국제우주정거장 범용 데이터인터페이스 시뮬레이터 설계 및 검증 (DESIGN AND REALIZATION OF UNIVERSAL DATA INTERFACE SIMULATOR FOR INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION)

  • 현재 추진 중인 국제우주정거장 우주실험장비 개발에 대비하여 한국항공우주연구원에서는 우주 활용을 위한 데이터인터페이스를 조사/분석하였고, 이를 국제우주정거장 (ISS; International Space Station)의 데이터인터페이스 시뮬레이터에 적용하여 설계 및 제작을 완료하였다. 본 논문에서는 우주활용을 위한 국제우주정거장 데이터인터페이스 시뮬레이터 개발의 설계/구현에 관한 내용을 설명한다. 국제우주정 거장 데이터인터페이스 시뮬레이터는 실험장비, 탑재체, 주거 시설 등 국제우주정거장으로 데이터를 송수신하는 장치에 대한 모의 실험을 위한 장비로 범용적인 유인 우주 실험장비를 개발하는데 활용하기 장비이다. 또한 추후 탑재모듈 개발 시 GSE (Ground Station Equipment) 개발을 위한 초기연구로써의 의의도 있으며, 향후 개발될 우주실험 장비의 국제우주정거장과의 호환성 시험에도 활용 가능하다.

  • This paper first gives a brief overview of the history of space law making in the international geopolitical context and recalls some of the main principles as elaborated in the framework of the United Nations. Next, several topics are discussed that will require the attention of space lawyers in the near future. They are the International Space Station, space debris, exploitation of space resources, space tourism, private property rights in space, and militarization and weaponization of space. The paper raises some questions in each of these areas that need to be addressed and concludes that the general legal framework for space activities under public international law as contained in the UN treaties is in place, and is sufficiently general and flexible to enable and encourage states to carry out space activities in an orderly manner. However, as demonstrated by the examples discussed in the paper, the time has come for the international community to agree on the further development of these general principles, starting perhaps with space debris, imminent 'new' uses of space such as space tourism, or some of the 'age old' issues such as the weaponisation of outer space that will continue to require our attention and vigilance. Whether such rules can be in the form of non binding guidelines, codes of conduct and the like, or should be embodied in solid legal instruments creating rights and obligations remains to be seen.

  • This Article examines a structure of two Conventions of Space Station, compares 1988 Convention and 1998 Convention, and tries to apply "model" to it. The structure of 1988 Convention shows us three phases: the Convention as a framework, the bilateral memorandum of understanding and the legislation by domestic process of United States. There were many advantageous provisions for United States. In 1998 Convention, however, those provisions are dampened and provisions become impartial, for example, the criminal jurisdiction, the right of intellectual property and the codes of conducts in Space Station. On the other hand, we sets the "model" up, that is "input of national benefits and ideas ${\Rightarrow}$ process of law-making ${\Rightarrow}$ output of common benefits, universal ideas and wastes." In the case of applying this "model" to 1988 and 1998 Conventions, we are convinced of enough possibility to understand and explain the legal system of Space Station by this "model." This result awakes us that study of legal system of Space Station according to the "model" influences the fundamental theory of International Law Study: the relation between international law and domestic law. This "model" has possibility to change the theory of relation between from "international law and domestic law" to "domestic law and domestic law through international legal system." In the end, we should reconsider on "policy-oriented jurisprudence" by professor McDougal to use his key words for explanation of concepts in the "model," because his theory contains important suggestions to the study of law-making process and legal system for outer space activities in the near future.

Development and Characterization of Tissue Equivalent Proportional Counter for Radiation Monitoring in International Space Station

  • Tissue equivalent proportional counter (TEPC) can measure the Linear Energy Transfer (LET) spectrum and calculate the equivalent dose for the complicated radiation field in space. In this paper, we developed and characterized a TEPC for radiation monitoring in International Space Station (ISS). The prototype TEPC which can simulate a 2 ${\mu}m$ of the site diameter for micro-dosimetry has been tested with a standard alpha source ($^{241}Am$, 5.5 MeV). Also, the calibration of the TEPC was performed by the $^{252}Cf$ neutron standard source in Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS). The determined calibration factor was $k_f=3.59{\times}10^{-7}$ mSv/R.

