  • With recent surge of Internet use, many people become concerned with side effects of Internet. Especially Internet addiction has become a significant issue. As the rate of teenagers' Internet use is higher than the rates of other age groups, and Internet takes an important part in teenagers' everyday lives, many people become concerned with Internet addition. Internet addiction is salient even among elementary school students. The purpose of this study is to grasp the realities of elementary students' Internet addiction using an evaluation tool developed for elementary school students, and to analyze differences in the addiction rate according to students' gender and grade. A survey was conducted to 989 5th and 6th graders selected from nationwide schools. The results of this study show that 5.0% of the students are in the stage of serious addiction, and 15.7% in the stage of early addiction. In addition, significant differences are found between boys and girls and between 5th graders and 6th graders.

  • An internet addiction measure(Park et al., 2001) and an asocial behavior measure(K. J. Lee, 1997) were administered to 232 6th-grade students. Statistical analyses were by mean-difference scores and t-test. Results showed that all aspects of internet addiction(preoccupation, compulsive use, relapse, tolerance/dependence and impediments in daily life) were related to both the inner asocial behaviors of depression, social withdrawal and over-anxiety and the external asocial behaviors of aggressiveness, delinquency and hyperactivity. The only exception was that tolerance/dependence was not related to delinquency. Boys addicted to the internet were more socially withdrawn, aggressive, delinquent and hyperactive than girls. From the results, it can be suggested that internet education should be carried out from the elementary educational level.

  • Internet is widely spreading in everyday life and it makes easy to find and share information on the Internet. Many of Internet users are copying and distributing copyrighted materials freely on the Internet without recognizing that it is unethical and illegal behavior. The rate of Internet piracy is constantly increasing even though the regulation and punishment for piracy behavior are to be strict. However, there is a lack of study about the relationship between the punishment and education for intenet piracy on users' attitude and intention toward piracy on the Internet. The purpose of this study is therefore to find out the effect of the level of punishment for internet piracy on users' attitude and intention. This study also examines the moderating effect of piracy education on the relationship between punishment and piracy intention. The study shows that the punishment is directly associated with the attitude but not associated with the piracy intention. The piracy education has a significant effect on the relationship between punishment and intention. The result of this study could bring up the issue of intellectual property protection on the Intenet and suggest an importance of piracy education to educators, managers and internet users.

  • This study was conducted to compare the acquiring and using patterns of information about food and nutrition between medical professional group (MP) and non-medical professionals group (NP). Questionnaire survey were done by total 310 subjects, 149 doctors/nurses (MP) working in Dankook University Hospital and 161 general laborers (NP) in Cheonan area. Personal characteristics, interests in food and nutrition information, and application of information about food and nutrition were asked in questionnaire. Age of MP and NP ranged from 20 to 50. In education level, 59.8% of MP and 46.6% of NP had college degree. The source of information favored the most was the internet website, 53.0% in MP and 51.6% in NP. The most interested information subjects in MP were ‘the diet therapy related to diseases’, and ‘cooking recipes’ in NP. The information was applied to their real life in 55.7% of MP and 58.4% of NP. The percentiles who would like to take part in the education about food and nutrition through internet system were 44.3% of MP and 34.8% of NP. From the results of this study, we concluded that many of MP and NP wanted and needed the education on food and nutrition through internet system. For being the better and more efficient source for the information about food and nutrition, internet websites should provide accurate informations and easier method to find the needed information to the users.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of web-based diabetic education on glycosylated hemoglobin(HbAlc) and self-care in people with type 2 diabetes. Method: Twenty-five patients were requested to input the blood glucose level weekly at http://www.biodang.com by cellular phone or wired Internet for one year. The researcher sent optimal recommendations weekly to each patient using the short message service for cellular phones and wired Internet. Results: Patients had a significant mean decrease in HbAlc, from 8.0% at pre-test to 6.9%, after three months and rested at 6.8% until 12 months. Patients had a significant mean increase in physical exercise adherence, from 3.3 days at pre-test to 4.1 days per week, after three months. Patients had a significant mean increase in foot care adherence, from 4.8 days at pre-test to 6.9 days per week, after one year. Conclusion: These findings indicate that Internet education could be used to improve HbAlc, physical exercise, and foot care adherence in type 2 diabetic patients.

  • Some blind spots of information were occurring because important information such as school events, employment information, attendance information, and major school schedules were currently communicated through home communication messages only. To address this problem, an e-Board prototype was designed to incorporate P2P-based Internet of Things technology in a wired and wireless network based on a survey of data on smart education based on the Internet of Things. In each classroom, necessary information, such as school events, was received in real time from the classroom and shared in the classroom. They also want to design an e-Board prototype for Internet of Things-based smart education because they are easily accessible to anyone even if they do not know how to use e-Board.

  • Perceived control and use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has long been known as important aspects of students' achievement. The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between adolescents' perceived achievement goals, their Individual ICT use, ICT use for government-sponsored educational programs on television or the Internet, academic achievement and the attitude toward learning. Most previous research has employed cross-sectional data analysis using relatively small samples. For this purpose, this study used the datasets of the Seoul Education Longitudinal Study (SELS 2011) from Seoul Educational Research & Information Institute. We analyzed structural equation modeling (SEM) a nationally represented sample (4,346 eighth-grade students). The results of this study showed that students' perceived achievement goals had a positive relationship with their individual ICT use, and their use of ICT programs for government-sponsored educational programs on television or the Internet. Also, students' individual ICT use had a positive relationship with their achievement, but ICT use for government-sponsored educational programs on television or the Internet did not have a significant relationship with their achievement. That is, students' individual ICT use mediated the relationship between their perceived goals and academic achievement. In addition, results indicated that students' individual ICT use and ICT use for government-sponsored educational programs on television or the Internet had a positive relationship with their attitude toward learning. That is, both students' individual ICT use and ICT use for government-sponsored educational programs on television or the Internet mediated the relationship between their perceived goals and their attitude toward learning.

  • This study examined the effects of self-esteem, relationships with parents and peer relationships on adolescents' internet addiction among middle school students. Data were derived from 439 students in the 8th grade. The results of the study showed that internet addiction was higher in male adolescents compared to female adolescents. This study identified that internet addiction of male adolescents was affected by low levels of self-esteem and peer relationships. Poor relationship with parents and low levels of peer relationships were factors influencing internet addiction among female adolescents. It might be useful to improve interpersonal relations based on peers' interactions and to strengthen family relations in order to prevent internet addiction. In addition, it would help to develop educational programs and youth programs for preventing adolescents' internet addiction.
