  • Previous papers analyzed the throughput performance of the CDMA ALOHA system in Rayleigh fading channel, but they assume that the channel coefficient of Rayleigh fading was the same in the whole packet, which is not realistic. We recently proposed the finite-state Markov channel (FSMC) model to the throughput analysis of DS uncoded CDMA/unslotted ALOHA networks for fixed length data traffic in the mobile environment. We now propose the FSMC model to the throughput analysis of coded DS CDMA/unslotted ALOHA networks with variable length data traffic and one or two user classes in the mobile environment. The proposed DS CDMA/unslotted ALOHA wireless networks for two user classes with access control can maintain maximum throughput for the high priority user class under high message arrival per packet duration.

  • Rendezvous is a process of two or more cognitive radio nodes gathering on the same channel at the same time for a negotiation to establish data communications. This paper discusses rendezvous issues in cognitive radio networks. It details why rendezvous is an issue in cognitive radio networks and how rendezvous works. It classifies channel access methods, and details sequence-based channel-hopping methods. It surveys existing works on blind rendezvous and compares the proposed algorithms in terms of the maximum time to rendezvous. This paper discusses the properties that an efficient channel-hopping rendezvous algorithm should have and illustrates common issues in the existing rendezvous methods. It also explains open research issues in the rendezvous area.

  • Football (soccer) is one of the most popular sports in the world. A huge number of people watch live football matches by TV or Internet. A football match takes 90 minutes, but viewers may only want to watch a few highlights to save their time. As far as we know, there is no such a product that can be put into use to achieve intelligent highlight extraction from live football matches. In this paper, we propose an intelligent editing system for live football matches. Our system can automatically extract a series of highlights, such as goal, shoot, corner kick, red yellow card and the appearance of star players, from the live stream of a football match. Our system has been integrated into live streaming platforms during the 2018 FIFA World Cup and performed fairly well.

  • The capacity of backbone networks has largely kept pace with the tremendous of growth of Internet traffic. But there has been little progress in the access networks. In this paper, we introduce the access network that is able to offers high bandwidth and its simple protocol. The network architecture is basically multiple ring and use WDM(Wavelength Division Multiplexing), SCM (SubCarrier Multiplexing), and static WADM (Wavelenth Add/Drop Multiplexer) for simplicity, low cost, and offering high bandwidth.

  • This paper introduces a data storage transport protocol internet Advanced Technology Attachment (iATA) for ATA storage devices that can be accessed over (TCP/IP) networks. As the access speed of Advanced Technology Attachment (ATA) type storage is increasing, the importance of sharing the ATA type storages over internet is also increasing. We are proposing a protocol in which we have implemented the basic ATA command set to access the ATA type remote storage devices over the TCP/IP networks. In this paper, we give basic details of the protocol and discuss the existing storage protocols which are mainly used for accessing block storage like internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI) Hyper Small Computer System Interface (HyperSCSI) and ATA over Ethernet (AoE).

  • In-band Full-duplex (IBFD) wireless communication allows improved throughput for wireless networks. The current Half-duplex (HD) medium access mechanism Request to Send/Clear to Send (RTS/CTS) has been directly applied to IBFD wireless networks. However, this is only able to support a symmetric dual link, and does not provide the full advantages of IBFD. To increase network throughput in a superior way to the HD mechanism, a novel three-way handshaking access mechanism RTS/SRTS (Second Request to Send)/CTS is proposed for point to multipoint (PMP) IBFD wireless networks, which can support both symmetric dual link and asymmetric dual link communication. In this approach, IBFD wireless communication only requires one channel access for two-way simultaneous packet transmissions. We first describe the RTS/SRTS/CTS mechanism and the symmetric/asymmetric dual link transmission procedure and then provide a theoretical analysis of network throughput and delay using a Markov model. Using simulations, we demonstrate that the RTS/SRTS/CTS access mechanism shows improved performance relative to that of the RTS/CTS HD access mechanism.

  • An enhanced irregular repetition slotted ALOHA (IRSA) protocol is proposed by using polarization characteristic of satellite link and MIMO detection in low earth orbit (LEO) satellite networks, which is dubbed polarized MIMO IRSA (PM-IRSA). In the proposed scheme, one or two packets in one slot can be decoded by employing polarized MIMO detection, and more than two collided packets in multiple slots which can construct the virtual MIMO model can be decoded by the MIMO detection algorithm. The performance of the proposed scheme is analyzed with the density evolution (DE) approach and the degree distribution is optimized to maximize the system throughput by using a differential evolution. Numerical results certify our analysis and show that the normalized throughput of the proposed PM-IRSA can achieve 1.89 bits/symbol.

  • One of the most innovative paradigms for the next-generation of wireless cellular networks is the cloud-radio access networks (C-RANs). In C-RANs, base station functions are distributed between the remote radio heads (RHHs) and base band unit (BBU) pool, and a communication link is defined between them which is referred as the fronthaul. This leveraging link is expected to reduce the CAPEX (capital expenditure) and OPEX (operating expense) of envisioned cellular architectures as well as improves the spectral and energy efficiencies, provides the high scalability, and efficient mobility management capabilities. The fronthaul link carries the baseband signals between the RRHs and BBU pool using the digital radio over fiber (RoF) based common public radio interface (CPRI). CPRI based optical links imposed stringent synchronization, latency and throughput requirements on the fronthaul. As a result, fronthaul becomes a hinder in commercial deployments of C-RANs and is seen as one of a major bottleneck for backbone networks. The optimization of fronthaul is still a challenging issue and requires further exploration at industrial and academic levels. This paper comprehensively summarized the current challenges and requirements of fronthaul networks, and discusses the recently proposed system architectures, virtualization techniques, key transport technologies and compression schemes to carry the time-sensitive traffic in fronthaul networks.

  • Recent trends require that access to the device/equipment information be provided from several locations or anywhere in the enterprise. One example is virtual machine/manufacturing system (VMS) where predictive maintenance is performed both on factory floor and in remote site through internet [1]. Internet access is increasingly available and affordable, and along with the "internet" is the backbone of modern enterprise data networks. Typical functions of such a system includes monitoring and control for diagnosis and remedy action in realizing preventive maintenance.(omitted)

  • The IEEE 802.15.6 standard is introduced to satisfy all the requirements for monitoring systems operating in, on, or around the human body. In this paper, analytical models are developed for evaluating the performance of the IEEE 802.15.6 CSMA/CA-based medium access control protocol for wireless body area networks (WBAN) under unsaturation condition. We employ a three-dimensional Markov chain to model the backoff procedure, and an M/G/1/K queuing system to describe the packet queues in the buffer. The throughput and delay performances of WBAN operating in the beacon mode are analyzed in heterogeneous network comprised of different user priorities. Simulation results are included to demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed analytical model.