  • The first Korean satellite laser ranging (SLR) system, Daedeok SLR station (DAEK station) was developed by Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) in 2012, whose main objectives are space geodesy researches. In consequence, Korea became the $25^{th}$ country that operates SLR system supplementing the international laser tracking network. The DAEK station is designed to be capable of 2 kHz laser ranging with precision of a few mm both in daytime and nighttime observation of satellites with laser retro-reflector array (LRA) up to the altitude of 25,000 km. In this study, characteristics and specifications of DAEK station are investigated and its data quality is evaluated and compared with International Laser Ranging Service (ILRS) stations in terms of single-shot ranging precision. The analysis results demonstrated that the DAEK station shows good ranging performance to a few mm precision. Currently, the DAEK station is under normal operations at KASI headquarters, however, it will be moved to Sejong city in 2014 to function as a fundamental station for space geodesy researches in combination with other space geodesy systems (GNSS, VLBI, DORIS, etc.).

  • This paper gives an overview of research on the field of structure vibration-attitude coordinated control of spacecraft. First of all, the importance of the technology has been given an introduction, and then later the research progress of space structure dynamics modeling, research progress of structure vibration-attitude coordinated control of flexible spacecraft have been discussed respectively. Finally, future research on application of structure vibration-attitude coordinated control of spacecraft has been recommended.

  • ISS UDIS (International Sapce Station Universal Data Interface simulator) is a data communication interface simulator between ISS and instrument. This paper explains design concept, and verifies operations of ISS UDIS simulator. By realization of the simulator, we ensure data interface skills for a manned-space data communication system.

  • Due to a significant leap in the science and technology, the manned space exploration that has started with suborbital flights is now being expanded into the deep space. The space superpowers such as the U.S. and Russia have been making an effort to further develop the manned space technology. Among such technologies, the fire safety technology in microgravity has recolonized as one of the most critical factors that must be considered for the manned space mission design since the realistic fire broke out onboard the Mir station in 1997. In the present study, the flame characteristics such as flame ignition, shape, spread, and extinction that are critical to understand the fire behavior under microgravity conditions are described and discussed. The absence of buoyancy in microgravity dominates the mass transport driven by diffusiophoretic and thermophorectic fluxes (that are negligible in normal gravity) and influences the overall flame characteristics-flame ignition, shape, spread, and extinction. In addition, the cabin environments of the pressurized module (PM) including the oxygen concentration, ambient pressure, and ventilation flow(which are always coupled with microgravity condition during the ISS operation) are found to be the most important aspects in characterizing the fire behavior in microgravity.

레이더를 이용한 국제우주정거장 추적 및 궤도결정 (Tracking and Orbit Determination of International Space Station using Radar)

  • 우주파편의 증가는 지구궤도 환경을 날이 갈수록 복잡하게 만들고 있고 우주상황인식(SSA)의 중요성은 날로 높아지고 있다. 우주상황인식의 필수적인 분야인 우주물체 감시 및 추적은 미국과 유럽을 비롯한 세계 각국에서 활발히 연구가 진행되고 있으며, 레이더는 우주물체 감시 및 추적에 중추적인 역할을 하는 센서이다. 한국은 현재 다목적실용위성 등 다수의 저궤도위성을 운영 중이지만, 위성과 우주물체간의 충돌 감시를 위한 전용레이더는 보유하고 있지 않다. 하지만 한국항공우주연구원 나로우주센터는 발사체 궤적을 추적하기 위한 레이더를 고흥과 제주에 각각 운영하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 나로호 발사체 추적레이더를 국제우주정거장 추적에 사용하기 위해 운용개념을 개발한 내용과 국제우주정거장을 추적한 내용을 기술한다. 또한 추적결과 획득한 레이더 데이터를 이용하여 국제우주정거장을 궤도결정한 내용을 기술하고 TLE와 비교하여 궤도결정의 유효성을 분석하였다.
