing more reliable high-resolution gridded data for assessment, adaptation, and vulnerability studies of climate change impacts.
Finite element simulations of solid mechanics problems often involve the use of Non-Confirming Meshes (NCM) to increase accuracy in capturing nonlinear behavior, including damage and plasticity, in part of a solid domain without an undue increase in computational costs. In the presence of material nonlinearity and plasticity, higher-order variables are often needed to capture nonlinear behavior and material history on non-conforming interfaces. The most popular formulations for coupling non-conforming meshes are dual methods that involve the interpolation of a traction field on the interface. These methods are subject to the Ladyzhenskaya-Babuska-Brezzi (LBB) stability condition, and are therefore limited in their implementation with the higher-order elements needed to capture nonlinear material behavior. Alternatively, the enriched discontinuous Galerkin approach (EDGA) (Haikal and Hjelmstad 2010) is a primal method that provides higher order kinematic fields on the interface, and in which interface tractions are computed from local finite element estimates, therefore facilitating its implementation with nonlinear material models. The inclusion of higher-order interface variables, however, presents the issue of preserving material history at integration points when a increase in integration order is needed. In this study, the enriched discontinuous Galerkin approach (EDGA) is extended to the case of small-deformation plasticity. An interface-driven Gauss-Kronrod integration rule is proposed to enable adaptive enrichment on the interface while preserving history-dependent material data at existing integration points. The method is implemented using classical J2 plasticity theory as well as the pressure-dependent Drucker-Prager material model. We show that an efficient treatment of interface variables can improve algorithmic performance and provide a consistent approach for coupling non-conforming meshes in inelasticity.
