LDV measurements were conducted on the planes between impeller blades of torque converter. The flow fields are extremely complex because they contain unsteady viscous three-dimensional flows. Besides of their complexity, the difference in rotor speeds between the impeller and turbine compound the flow effects. The good spatial resolution of the LDV allows measurements of the instantaneous flow structures within the impeller passage, yielding valuable information about the production automotive torque converter in realistic operating conditions. It was found that the mass flow rates are strongly related with the internal flow characteristics of torque converter.
The direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method is applied to investigate the flow field of a disk-type drag pump. The pumping channels are cut on both sides of a rotating disk. The rotor has 10 Archimedes' spiral blades. In the present DSMC method, the variable hard sphere model is used as a molecular model, and the no time counter method is employed as a collision sampling technique. For simulation of diatomic gas flows, the Larsen-Borgnakke phenomenological model is adopted to redistribute the translational and internal energies.
A multiblock grid generation has been developed to be reliably used for a Navier-Stokes simulation of the turbomachinery flow-fields A multiblock structure simplifies the creation of structured H-grids about complex turbomachinery geometries and facilitate the creation of a grid in the tip flow region. The numerical algorithm adopts the combination of the algebraic and elliptic method to create the internal grids efficiently and quickly. The grid refinement process is enhanced by developing strategies to utilized Bezier curves and splines along with weighted transfinite interpolation technique and by formulating the grid-imbedding method for the viscous boundary-layer meshes. For purposes of illustration, the grid generator is applied to the high turning turbine rotor blades. Two different types of computational grids are provided to be compared with respect to the grid adaptation to the flow simulations. Extension to three-dimensions was done to show the possibility of its application to the tip-flow simulations. The grid quality of the multiblock structure is good in the passages, with gloval orthogonality and adequate smoothness.

Blades of wind energy plants are exposed to external shocks or internal cracks during operation. Furthermore, the blade surfaces can be contaminated by substances such as dust, blood of birds, salt or insects which can decrease the electricity generation efficiency significantly. For this reason, many blade cleaning companies started to appear and a variety of methods for cleaning were suggested. Despite these diverse methods, there has been no study to investigate how effectively to clean the substances in quantitative manner. In this paper, the cleaning efficiency of two rotor blade cleaning methods, brush and water-jet, is examined through experiments by changing operating parameters. Then, the optimal operating conditions for both methods are derived.
A grid generation algorithm associated with turbomachinery cascade flow fields has been developed. The present grid generation system consists of four separate modules. The system input is made of the results of the preliminary design, i.e., flow-path, aerodynamic conditions along the spanwise direction, and the blade profile data. The grid generation method generates a series of two-dimensional grids in the blade-to-blade passage to build up the three-¬dimensional grid, The numerical algorithm adopts the combination of the algebraic and elliptic method to create the internal grids efficiently and quickly. The resultant grids generated from each module of the system are used as the preprocessor for the performance prediction of the turbomachinery blade using Naveir-Stokes method in addition to the blade surface modelling for CAD data. For purposes of illustration, the grid generation system is applied to several complex geometries inculding a turbine rotor with and without a tip flow grid. Application to the blade design of the LP compressor was demonstrated to be very reliable and practical in support of design activities. This customized system are coupled strongly with the design procedure and reduces the man-hours required to predict the aerodynamic performance of the turbomachinery cascades using the CFD technique.

The power electric system is one of the most concerning factor for the reliability of the electric propulsion ship. operation in higher temperature decreases the device's reliability and power efficiency. the management of power loss and temperature of switching devices is indispensable for the reliability fo the power electric system. In this paper, IGBT chip of the switching devices is modeled and MIIR(Motor with Inverter Internal to Rotor)type of the propulsion motors is used. these parts interact with each other to calculate the loss and temperature of device. calculated Results is modeled and designed of the control and monitoring system for the electric propulsion system.

Recently, small vertical axis wind turbine attracts attention because of its clean, renewable and abundant energy resources to develop. Therefore, a cross-flow type wind turbine is proposed for small wind turbine development in this study because the turbine has relatively simple structure and high possibility of applying to small wind turbine. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the turbine‘s structural configuration on the performance and internal flow characteristics of the cross-flow turbine model using CFD analysis. The results show that guide nozzle should be adopted to improve the performance of the turbine. Optimization of the nozzle shape will be key-importance for the high performance of the turbine.

This research proposes a finite element method to determine the natural vibration characteristics of the spinning disk-spindle system in a HDD including the flexibility of supporting structure. Finite element equations of each substructure are derived with the introduction of consistent variables to satisfy the geometric compatibility at the internal boundaries. The natural frequencies and modes from the global asymmetric matrix equations of motion are determined by using the implicit restarted Arnoldi iteration method. The validity of the proposed method is verified by the experimental modal testing. It also shows that the flexibility of base plate plays an important role to determine the natural frequencies of the spinning disk-spindle system in a HDD.

Generally, the structure without the stator core Axial Field Permanent Magnet (AFPM) generator was simple and there was nearly no cogging toque. And because it had the wide driving rate area, it had been being mainly used in the small wind power generation system. However, AFPM generator with non-slotted stator can't generate high voltage at low wind speed due to long air-gap. It is the reason of output efficiency drop. Therefore, in this paper, the AFPM synchronous generator with internal rotor and dual slotted stators for the small wind turbine is studied, and deal with a cogging torque minimization through the determination of optimum pole-arc ratio.
