Purpose The purpose of this study is to empirically identify the risky behavior of mobile device users using the Internet of Things on a situational perspective. Design/methodology/approach This study made a design of the research model based on model of the determinants of risk behavior. Data were collected through a survey including hypothetical scenario. SmartPLS 2.0 was used for the structural model analysis and t-test was conducted to compare the between normal and situational behavior. Findings The results were as follows. First, the central roles of risk propriety and risk perception were verified empirically. Second, we identified the role of locus of control as a new factor of impact on risky behavior. Third, mobile risk propensity has been shown to increase risk perception. Fouth, it has been shown that risk perception does not directly affect risky behavior and reduce the relationship between mobile risk propensity and risk behavior. According to the empirical analysis result, Determinants of risk behavior for mobile users were identified based on a theoretical framework. And it raised the need to pay attention to the impact of locus of control on risk behavior in the IS security field. It provided direction to the approach to risky behavior of mobile device users. In addition, this study confirmed that there was a possibility of taking risky behavior in the actual decision-making.

Passive wireless devices have increasing civilian and military applications, especially in the scenario with wearable devices and Internet of Things. In this paper, we study indoor localization of a target equipped with radio-frequency identification (RFID) device in ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless networks. With known room layout, deterministic multipath components, including the line-of-sight (LOS) signal and the reflected signals via multipath propagation, are employed to locate the target with one transmitter and a single inaccurate receiver. A factor graph corresponding to the joint posterior position distribution of target and receiver is constructed. However, due to the mixed distribution in the factor node of likelihood function, the expressions of messages are intractable by directly applying belief propagation on factor graph. To this end, we approximate the messages by Gaussian distribution via minimizing the Kullback-Leibler divergence (KLD) between them. Accordingly, a parametric message passing algorithm for indoor passive localization is derived, in which only the means and variances of Gaussian distributions have to be updated. Performance of the proposed algorithm and the impact of critical parameters are evaluated by Monte Carlo simulations, which demonstrate the superior performance in localization accuracy and the robustness to the statistics of multipath channels.

With the help of a small wearable device, patients reside in an isolated village need constant monitoring which may increase access to care and decrease healthcare delivery cost. As the number of patients' requests increases in simultaneously manner, the web service gateway located in the village hall encounters limitations for performing them successfully and concurrently. The gateway based RESTful technology responsible for handling patients' requests attests an internet latency in case a large number of them submit toward the gateway increases. In this paper, we propose the design tasks of the web service gateway for handling concurrency events. In the procedure of designing tasks, concurrency is best understood by employing multiple levels of abstraction. The way that is eminently to accomplish concurrency is to build an object-oriented environment with support for messages passing between concurrent objects. We also investigate the performance of event-driven architecture for building web service gateway using node.js. The experiments results show that server-side JavaScript with Node.js and MongoDB as database is 40% faster than Apache Sling. With Node.js developers can build a high-performance, asynchronous, event-driven healthcare hub server to handle an increasing number of concurrent connections for Remote Healthcare Monitoring System in an isolated village with no access to local medical care.

Citizens' distrust of water pollution is very high in tap water that we routinely drink. In addition, water pollution accidents of tap water are difficult to predict and the risk is high, so real-time monitoring and management are needed. Therefore, it is necessary to introduce real-time water quality monitoring using the Internet of things(IoT). Residual chlorine is more persistent and economical than other disinfectants and it is easy to check residual effect, so it is mainly used as a disinfection index in waterworks. It can be monitored in real time by using IoT technology in order to secure the safety of tap water. In this study, we developed smart device for real-time water quality monitoring using amperometry sensor and analyzed its performance.

In the Internet of Things (IoT), resource-constrained devices such as sensors are capable of communicating and exchanging data over the Internet. The IETF standard group has specified an application protocol CoAP, which uses UDP as a transport protocol, allows such a lightweight device to transmit data. Also, the IETF recommended the DTLS binding for securing CoAP. However, additional features should be added to the DTLS protocol to resolve several problems such as packet loss, reordering, fragmentation and replay attack. Consequently, performance of DTLS is worse than TLS. It is highly required for lightweight devices powered by small battery to design and implement a security protocol in an energy efficient manner. This paper thus discusses about DTLS performance in the perspective of energy consumption. To analyze the performance, we implemented IEEE 802.15.4 based test network consisting of constrained sensor devices in the Cooja simulator. We measured energy consumptions required for each of DTLS client and server in the test network. This paper compares the energy consumption and amount of transmitted data of each flight of DTLS handshake, and the processing and receiving time. We present the analyzed results with regard to code size, cipher primitive and fragmentation as well.

The smart tourism service provides services such as travel planning and tour guides to tourists using key technologies of the 4th industrial revolution, such as the Internet of Things, communication infrastructure, big data, artificial intelligence, AR/VR, and drones. We are developing smart tourism services such as recommended travel products, my travel itinerary, tourism information, and chatbots for tourists through the smart tourism app. In this paper, we develop a smart tourism service system that provides real-time location-based tourism information and weather information to tourists. The smart tourism service system consists of a smart tourism app, a smart tourism information system, and an IoT data collection device. The smart tourism information system receives weather information from the IoT data collection device installed in the tourist destination. The location-based smart tourism service is provided as a smart tourism app in the smart tourism information system according to the Beacon's UUID in the IoT data collection device. The smart tourism information system stores the Beacon's UUIDs received from tourists and provides a safe hiking service for tourists.

Today, IoT devices are flooding, and traffic is increasing rapidly. The Internet of Things creates a variety of added value through connections between devices, while many devices are easily targeted by attackers due to security vulnerabilities. In the IoT environment, security diagnosis has problems such as having to provide different solutions for different types of devices in network situations where various types of devices are interlocked, personal leakage of security solutions themselves, and high cost, etc. To avoid such problems, a TCP-based active scan was presented. However, the TCP-based active scan has limitations that it is difficult to be applied to real-time systems due to long detection times. To complement this, this study uses UDP-based approaches. Specifically, a lightweight active scan algorithm that effectively identifies devices using UPnP protocols (SSDP, MDNS, and MBNS) that are most commonly used by manufacturers is proposed. The experimental results of this study have shown that devices can be distinguished by more than twice the true positive and recall at an average time of 1524 times faster than Nmap, which has a firm position in the field.

Recently, the biometric-based authentication systems such as FIDO (Fast Identity Online) are increased in mobile computing environments. The biometric-based authentication systems are performed on the mobile devices with the battery, the improving energy efficiency is important issue. In the case, the size of images (i.e., face, fingerprint, iris, and etc.) affects both recognition accuracy and energy consumption, and hence the tradeoff analysis between the both recognition accuracy and energy consumption is necessary. In this paper, we propose an energy-efficient way to authenticate based on biometric information with tradeoff analysis between the both recognition accuracy and energy consumption in multimedia IoT (Internet of Things) transmission environments. We select the facial information among biometric information, and especially consider the multicore-based mobile devices. Based on our experimental results, we prove that the proposed approach can enhance the energy efficiency of GABOR+LBP+GRAY VALUE, GABOR+LBP, GABOR, and LBP by factors of 6.8, 3.6, 3.6, and 2.4 over the baseline, respectively, while satisfying user's face recognition accuracy.
